My attempt at crossing the Tararua Ranges in a day, took my camera along as the weather was perfect.
Underestimated the distance and time it would take, as I found it very difficult to run in many places.
All in all it was a great experience, only an hour’s drive from home.

Good on ya mate. Once they fix the slip, the Tararua Mountain Race goes the other direction every March. The record is 4 hours 20 ;)

Cheers! Can't believe how fast they can cover that distance, that's a decent marathon time let alone all the vertical and technical track!

Legs were spent! But for some reason I kinda want to go and do it again...
You dodged a bullet - you got caught out by the distances you have to cover, you found out the hard way and got through - some might look at this and think this is something they might like to do. It can be four seasons in one day up there and folks have been dying up there ever since they started going up. The Tararuas will find you out if your not prepared. Grand effort though.

Absolutely right, I have a profound respect for those mountains. Always carry all weather gear up there. And a PLB every time! Thanks for your comment
