Crochet Foldable Fruit Market Bag Tutorial
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Today, I have for you a very convenient project! This crocheted market bag can neatly fold into itself for whenever you don't need it. Full disclosure, this is not my original idea! The foldable market bag has been around for a long time, but I've recently been seeing fruit-themed pouches for it! I thought it was really cute, so maybe you will too! I hope you enjoy!
Materials:
Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in "Cafe Latte" and "Black"
Red Heart Super Saver Ombre Yarn in "Green Apple"
- Weight: Medium (4)
- Fiber: 100% Acrylic
- Approximate total weight: 2.33 oz / 66g
5.5 mm Clover Amour Crochet Hook: amzn.to/3noE9mz
Yarn Needle: amzn.to/3CuwV8A
Scissors: amzn.to/43G61Xb
Dimensions:
Base - 13cm diameter
Netting - 16cm wide x 22cm tall
Strap - 22cm long
Gauge:
12 sc - 15 rows = 4 in / 10 cm (according to label)
Project Level:
This is a fun project for all crocheting skill levels! I also teach it without a magic ring, which I've noticed is sometimes really difficult for beginners!
Stitches:
Slip Knot (sk)
Chain (ch)
Slip Stitch (sl st)
Double Crochet (dc)
Single crochet (sc)
Tips:
- Tighten your slip stitches to make the seam smaller and less visible
- The chain 2 or 1 at the beginning of each round does NOT count as a double or single crochet
- Weave your loose ends in before you sew on the pocket or it'll be harder
Send me a picture of your finished market bag on Instagram @viv.crochets! I’d love to see it!
Thanks for watching!

Hi everyone! I forgot to include that you can skip 2 stitches instead of 3 for the first round of the netting if you want a bigger bag! And if you want an even bigger bag, you can skip 1 stitch! If you want to see the size differences, I will make a post on my instagram @viv.crochets within the next few days!

I made this and also duplicated it for a watermelon using bright green netting and then swapping the green kiwi bit for red watermelon, one round of white then the bright green again! Love it
Thanks for the tutorial! For someone who just started crochet less than a month, I managed to make this bag in 2 days. I don’t have a lot of colors, so I made a green apple bag instead. Your instructions are very clear, thanks so much!!
*rubs hands together while cackling with evil glee* my crochet club is gonna LOVE this (i don't have a crochet club) _yet_

Great tutorial and a fun project to make. I made mine in a solid colour because I was just looking to use up some yarn. Some things to note. 1) I had zero problem following the pattern except for the placement of the handles. I may have miss understood something, but my handles didn't line up properly the first time. I just did it by feel the second time and it came out right. 2) As a fun extra, I added a small loop and a thin handle on either side of the pocket opening for closing and carrying it. Now it can serve as a smaller bag when folded.
This is so cuteee!! I'm a total beginner but I want to try this so badly!! This is gonna be my fourth ever project haha

And did you do it? How did it turn out?! I’m also doing one
This was one of the best & easiest to follow crochet tutorials I’ve ever watched. Thank you so much! 🧡
your voice is so calming I started falling asleep while watching. I like how you explain switching colors, I know it's simple but other videos just confuse me too much, your explanation is perfect
this was so quick and fun to make, thank you for the tutorial! can't wait to gift some to my friends
I'm definitely gonna make a couple of these!! So environmental-friendly in comparison to the plastic bags you get in grocery stores for your fruit
This tutorial is so great to follow! Thank you so much! I just finished my back and I'm so happyyy😊😊😊
I loved making the bag.. the instructions were clear and it came out sooooo good..Thank you 🤩🌹🌹
😍 i'm going to make these for everyone i know! sooo cute! thank you for the tutorial!!!🫶
Thank you so much for this. One more pending project done! And so easy to follow. Not a beginner, but had fun making it. I will def. make more.
Thank you so much for this!! ❤️ I can’t wait to make it for my family as gifts! 😋

Love this project, Vivi!😍😍 I have now a cute foldable market bag 🥰
omg this is such a cute gift idea!
I did it! Thank you so much, i’ll be making a ton of these ! 🩷🩷🩷
Thank you for this great tutorial! Instead of a kiwi, I customized the pattern to make an apple. I also added an extra small strap so that I can hang it off the side of my bag. I love how easy it is to customize 😊
This is such a great idea! Thanks for sharing!
Omg so cute!! Ima going to try this next!
This is so adorable!!! Thank you
I made with acrylic yarn, followed the pattern and while it’s such a cute bag, it does stretch tremendously. Wish I used cotton yarn and did fewer rounds of netting.
That's so cute. Thanks for sharing. I love it. 🥝

Hi can you tell me what ply you used for this bag thankyou. Its lovely
If I make this with regular yarn instead of cotton yarn will it stretch much with the yarn your using?
Thank you for this tutorial! I cannot wait to make it for my mother-in-law! If I was going to make this bag in the medium size using 24/7 cotton yarn, which hook size would you recommend using to keep the sizing the same/similar? TiA!
@VivCrochets
Жыл бұрын
24/7 cotton is slightly smaller, so you could go up maybe 1-1.5mm in hook size on the label to get a similar size! Or you can do an extra round for the base!
Hi! I’m trying to make this and is it ok if you just skip the loose ends off without weaving it?
Do you think you could maybe do a strawberry version or a peach version of this? LOVE your tutorial btw, thank you so much, too cute!

I COMPLETELY AGREE! A strawberry and a peach would be so cute. I think the strawberry would be my favourite, because I just love how strawberries look.
I lovee this! How long did it take you to make it? Thanks in advance 😊

Are you useding cotton wool or nomal wool please
I am doing the kiwi part and came across a doubt in round 3 I think because I can't seem understand the order no chance colors in what stiches or when to increase and with which color. Maybe if you can tell me the order it would really help me!! If you can please help.
What could I do if I wanted to make the fruit an avocado how could I add to the circle pattern? (Or pineapple)
Love this made a pumkin ❤lol
!! Im confident that i can do it 😩🤣.

I’m stuck on the straps. I’m confused ab the 30 double crochets into the strap space compared to 1 double crochet into each strap space, does that mean 30 dc I go each chain space(30ti e for 30 strap spaces)?
@VivCrochets
11 ай бұрын
Sorry for the confusion! So the strap I made is 30 chains long and you would work 30 double crochets along that chain. You can either do 1 double crochet into each stitch or just work 30 into the space under the 30 chains. I would recommend just doing the first way since the stitches won’t move around!
What is the yardage of the project for each of the yarns used?
Do you guys think this could be achievable without holes? I'm from the UK and we don't really use fruit bags basically at all due to the lack of fruit markets
@emilyemerson9257

You can make a bag without holes, but I don't think you would be able to fold it up easily.
May u crochet sweater of tzuyu from twice at her “the feels” era?
Hii, I am making the kiwi foldable bag and I want it to be bigger than the one on the youtube tutorial but since I'm a beginner i am having trouble understanding what are the changes I need to make. After round 5 what pattern I need to make to increase more the size? And if it affects the rest of the making of the bag what I need to change in the rest of the pattern? Sorry of I can't explain my doubt very good but english is not my first language. I would really apreciate if you could help because I am stuck in Rnd5 of the pattern because of this and I am really excited to do this project. If you can, please help!
@VivCrochets

Hi! The kiwi part is the same, you just change the first round of the netting. If you skip 2 stitches instead of 3, you’ll have a medium sized bag. And if you skip 1 instead, you’ll have a large bag! And for the handle of the medium bag, skip 4 spaces under your chain. And skip 5 for the large bag

Can make another fruits shape like orange or strawberry or lemon?
@loudestcloud
11 ай бұрын
You could make other fruits by not changing color at all the whole time then just adding a leaf. A strawberry would require a different pattern but depending on your skill level you could easily change the shape
I thought this was super cute and I’m in the process of making it. For some reason my beginning hole won’t close all the way when I pull the center string and I have quite a bit more gap-age. This isn’t my first project but any tips?😅

You can try one less chain! Or a magic circle, if you’ve done one before
@willowyong4127

@@VivCrochets thank you so much for your reply! Did you use a magic circle in the video as well?
@VivCrochets

No, I used an alternative: chain 5 and slip stitch to form a loop! You can try chain 4 or 3 to make the loop smaller
This is such a cute bag!! ❤️💕 I’m having problems with the space in between the straps. Can someone help me out? I have 15 of the netting holes. My question is in between the two double crochets of the strap. I thought she said skip three at the beginning but then on the second one she said skip two. Can someone please tell me what I’m doing wrong. Thank you in advance.
@VivCrochets
11 ай бұрын
Hi! Since there are an odd number of holes, we skip 3 spaces then 0.5, 2, 0.5 (to add up to 3) on the other side. It’s so the spaces under the straps are spaced evenly along the top

When I pulled on the tail to close the loop, nothing happened :(( what did I do wrong? I thought I followed the video exactly
@VivCrochets

I’m not sure, but if you use a yarn needle and run the tail under the stitches around the hole, you should be able to pull it to close it! If that doesn’t work, try chaining 4 or 3 in the beginning instead of 5, so the hole will be smaller
