@@QwertyDFTBA by freeing his airways. When you fall unconscious, every muscles except the heart and diaphragm stops, including the tongue. That's why you normally put unconscious people on the side, it also help with vomit/saliva/blood so they don't suffocate/drown. By moving his tongue, it allows him to breathe.
