Critically Despised Movies That Are Actually Great

Ойын-сауық

Time can change perceptions and the way a piece of art is viewed. After all, many people dismissed or ignored Vincent Van Gogh, with some concluding that his paintings were the product of an unstable loner. Now his artwork is considered stunningly beautiful.
The same can be said for movies. There are movies that get critically panned at the time of their release, but over time people’s tastes change. Movies that were once thought to be horribly bad can now even be considered ahead of their time. In that spirit, here are critically despised movies that are actually great.

It was one of the best movies of the decade, so was The Last Boy Scout.

    Your last sentence gives away your age. Stewart character is a better person/human being/woman than Theron's character. Looks are for the young, substance is for men who want a soul mate for the rest of their lives. People were taken in by her grace and passion for life. Theron's character was just a hot, evil bitch, whom only a fool would mess with.

While understanding someones needs and feeling are important for social competence, agreeing with everyone's opinion is not.... also Kristen Stewart is a terrible actress, it's our opinion, and it doesn't make us socially incompetent.... maybe get off your high horse a little, and actually do your reading in college?

  • @The2tlc

    @The2tlc

    6 жыл бұрын

    My point was more I judge for myself if a movie was good or not. I don't take the word of someone that it is or not. If we all liked the same things, we wouldn't have the variety we have. What a critic might think is good, might not be what I think is good. Some critics pick apart a movie because it's not realistic enough, or not every mystery was spoon fed to the audience, or the movie concepts can be applied in a multitude of ways and every way can be right and they want a more narrower mindset to explain things because they don't want to think that much, or made so you didn't have to think and you could just enjoy it as the entertainment was meant to be. There are some movies I agree with critics on not liking it because I was expecting a book adaptation movies to be like the books and they rarely are. Some movies can be better than the books, but most fall short and lose what made the books good with the changes they make while making the movie. I don't like the cloverfield (found footage style) or Blaire Witch, 1st person point of view filming, overly shaky camera, or a fight scene cut to death its like the actors could only do 1 punch or kick at a time and had to stop because they are that horrible. So any movie that is shot like that I know I will hate, no matter what the critics say and don't watch it. I like horror movies that don't always show you the scary monster, so you can allow your imagination to fill the void of what might have happened and see at the end if I guessed right. I like characters that have a character arc and bad guys that give the illusion they might win and not stand there for 5 minutes explaining what their going to do only to be stopped before doing it because they spent all the time talking the good guy could win because he knew the plan. I really hate it when the movie says there is a time crunch on what the characters must do, than they stand there and have a pointless discussion about something instead of just going to do what they need to do. I like my good guy characters to be flawed and fallible, struggle to grasp and get a handle on what they need to do, but over come that to be the good guy and save the day. Heck, even some bad guys I wish would win simply because they were the better character and had a more developed reason for why they were doing what they were doing then their underdeveloped counterpart.

It was such a shame KStew dragged the whole movie down.

    Both sequels have great things like the whole Zeus-Hades-Ares situation, Perseus being a dad or the relationship between Ravenna and Freya in The Huntsman, but it's the missing things that made those movies, at least for me, a disappointment, for example the replacement of Queen Andromeda's actress in Warth of the Titans or the death of Io, and the absence of Snow White in The Hunstman and the needless love story between Eric and Sara. They blew their chances of making great sequels.

    I have two issues with Clash of the Titans. First if they had just adapted the original movie, by keeping the story line and updating the fx the movie could have been amazing. Most of which they could have done with good make up artists and creature makers to limit the cost of CGI. Two, Sam Worthington is just a horrible actor. I'm not sure why people like him, but I assume his lack of appearances in movies these days means I'm not the only one.

    Should have mentioned The Cell. Really great movie...inspired by 1984’s Dreamscape with Dennis Quaid....also a great movie!

    Yes Sir! Apparently Meryl knows what I being an actual foreigner from the cold lands of Scandinavia is supposed to think, I think I'll watch Dortmund play Bayern in a classic derby and continue to ignore her and her cohorts.

    I think you misunderstand my comment, but it's okay you lack reading comprehension. Word to the wise, though, when you are, in fact, a dipshit, it's a good idea not to blast it out there for everyone to see. Think before you speak, little boy

    I absolutely agree. Snow White and the Huntsman might have been a great take on the classic story if they'd used anyone but her. Every damn scene seems like she's imitating a deer caught in headlights or a dog listening to a high pitched noise.

    Anaconda is a favourite of mine. The make shift tracheotomy & jaw pop will stay with me forever haha. Also The Cell is one of my all time favourites. That movie is brilliant. Why no mention? The thumbnail was the only reason I watched this. Why can't you use a still from a film you actually listed?

    Where did this critic/rotten tomato hysteria come from? I read a "professional" review on rotten tomato that went as follows... "Shame on you Bruce Willis." Yup, professional critic critique. I guess it's because I'm not a simple fellow, but I make my own decisions.
