Crochet Steering Wheel Cover

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I share how to make a boho crochet steering wheel cover.
The video is broken down into two parts. First, all the info regarding how to measure and plan your cover and then second, the step by step pattern for this particular cover.
Here are the key points mentioned in the video on how to measure for your wheel whether you are working with this pattern or your own.
*Once you have measured your wheel circumference, you want to make the actual crochet cover at least 5 -6 inches shorter in length to ensure you get a tight stretch fit on your steering wheel.
For example, my wheel is 46" around and my cover is 40" around.
* I made my squares 4x4" and I used 9 squares to reach 40".
4x4 worked for me because I did not want my square to completely wrap around the wheel. I wanted to still be able to easily grip my wheel to maintain safety.
* SAFETY FIRST-- After you have ensured that the cover fits tightly along your wheel and does NOT shift from side to side, then you can tie your cover to your wheel in about 8 different spots around your wheel. This again stops any movement of your cover. These can easily be snipped off later if you want to remove your cover to be washed. Just reattach with new pieces of yarn.

    Cute, I just suggested this as a Mother's Day project on another crochet channel (and my idea was shot down). Thank you for validating my idea. Your wheel cover is very feminine (but could be made otherwise also) and sweet. Yes, kinda a boho feel. Very nice. I shall be making one (or ten). Lol 👍💓 Gonna get this made up before heat of summer (Texas heat!).

    I made it with scrap all pastels. It's georgeous.. I only fastened to wheel in 3 places. And if I want to grab under the material. I can do both because I just brush the fabric aside and grab the uncovered wheel. I put in top center of wheel. Then opposite at bottom and then another spot. I tacked it to wheel. It's wonderful

    This is clever and really cute.❤❤❤ If you're worried about the cover slip-sliding around, maybe you could cut a narrow strip of the no-slip grip rubbery fabric like material that comes on a roll and tape it to your steering wheel with 2-sided tape. I don't know the name of it but I call it slipper-gripper. LOL! You can usually find it in rolls and people sometimes line kitchen drawers with it but I've found a multitude of purposes for it. Thanks for the inspiration and for sharing this tutorial! ❤👍🙂

    If you have a long enough tail(slack yarn) before you begin your first chain.., you can sew that inside of your first double crochet(second row) as well as every crochet till the tail is almost gone. Leave some of that bringing tail to pull through and tighten as you'd tighten a Magic Circle. Both are easy peasy

  • @PlayHookywithMe

    You can attach the elastic to inside of belt with needle and thread , yes great idea. Take your strip of elastic and wrap it around your wheel … make it stretch to reach around. Cut it and sew that to the inside of your belt. Or you can sew your crochet belt to an elastic car wheel cover that is already made.
