I'm a big fan of Clover hooks and needles. FYI, the Clover crochet hooks do come in sizes 3.5 (E), 3.75 (F), and 4.0 (G) - Head over to Amazon, at the time of this entry all three sizes E-G are less than $6 each. p.s. Diggin' your channel.

Really you can use anything you like. I had a chunky yarn at first that I was going to use (I think I mentioned this in the yarn description) but liked the tinsel in the one I ultimately used. If you use the thicker wool , then you won’t need to use 2 strands. I’m thinking about making another with a thicker velour yarn.

Right, you’ll increase to 18 and then do 2 more rows of 18. So 3 rows of 18 total. Then you’ll increase to 24 and follow that with 2 more rows of 24 . increase row + 2 rows = 3 rows with same number 🖤

Once you’ve done the 9sc increase row you should have 66 stitches . For the start of your brim, work one round of sc into those 66 stitches but in the FRONT LOOP ONLY (this will give you a ridge to help start your brim) Next, continue with an increase row increase of 6 like you've been doing for the rest of the hat (72) The,n for the next round do 72 sc. Next, another increase row adding 6 more (78) . Then a final round of 78 sc . If you want to make the brim even bigger just do another inc row taking your 78 to 84 and add a sc row of 84 if you like. Totally up to you. You’re just doing what you’ve been doing the entire hat. The only difference Is working into the front loop only to start your brim. xx

Hi Ashley 🤗 To go from 18 to 24 , you want to put one single crochet into the next two stitches and then in the 3rd stitch you will put 2 single crochets . Single crochet, single crochet , 2 single crochets . And repeat that all the way around. If you are meaning you were trying to go from 12 to 18 , then you want to do one single crochet in the first stitch and then put 2 in the second stitch all the way around. After 9sc, inc repeat (66) I assume you keep increasing until it's the right size, so the next step would be 10sc, inc repeat (72) 2 rounds of 72 sc 11sc, inc repeat (78) 2 rounds of 78 sc 12sc, inc repeat (84) 2 rounds of 84 sc 13sc, inc repeat (90) 2 rounds of 90 sc Just stop at whatever size seems right for you, then add the brim.

I would recommend a fabric stiffener . You can brush a little bit of liquid starch on there or use spray starch. Go slowly with the starches because they can add a little film to the yarn which shows up more on black. You can also stiffen it with a diy mixture of equal parts water and glue and brush that onto the brim. Place your hat onto a surface where you can sit it upright and pin the brim into the shape you want … then use one of these methods and set to dry for a few hours 👍🏻💕

How many times did you have to increase for it to fit?

It depends on your personal head measurements, yarn, hook size . Just keep increasing until you reach your personal head circumference. I explain this in the measurement and yarn section (time stamps in description box)

For mine I had to keep increasing until I reached 48 stitches to fit my head. (6sc + 1 inc all the way around)

Ciarra Gibson ahh okay yes - it’s going to take you more rounds - I used a 9 mm hook and 2 strands of yarn to help it go faster. I just kept trying it on round after round until it fit above my eyebrows. Good luck and if you have anymore questions don’t hesitate to ask . Xx

Hello, is there a way to do this with double crochets? I tried but it came out too thin and tall I'm not sure how to change the pattern for a dc

There’s not a whole lot you can do to change that because double crochets are extending the length of your piece by double so you would have to start with a different stitch count to begin. Maybe half double crochets would work better if you don’t want to do singles. . Or you could do some rounds with half doubles and then move to doubles to help manage the length/circumference ratio. 💕

Do you have your yarn doubled up in here? if so, how did you do that?

Yes the yarn brand I used for this makes it very easy to pull a strand from the center as well as from the outside of the ball. (Red heart was the brand) Otherwise I would just work with 2 balls at the same time if it was too hard to find the tail of yarn in the center.
