Yes, some matches were opened without fireworks, e.g. Brazil vs Korea and some others. On some TV channel it was told that it was done to keep grass on stadiums. See opening of another match with Japan: kzread.info/dash/bejne/e5eDrNmtfpC7pJs.html

@@dvedv but the thing is there was no such thing as high temperature during the world cup, since we were on winter, and temps were 20 degrees average

@@the_senor I mean high temperature because of fireworks over the grass. Really I don't know is it true, such explanation was on some TV channel. I coulnd't find any official explanation of this.
