Mike, I still have the vhs of this story and transferred it to DVD years ago. With your dad narrating that hunt is very funny. Appreciate this channel and what you're doing.

I went to the high school cafeteria in Palmer AK to see your dads film, High Wild and Free, and later, Challenging the NW Territories. He narrated them. They were both awesome. I have them on DVD that I bought in Gardiner MT. BTW, ‘first blood’ doesn’t always get the animal, first fatal shot does. You got that buck, congrats.
I can’t even tell you how the story warms my heart it reminds me of going up to the ranch with my uncles and his friends and listening to their stories! there all passed away now I’m 40 I have two little boys five and seven years old that are just getting into hunting and I hope one day they’ll enjoy listening to my stories.. that part where you said well you know how it is with family first blood gets the animal I laughed so hard that’s something my uncle would’ve said, thank you for sharing it means a lot,
I sure like this format Mike the old stories I have you Dads VHS tape of his hunt God's Blessings on all your adventures

You tell he’s slipping. Good for him for getting his story out for the family
I noticed that you respond to a lot of comments left on here, I think a lot of that. So many of the " famous" guys on here don't because they don't have "time". That says a lot about how much it all means to you personally, and you as a man. Thank you sir for this great glimpse into the past.

Will, first, I'm not famous, ask my wife. Second, I was lucky to land in a family that made they're living in the western outdoors from Alaska to Wyoming, then on to other countries like Mongolia, Africa, and China, to name a few countries. I hope you folks like my stories. I'm head-on assignment to Africa, so I will post another new one next week.
Great memory. Thanks for sharing and keep them coming.
I love Mikes impression of his old man. Guy sounds like a tough old cobb…

The gun was a 243 built for Dad by his friend Al Beason the famous rifle builder he and dad went to gunsmithing school in Colorado after the war.

Howdy Mike. Yep, that buck was a little too far for my "Go Get It" attitude. I guess I have Murphy's Law peeking over my shoulder as I know I would have fallen in that semi-frozen river somewhere in that process. Glad to see you and your Dad made it out! MERCY. Later on......

The things dad's would make us do, only if mom didn't find out you were good. Lol
Great story, but who did the filming?
@BlazedTrailsForgotten
2 жыл бұрын
Will Dad had taught my middle brother and me how to run his movie camera, a new 16mm Aeroflex. I hate having to film but like stile photographic. However, my brother was a pro movie filmer. He had the eye for filming and liked it, but not as much as cowboying.

Did your or your dad know ant Krolls. I hunted the snake river breaks with my hunting buddy, Neal Kroll. He and his dad knew everyone in that country. His dad was a big game Hunter too.
32° water wasn’t that considerably warmer than the air? Water temperature to sleep that raft
Looks like Les Turner in the raft.
@BlazedTrailsForgotten
2 жыл бұрын
It is Les. Him and Dad were great friends and Les was the first to go across the Snake River with Dad in 1965 and harvested a great looking non-typical buck.
It's crazy what these animals do to us, they sure turn us into kids.
I remember watching the original video many, many years ago, great then, great now. You should show the entire video, too much talking and not enough video.
