Crossing Scotland West to East | 190km through The Highlands
Wanting to get away for some solitude I came up with a trail from the West Coast to The East through some of Scotland's most wild and remote landscapes. I wasn't too sure if the trail I had plotted would be passable , so I set off wit some trepidation to head through the Scottish Highlands and traverse Scotland West to East..... almost coast to coast

I remember when the old signalbox was operational before the RETB signalling took over an me and my butty Mike (we were both Train Drivers, now long retired) were invited up into the old signal box by Jimmy, the signalman, who was a real character to exchange railway banter. The 360 degree views from inside the box were absolutely spectacular... what a fabulous place to work... I also remember encoutering "Dave the Juggernaught" by the railway bridge shown in your video, who was carrying the biggest rucksack I'd ever seen before or since... it was at least 100 litres... he was completely buggered and he put his rucksack down when he spoke to us.... He had a ghetto blaster and loads of cans of food/drink in his rucksack, and everthing but the kitchen sink, it being his first, and probably last expedition to the Highlands... I almost felt sorry for him. We stayed in the SYHA, where we encoutered a large stag, complete with huge antlers loitering outside.... Tom, the Manager explained that he was very old and had lost most of his teeth, so was thus reliant on people feeding him, hence him becoming tame(ish)... We were told that he later had to be shot, as he would obviously be unable to feed himself in the winter. Tom the manager, who was in his 60's, was well known for inviting all comers to race him round the forestry track circling Loch Ossian... Memories, memories... now my knees are knackered, so no more galavanting around the highlands carrying 65lb rucksacs (as weighed on the scales at Abergavenny Station) for me...

I'm a signalman. Always daydreamed of box's like that. But even the ones I did years back. It may have been romantic looking. Bit trying to keep warm during the winter wasn't so 🤣
What an absolutely fabulous vlog. I can't believe the amount of work you have to do, in producing this, AND all the climbing and cycling. Such a beautiful part of our great country. I so look forward to your vlogs. Inspirational. Thanks so much. Beautiful. The venison burger just looked fab too!!! 😊

The fact that, once again, I've watched one of your feature length videos in one go says a lot about how engrossing and interesting they are. Superb, top quality work as usual, and what an amazing landscape. Thank you for taking us along on your cross country adventure.

The videos are always of incredible quality, nothing offensive, no unwanted personal opinions, that some may find offensive. Just the kind of video that you would allow your young children to watch, and gauge their reaction on the incredible beauty of the Scottish highlands. Video heaven,
Another sensational video Murray. You're such an inspiration 👏🏽

We saved this to watch on one of our movie nights. Better than any Hollywood blockbuster! Yet certainly as well produced! 😊🙌. The effort you put into your videos, both physically and in the edit doesn't go unnoticed by your viewers. We really enjoyed the cycling element to this cross country adventure too. Thank you so much for taking us along on this epic journey, and for providing us with a throughly enjoyable night's entertainment 😊🙌👍
The guy that did that minister - Pete Bowsher is from my town. Always find it funny seeing that so far away. What an adventure that was. Amazing 🤩
Oh my that got my bike juices flowing Murray.. I've just about got my bike legs n lungs going and ready to hit the Bikepacking trails once the earth warms... That was a lovely excursion and I thank you... 🚴♀️🚴♀️🚴♀️😎🥃

Just watched your west to east trip, we know the Rannoch, Loch Tay area. Very enjoyable viewing. We watch your videos regularly. Many thanks.
Well done, that's some weekend you had I have sore legs just watching you 😅
What an amazing trip, love the photography. If doing that route again the route from Carie on Loch Rannoch to Invervar in Glen Lyon is a very pretty route through the forest by a stream and out onto the moor, a bit easier.
A fine exped on 2 wheels Murray. 🚴😎👍 Always wondered what that section is like from the bothy to Loch Treig. Glen Almond is lovley indeed... Finally finished this on the big telly, over a few days. When the wife is working or has fallen asleep 🤭

What a joy to watch. Not only one of your beautiful long episodes but something slightly different to boot. It was superb watching you tackle that route. I'm glad there wasn't too much hike-a-bike for you. The road in Glen Lyon is ine of my favourites in the area for cycling - quiet and beautiful. So glad you enjoyed flowing down it. And the film from Glen Almond has made me think I need to go and explore it. Thanks again for creating and sharing this, it seems like a huge amount of work to entertain us.

Thanks Alasdair. The descent down Glen Lyon was delightful - especially after a full meal from the wonderful cafe at Bridge of Balgie! :) I can thoroughly recommend Glen Almond too - a wonderful and quite glen to explore for sure :) Thanks for watching ATB Murray
Brilliant video Murray have to admire your stamina as not the easiest way to travel especially the first day. Never thought you'd make it on some of the sections. Rannoch Moor Station I've been to many times and had a lovely meal at the cafe. Especially loved seeing you go through Glen Lyon as it's a wonderful area. Loch Tay and Forest are wonderful area to see but really this whole part of Scotland is my favourite. Many happy memories of wonderful times. ATB Murray.

Thanks Julie, the cycle down Glen Lyon with the sun shining and the free wheeling was very nice (especially after the tracks I had gone over in the prior 24hrs!!lol) Added to that I had a full tummy after a lovely bite to eat at Bridge of Balgie made it even more fun cycling down :) Thanks for watching ATB Murray
Super route, Murray and some stunning glens. If you did it again, would you break it down into more days to savour it more? The days looked quite testing, especially the middle one.

I camped near the old Corrour ruins on 24th February. It was deep in snow, got down to -12 and my water and Lucozade froze in the tent, but my whisky was okay, Bunnahabhainn. I climbed Carn Dearg the next day, was between knee and waist deep in snow. Fair enjoyed it though. Edit, the Corrour ruins were a former sanatorium. The building was predominately pinched for the Corrour shooting lodge. This area is my ancestral home. Thanks for the video Murray, ATB, Angus

Another brilliant adventure Murray. What a journey. I take my hat off to you for bringing these long journeys. At least you had decent weather considering what it has been like. Take care and stay safe mate. Catch you on the next one.
I enjoyed watching that. I've been looking at doing some bikepacking around Corrour and Loch Lyon so it was interesting to see what the tracks are like in those areas. I whizzed past you on my bike in Glen Almond on Sunday morning as you took a break. I was on my way to climb Beinn na Gainimh, with a much lighter load. I'm hugely impressed with the distance and ascent you did on the first two days (the height of Ben Nevis each day) carrying that enormous load!
