Crow and Kitten are Friends

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

I found this video clip while looking through some old VHS tapes I had laying around. This was recorded by my mother around 1999/2000; I'm glad she had the blank tape ready to go in the recorder when the show "Miracle Pets" came on.
If anyone knows the current situation of these two friends, please post, we're all curious.
You might notice at 2:16 she dials the typical "555" number but then the scene switches to the front of the vet clinic. From the video clip, it's easy to see the phone number of the clinic on the sign in front and then google the rest:

You're welcome, you can thank my Mom! She taped it on VHS for me back around 2000 because she knew I liked birds. And then I bought this device from Best Buy called Dazzle that lets you convert VHS to DVD, .mpg format etc. I found that story on a pile of dusty tapes I had laying around and decided to try-out the device on it. Glad you enjoy, would love to know what the status is now with those two buddies.

Different communities of crows around the world have different cultures and social rules. It's quite amazing. But as for the crows in Seattle, I spent a lot of time watching them at the UW, and I can tell you that they not only watch out for their own kind, but also other birds. When a robin or some other baby bird was injured from falling out of their nest, the crows would defend it vigorously, flying circles around the tree and squawking (I believe to alert the far off parents who were probably off collecting the day's food or something.) And if you got near the fallen baby, the crows would start attacking you. I saw this many times. They never attacked or ate the fallen birds but merely fended off any other threats. They would even dive and attack racoons that were going after other bird species. But one time, I took a robin that had fallen about 20 feet from its nest. My goal was to get it to a vet for help (I later learned it would have been better to simply climb up the to the nest to return it and hope for recovery). I was on foot on the campus. I headed to the library to google for open vets (this was before smart phones). About a hundred crows chased me all the way to the library across the large campus. They yelled at me and dived on me the whole time. They waited outside the library, where I was for probably 20 minutes desperately trying to find a single open vet on a Sunday (there were none), or some kind of campus facility (there were none). They resumed their diving and cawing when I exited. The whole day, wherever I went in the city they followed me. Eventually the baby bird died. :( The crows were pissed at me and for the rest of my student years on campus, whenever they spotted me, they would dive and caw at me wherever I went. They recognized and remembered me. The crazy part is, there was this one crow who wasn't with them at the time. He was the friendliest crow and spent his time begging for food along with the squirrels, coming very very close to humans. He was probably hanging out at the spot where people do that at the time. The other crows would yell at him and chide him for approaching me for food later on, if they were in the area. I became their unwitting enemy because I messed with that poor robin.

Haha.. thanks... Sadly, I sort of killed it by giving it anxiety. :*( It would have died anyway, obviously, from starvation and predation. But it was terrified of me holding it and it's heart was racing. I read later that this would happen in general and that's why you should place them back in the nest if it's a smaller, more nervous species.

Growing up we had a kitten, puppy and a pigeon that were best friends and would follow each other around the house and play. They would even sleep together at night to keep warm. The pigeon couldn't fly because it injured her wings so she would just walk around the house and spend time with her friends.

We were on vacation on Bonaire in the Caribbean, and the house next to us had a dog that would bark a lot. One day I was outside and could hear 2 dogs barking at each other, and they wouldn't stop. I went over to look at what was goung on and there was one dog in the yard and a Parrot in the tree that would bark at the dog to get him going.

Crows and Ravens are incredible animals. Intelligent, social, and cunning, too... They're considered pests in many places and they're so smart it's not really hard to see why. I've had crows steal car parts just because they were shiny, and living in the country with chickens I've caught them stealing feed every other day it seems like. Some people shoot them and want them off their property, but I really like them. I've seen them do some interesting stuff, and given their intelligence I'm interested enough in them to let them stay..even if it costs me an extra 5 bucks a month in feed.

Wally passed in 2018 shy of his 99th birthday. Cassie passed in 2014 at age 15. In 2011 Lisa Fleming wrote "Cat and Crow: an amazing friendship" for children with photos, newspaper clippings, illustations. If you google cat and crow, Cassie and Moses quite a few articles.

The narration is pretty corny and it didn't need the re-enactment piece, but the video portion with cat and crow is just lovely, I am such a fan of crows!!! Always wished one would land on my property and stay, but they visit and then depart. I've taken to tossing them peanuts (their favorite) during my mile walk to work. They do respond to my caws. I should start leaving necklaces out, they love jewelry. It bothered me that the homeowners always referred to the crow as "he." I know they didn't know the bird's sex, or the kitten's sex for that matter, and as the kitten grew I was thinking very nervously "spay or neuter, spay or neuter!" I do think the kitten would have survived without the crow. Many many feral cats survive. It wasn't "love" and it wasn't "friendship" (anthropomorphism anyone???), but it is charming for humans to watch. Most humans love birds, and many also like cats. Fourteen years ago. Alan Thicke is so much older now. HAHAHAHA

That's incredible. I've heard of many unusual animal relationships, but this one takes the cake. And such an adorable story at that. Many of you people could learn from this duo.
