Cross bar removal - Toyota Sienna 2006-2010

Комедия

1.) Remove both rack attachments at the rear of the roof rack. Careful when removing the covers not to break any of the clips.
2.) Good time to clean the parts and around the area where they will be reinstalled
3.) Loosen the cross bars and slide them out the back being mindful not to scratch the roof when they come out. Standing on the bumper worked for me.
4.) Reinstalled the factory end caps. Careful not to over tighten the main bolts.
5.) Store the bars out of the way in a place you can find them when time comes to sell the vehicle.
I wasn't planning on making a video but right before I buttoned it all back up I figured it could help someone. And my new round Yakima bars make much more noise. Need to buy the windjammer now. The Yakima Skybox 21 will now have plenty of clearance when it gets thrown up there. The clamps were like a 1/4 inch from roof without gear.

You just helped this "somebody" here more than you know. I actually thought those back rail parts were held down with bolts going through the roof into the interior! I need to mount a huge 240 watt solar panel atop my roof connected to the rails but have to remove the rear crossbar first. Thanks for posting this!!

Thanks for giving the specs on that socket. I was able to go to Home Depot and pick out a T30 and it fit perfect saving me lots of time and headache. You de man!!

It’s not clear so I’m going to ask. Do use the Yakima skybox is it required to remove the stock roof rack and install a new one?

Martin Nyberg I am using Yakima round cross bars and factory rails and a skybox 21. You do NOT need to remove these stock cross bars because the Yakima round bars sit up higher at least the one I am using. I mainly wanted to clean up the look since I wouldn’t be actually using these stock cross bars anymore. If you think you might remove the aftermarket crossbars from time to time then maybe just leave the stock crossbars in there

2yrs later I reread your question. You can use a Yakima Skybox with stock bars but there is less clearance up there so the clamps will make a lot more contact with your roof during installation/removal of the box. Much more likely to dent or scratch the roof. The aftermarket bars sit higher and makes it a much easier and no contact to the roof installation. I have stock crossbars on my 2011 Rav4 that I use this same Skybox on from time to time. It works just not quite as nice. I would recommend for people to start with a cargo box like Thule or Yakima and see how well it works with stock setup. Then decide if you want to invest in aftermarket crossbars.

Thanks. These vids aren't pretty but hopefully they give an idea of what someone will be working with if they decide to slide these crossbars off the factory rails.

yea great...to bad they aren't cross bars. They're rails! "Cross bars go across the top of the roof.

I had already taken the crossbars off. I still had it taken apart so I figured I would do a quick video to help someone take their bars off. I still use the rails but with aftermarket Yakima round bars. This was simply to show what needs to be taken apart to slide the oem roof rack crossbars off.

An Mo I would imagine it would be similar to what I did on the back of these rails.
