Cross Line Laser Comparison: Bosch, Dewalt, Stabila

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Full article here:
www.toolboxbuzz.com/measuring...
Dewalt Laser DW088 CG
The DW088CG is a comparable but less expensive than both the Bosch and the Stabila. It also has an integrated bracket and full time pulse mode which allows the line to be picked up by a line-detector.
The DW088CG Cross Line Laser emits a green beam and has a great range that projects bright crossing horizontal and vertical lines. A laser like this is ideal for various leveling and layout applications, such as, drop ceilings, cabinets, remodeling and tile work.
There is no lock for the laser pendulum, the laser line will flash when out of level or plumb. The The Dewalt DW088CG is rated for drop protection for 1 meter [3-feet] and has an IP54 Rating.
Stabila Laser LAX300 G
The Stabila LAX300 G is specifically designed for interior construction projects. Stabila uses a technology they call STABILA GREENBEAM. This technology provides for a razor-sharp, extremely bright, laser line. We tested this in our shop and agree!
The Stabila battery change compartment requires a two-handed operation. The battery compartment does not have a rubber gasket, but does have molded indicators for proper battery placement. The Stabilia laser is IP 54 rated.
Bosch GLL 100 G Laser
The Bosch GLL 100 G Green-Beam Self-Leveling Cross-Line Laser uses green-beam technology, and has a working range up to 100 Ft. The GLL 100 G produces vertical, horizontal and cross-line modes, and the tool can project two lines independently or together, for a broad array of alignment and leveling applications.
It includes Bosch-exclusive VisiMax™ technology, which allows for outstanding line visibility in standard working conditions. It constantly monitors the laser’s temperature so the diodes are always driven to maximum line visibility, while protecting the laser diodes from overheating.
The tool has a working range up to 100 Ft., and it offers an accuracy of ±1/8 In. at 33 Ft. and ±3/8 In. at 100 Ft.
We mounted on the base the Bosch laser can achieve approximately 270 degree of rotation coverage. A tripod mount allows both 1/4-20, and 5/8-11 threaded attachment.
The included BM3 Positioning Device offers quick setup in ceiling grid applications, and can also be screwed to a stud or wall and has a micro fine height adjustment. When using the BM3 positioning device [base] and attached to metal objects via magnet the Bosch is not as stable as the Dewalt and Stabila. The laser base, in free-standing mode, has retractable feet to give it additional stability.
Dewalt Laser DW088LG
The DEWALT DW088LG 12v Green Cross Line Laser is part of the 12V lithium-ion rechargeable power tool battery platform. This line laser is designed for extra-long run time and the convenience of rechargeable power tool batteries. Allowing the end user to save on battery purchases.
A mechanical slide on the front of the laser locks the pendulum, and the power switch will not operate if the lock is engaged.
Price
Dewalt DW08CG sells online for $157.00
Stabila LAX 300 G sells online for $350.00
Bosch GLL 100 G sells online for $230.00
Our Choice
If you’re already using the Dewalt platform, like me, that 12-volt is my 1stchoice. It comes in at $330 and uses a rechargeable battery. I have other 12-volt Dewalt tools which allow me the option of using my other 12-volt batteries, if needed.

I always comment on the videos you create where the effort, thoroughness and conclusions are basically unquestionable. Really appreciate such content from you guys all for free, I always watch the ads on your vids regardless of length (if long look away lol). Watching from London, UK. Would love to see a few more brands - if indeed there are any major ones in your part of the world....Makita, Milwaukee or Stanley? Thanks, Thumbs up Rob & Team.

    I changed the Bosch for the Bosch 12v laser and there’s a big difference in brightness and features , the plumb bob feature on these lasers has come in so useful its excellent ! Also the Bosch 12v connects to your phone and you can alter the brightness and other things like turning it on and off and switch between lines and if you have the RM3 remote mount you can use your phone as the remote.

    Who's already in the 12v DeWalt platform? 😉 I bought the Bosch gll2 for $30 two years ago. I also have the Bosch gll2 150 Eck I bought for $180 (new off of eBay). I have used them in laying tile, framing, septic leach line grading, fencing, cabinet installation, etc. I remodel and build new. I have also only changed the AA batteries once in both units (I turn them on, make my marks and turn them off). Battery costs are not an issue so the 12v DeWalt is definitely overkill. The thing I like the most about the Bosch is the ability to only have on the horizontal or vertical lines by themselves and to lock it while it's still on and turn it sideways just to shoot a line when laying out treads or some other design. Thanks for the comparisons of these higher cost lasers. It confirms mine do everything the bigger ones do, just maybe not as bright or far reaching.

    *Love it, try to make use of it as much as I can. I use a camera tripod to shot the laser at different elevations. I've used it to level Mosaic tiles, center garage door opener, and hang picture frames.The beam of light is bright enough for indoor use. The red laser beam can be difficult to see in well lit areas if your shooting the beam more than 20ft away, but I don't need to shoot the laser more than 20ft, so works great for my needs.*

    As a sheet metal worker the 12volt green dewalt has been the best all around laser chalk line I have used. Battery life is great, line brightness is good, accuracy is better than usually even need, and the range is great indoors. Anything beyond 75ft and I’m reaching for a rotary laser anyway.

    Can I ask for another metric?How far away from the wall does a laser need to be to display a verticall line on the celing? (Standard height)I bough a Bosh entry level cross laser and was unhappily supprised to see that the device needed to be quite far away to display the line high enough to the ceeling. In thight spaces like bathrooms, this is bad.

    In regards to the Stabila- (I just purchased it last month as a birthday gift to myself) when you tested it, and you used the feature to turn the lasers on with the pendulum locked- did they always flash with a strobe-like effect? I tried to contact them to see if this was normal but just realized they never got back to me. Standard level and plumb are rock solid after self-leveling. I was just curious since the strobe can be a bit annoying, especially if I were to want to strike a line at some particular angle like for a stair railing or such.

    HI, I'm a pro joiner, i have an old 20yrs+ Stabila 03050 Self-levelling Compact Laser, it has no bag, it's always lived in the van rattling around on it's rubber corners, it still works as new 👍 it only has a vertical line & a horizontal dot, I've had a few cross line lasers but they died quite quickly so a couple of yrs ago i bought an expensive cross line Bosch, that died about a yr ago, don't even think it reached it's two yr birthday 😕 Sick of buying rubbish I'll def be buying the Stabila, I should have done so yrs ago, My Stabila hand levels along with my laser are still going strong after all others have fallen. The Stabila 1m with die-cast frame is 30yrs old & still the one i trust.

    Good video Rob. Always excellent work from you guys! I have a video request. I noticed in this video some of the scenes show strapping on the ceiling. That’s something we don’t do here in the Midwest or in the south where I used to live. Can you guys do a video on the benefits and why you guys use this system? Also how you do it, how thick the strapping is and is it strong enough to hang drywall from, etc. Basically anything you would teach an apprentice on the subject. I hope that is something you guys can do. All the best! Ron

    I have an old Stabila red dot laser placed on a tripod. The red dot is visible outside. I have also purchased the Bosch green laser, with tripod and horizontal and vertical lines, that are visible inside BUT virtually invisible outside. I had to use a sheet of Xerox paper to barely see the green line on the target. For me, the green laser is only good inside.

    A great review on green lasers. Another option is the the Dewalt DW088LR red laser, I use it every day at work to measure out of plumb and level surfaces for shower glass and mirrors. The red laser has a finer line than the green, but I measure from the edge of the line anyway. They are very versatile tools, and much easier than lugging around spirit levels. The DW088LR comes with a 12v battery box that uses 4 AA batteries or it can use the 12v Lithium Ion rechargeable batteries. It's priced at only $177.00, because it doesn't come with the two rechargeable batteries and charger. They are fairly efficient on batteries anyway, using the laser roughly an hour a day, standard batteries last almost a year. I believe the locking pendulum is very important to ensure the accuracy long term, and wouldn't buy a model without that feature. I've been impressed with the versatility, reliability and accuracy of this tool in everyday use in the field.

    Accuracy of 1/8” in 30’ - i guess that could be acceptable for some applications, assuming you can get consistent registration off a fuzzy line and eliminate human error. But I’m so OCD I just cant get behind using a laser for everything, despite its convince. I know its awkward, but for accuracy you can’t beat an old school water line level. It’s not always just about speed.

    Sidowse : do you know the difference between a water level and a spirt level?

  • @BiggMo

    @BiggMo

    5 жыл бұрын

    Sidowse : your description of a water level is a little off. On its most basic design, its just a vented container and thin flexible clear hose of ANY length attached to the bottom edged. Purge the air from the hose, Place the container anywhere in the room (central is standard) with the surface of the water at the exact height you want to mark and ANYWHERE you walk in the room the water level in the hose will always exactly match the level in the container. You could mark a wall 50, 100, 200, 300 (wall, room whatever) feet long with with an accuracy of about 1/32”. Your only limited by your length of hose and the sharpness of your pencil.

    Obviously 12 volt is going to be the smaller battery, but it's not like the 20 volt is heavy. Based on price alone, this tool is not aimed at the homeowner market. I would assume that most folks with an interest in this tool are professional or at least higher end handymen, so they have probably already committed to a battery like DeWalt's 20 volt tools, meaning they already have multiple batteries on hand for all their cordless tools. Battery price and weight become pretty much irrelevant in that situation. I glanced at battery prices on Amazon and it seems that the difference in price for 20 volt and a roughly equivalent amp hour rated 12 volt battery is about $15, so not really a big deal anyway. I just don't want to have multiple types of batteries and chargers to worry about and replace when they die. I already upgraded to DeWalt's lithium 20 volt tools from their old 18 volt NiCad batteries several years ago. I have a lot of batteries already that are interchangeable in all my tools. I doubt that I am alone in that regard. I think most of the people who might have an interest in this particular tool are probably similar to me. Why not just make it a 20 volt tool? That's my opinion.

  • @ConcordCarpenter

    @ConcordCarpenter

    Frank B interesting! This was more of a casual test than compared to our head-2-head tests, that are very strict on test criteria’s. The judging of brightness was subjective, and two of us independently ranked the lines and compared notes. Additionally, we included a photo of what we saw/voted on - shown several times in the video. Now you have me wondering if the BOSCH sent their unit with older, not as powerful batteries. In our testing the Bosch unit indicated low battery before the others. I’m gonna get fresh batteries and test this again.

  • @frankb8616

    @frankb8616

    That was the first thing I thought as well with the Dewalt, that the batteries were low or not as charged as the Bosch batteries but we changed them and still.. also the Bosch was slightly fatter and blurry where the Dewalt looked as if it constricted and redefined itself after the level stopped moving making a tighter line to go by. I'm still happy with the purchase I just wish it matched the Bosch in brightness. you may want to run the test in moderately lit daylight.

    I don’t care for Bosch lasers. Inferior quality when compared to DeWalt and twice the price for what you get. The magnets on the back of a Bosch line laser I used was so weak i wouldn’t trust it to hold up a picture on my refrigerator. Also, green lasers definitely has greater visibility over red.
