FAQs??
-How many squares do I need for a baby blanket?
This can vary, it really can be however big or small you like, but i generally do 4x4 or 5x5.
This blog post might be useful: bit.ly/1UIobie
-How many chains shall I do for a *single/double/etc' blanket?
Again, this can vary. I would suggest that you do your chain and lay it down agains the bed you are wanting it for. It should be the same width. You should then ad a few more to make it a little wider.
This blog post might be useful: bit.ly/1UIobie
-How much yarn do I need?
Unfortunately, I will not be able to answer individuals questions about how much yarn you would used do to multiple factors affecting it. Such as, your tension, the size of hook and the yarn being used.
-What equipment do you use?

I love your channel! You go slowly and you speak clearly. I love that you go down a row, tell us to stop the video and finish that row before we start the video again to the next part. Any other video I've watched I had to stop and start on my own which meant reverse/forward several times. You are my only tutorial from now on!!

Hi Bella, Thanks to yours and other tutorials I am creating an amazing bedspread for my little nieces birthday. It is coming along greatly (after having worked on it for over a year) and I am nearing the end.... (she said positively hahaha).. Anyways.. I was searching for a video tutorial on how to make HALF a flower hexagon and I discovered that there are very few of them on youtube. 1 person uses a different method of making the flower than I am and the other person's video is of poor quality near the end.. There are a few in other languages.. but your tutorials are always very clear and very good to follow.. Could you please make a tutorial for half an African flower?

I love your video tutorials - it's how I finally learned to crochet. It would be really helpful if there was a written pattern to print off that accompanies the video though as it would act as a reminder until you really get into the rhythm of it. I notice you do things slightly different to other African Flower patterns. i.e. you put 2 chain sts in between the 2 trebles in round 2 and others show 1 chain. And on round 3 you use a slip stitch to connect the 7 trebles and others dont. I'm fascinated by this as I tried both patterns and they look very similar to my inexperienced eye.

Good tutorial. I've found a sweet little mouse tutorial made of african flower motif. However it is in a foreign language with no subtitles so I'm lost. He made 3 different sizes of the same type but didn't show how to make the largest. As a newbie crocheter I need directions. Could you do a tutorial on how to make the same pattern in different finished sizes? Sure would be great!

I’ve been crocheting for 4 days thanks to your absolute beginner series. Those videos are nice and easy to follow with clear instructions and visuals. I figure I’d hop into making these as I know all the stitches needed but it is much harder to follow as an absolute beginner while it doesn’t need to be. One spot for example in when making round 2 you say “into every chain space of the last row” but there is no explanation or visual of what a chain space looks like vs a space where you should not put trebbles into. As a result I thought I needed to put them between every trebble of the last row and it looked ridiculous, haha! I frogged and am now trying to figure out what to do and where to put the trebbles but it isn’t very clear to see in the video. This pattern is great though, maybe it is a good candidate for an update? Would love to see half and square african flowers as well!

  • @bellacococrochet

Thank you, I’m glad you like the pattern 😊 An African Flower is quite a tricky one to attempt for an absolute beginner so well done - a good tip to help you identify the chain spaces is to use stitch markers to loop through them as you make them. Then, on the next round, you can easily see where the chain spaces are. I do have a tutorial on how to turn your flowers into a square here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/e6Bq0dCiYpqXdMY.html 😊

  • @bellacococrochet

That comes down to personal preference; there's no need to make a half flower as long as you are happy with the finished look, but some people prefer to make them to square the blanket off 😊

It's hard to say for certain exactly as there are a few reasons why this might be happening. It could be down to tension, so going up a hook size may help. Or it could be down to the yarn you are using - cotton, for example, tends to lay flatter than acrylic yarn. But in most cases you'll find that once you've joined the flowers together they lay nice and flat anyway 🙂

Who is responsible for the subtitles? I had to put this video to 0.25 speed (I am a very new beginner, and wanted to attempt this, but obviously need it very slow as I know none of the basics). The sound does not work this slow so put on subtitles. At 2 mins I realised whoever subtitled this was either having a laugh, or didn't speak english at all. I had been slowly working through this video following your actions and reading for extra information. I was horrified at all the technical wordings!! Then it clicked. Bombs, sex, travel posts, safes and travel creches really probably shouldn't be in there....
