    The reason the motor is that big is because it’s an AC synchronous motor(as used in the vast majority of decent belt drive decks), and that’s how big they are. That’s the nicest “Crossley” product I’ve seen by a very long way, and a bargain at $230. Much, much nicer than Pro-Ject’s own entry level decks such as the Primary E and Elemetal, which would be similar money where you are!

    This is a high quality turntable for a nice price. Hoping people are buying these good stuff instead of those with plastic mechanism because they last much more and are much more repairable. I have been many years in the repair business for radio and stereo. Thank you for this video.

    A quarter century ago entry-level Pro-jects came stock with half-inch-thick acrylic platter - that's on top of main aluminum platter. It had four feet, not three, and there was no handle on the tone arm - this utter luxury was only available as an aftermarket extra. The arm itself was exactly the same, plus the shims underneath to raise it above the acrylic. Oh well, the motor suspension belt finally gave up two years ago; the original main platter belt is still good and so are the bearings. Tone arm wiring is in much worse shape after all the cartridge swaps (I ended up with a Grado Green).

    Hey there Record-ology this is exactly the other turntable I have same color and it is a Debut III before the carbon tone arm came out ,I got this for under 200.00 at amazon ,I love this a little more by 1 percent more than my ATLP_120 ,I replaced the platter with a acrylic platter I was afraid when changing speeds I might mar the surface when putting platter back on,it is my first wooden turntable I always wanted one the reason the platter mat is thin cause any thicker the tonearm would not be level it would be too high I bought a good thin rubber / cork matt ,cause trying to clean record with a brush the record would slide a bit ,but I am glad you got to review this one I think it is a Great turntable it tracks very well and when you add a Q-up to this turntable it is even better ,so when the album finishes the record the Q-up will lift up tonearm so as not to damage stylus or record Thanks for another great review ,I am glad I was home to see this FANTASTIC!!!!JRo

    Nice review. The wall wart power supply still gives me reservations. I know back in the day they used to have a beefy transformer and regulators and gave a good reliable power to the motor. I know you mentioned that simpler is good without all the extra electronics, I'm just paraphrasing of course. I think you're right on that. The cartridge is great too. You do get a thumbs up from me as always. Have a great Easter by the way.

    Sweet. Really high tech and affordable from Crosley. Though I have a question, how do you change the stylus. I keep seeing these folks saying Ortofon cartridges are the way to go and that I should use one for my Denon DP-300F. Only thing is I don't know how to change the stylus on those things. This turntable does sound good and I'm sure in person it's a killer. Keep safe and thanks for the videos and keeping us entertained and informed during these crazy times. God bless.

    Thank you very much for your comment! Replacing the cartridge is usually as simple as removing it from the head shell, just pay close attention to the wiring that is always the most tricky thing about it. Your new cartridge may use the wires in a different order than your old one - the wiring is cartridge specific not turntable specific. Thank you for the kind words and God bless you too!

    It doesn't look a whole lot different from the Music Hall mmf 1.3 deck which uses the Audio Technica AT3600 cartridge which is also used on some other higher end turntables. Both are around the same price point. Be VERY careful changing the cart. Those wires are VERY delicate and are easily damaged. Be well!

    @@Recordology I replaced my OM10 on my Pro-Ject with an AT-VM95C. One of the wires actually ended up being pinched between the top of the cartridge and the bottom inside of the headshell. It was causing feedback anytime I would touch the tone-arm. I finally figured out the wire was pinched. I had to loosen the headshell and use a toothpick to coax the wire out from where it ended up. Now everything is good.

    You can easily upgrade your stock AT cartridge by getting a better stylus. You can just pop off the stylus from the cartridge body and pop in a new one. Like changing tires! Hello to Joseph Polaster I agree with you 100 percent ,when I was growing up in my day all you saw were automatic turntables there were cheap automatics and there were good ones out there my last automatic TT was the Onkyo CP1055FII fully auto ,computerized ,quartz direct drive with a two motor system I got it in 1985 in 2015 the cueing system failed ,still looking to find someone to repair I ended up buying the ATLP-120 TT I was ok with it could not find a good auttomatic it plays well but it seems after the CD's came out they seem to forget how to make a good automatic,it looks like they think we forgot how automatics were good and they are trying to convince us that manuals are better and charging a lot for them ,you think with all the advancements they made in electronics they could make a good automatic TT I also have the C-10 it is a very good TT I like better by 1 percent more than the atlp-120 I installed the Q-UP which at the end of record it will lift up tone arm at least I do tend to dose off when listening to music ,I know THORENS makes a fully automatic TT but it has the same mechanism as the cheap automatics but it is not all plastic set up but they charge over a thousand dollars for it ,my Onkyo had a seperate motor to move tonearm it worked great ,if they can put a small motor to move tonearm in 1985 why can't they do this now ,this is a subject that b others me a great deal I always thought that it was cool to push a button and watch the TT come to life,I mean I run four robotic machines at work that does what I use to do manually but are more efficient so why not an automatic TT sorry for the long rant hopefully you will stay safe and healthy JRo

    Im not convinced that crosley is doing a good job, u see take the C200 for example, identical parts to an Audio Technica 120 without a preamp, Why no preamp? because the audio technica had an issue where the life of the preamp just suddenly stops and blows a fuse inside the turntable....im convinced that if you spend 100 bucks on a direct drive technics from the 70s and 80s, its so much better

  • @Recordology

    @Recordology

    OK there’s a lot to discuss here. C-200 and the LP 120 are in fact both made by Hanpin turntables in China. However they are actually quite different and don’t share any external parts except for possibly the platter. The C-200 does have a built-in preamp which works well and can be bypassed. I spent quite a bit of time with audio Technica at CES this year and we talked about the old LP 120 line and the issues with the built-in preamp which caused some people to take it out. The new LP 120 X line of turntables resolves this issue completely along with other issues such as motor rumble.

    The big problem about the 120 was that its preamp had an integrated lowpass filter that couldn't be switched off even if one chose to use an external preamp and influenced the sound by muffling the highs.

    @@Recordology It was probably discontinued in the long run because nobody is going to pay $500 for a Crosley product. Sorry, that's just the way it appears. The fact is that, yes while there are a specific amount of people out there that do like Crosley product, there is most definitely a tremendous amount of people out there that do not like Crosley product for many obvious reasons. I believe I said in one of my comments a little while back that Crosley is entry level, low grade in general, nostalgic looking and they have products that look like toys and sound like toys. I live in Lower Central Pennsylvania and I have traveled to New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, and Virginia just to travel around and get out of the area and see what other stores have and so forth because I'm obviously an avid vinyl record collector and I am an audiophile purest not a audiophile maniac. There's a huge difference between the two. Yes I have an audio component system that when combined together we're looking at $20,000 up but that's nothing compared to what these audiophile maniacs do. I went to a store I had never visited a few months ago and they had a pair of speakers on display with a price tag of $65,000!!... Are you sitting down? $65,000?? Just for one pair of speakers. They were Focal speakers. And the point I'm trying to make is that Crosley and their reputation is Suitcase record players and just simply nostalgic looking things that are low and affordable. They make record players not turntables and those two things are drastically different. Record players Crosley and Studebaker and such make are simply designed to just play a record that's that. I turntable on the other hand is a separate component that is designed to bring quality and accurate sound from a record. People look at Crosley and see these toy like suitcase record players and while they might appeal to those with low budgets and they are only interested in just playing a record just to hear it in general, that's perfectly fine but that's what Crosley is. Crosley is not a good turntable manufacturer. Crosley cannot compete with other brands of turntable manufacturers and when people see that a company like Crosley is trying to compete with companies that are manufacturing more higher-quality turntables, and I don't necessarily mean turntables that cost over $1,000, I'm talking about Music Hall turntables or Pro-ject turntables or even Rega make higher quality performance turntables at rather modest prices that will not break people's banks. I believe that Crosley's reputation is entry-level, low end low-cost product that look like suitcases and such and they need to keep that their expertise.

  • @tobymummert3035

    @@Recordology I have been to a lot of record stores in a lot of different states and even the owners of these record stores that sell Crosley product balk at the idea and they do not sell that many in the long run. Crosley needs to stick to suitcase toy record players because that's their expertise and they shouldn't try to venture into making more respectable turntables which is a separate component from just a record player and that's why people didn't buy the C20 and probably wind up not buying the C10 in the long run and the C10 will probably be discontinued as well because Crosley is not a turntable manufacturer they are a nostalgic suitcase record player manufacturer.
