I'm not surprised at all because, as you already stated, Candela is niche in an already niche form of media.

Every single piece of news seems to include Critical Role doing bad. Is there really this much demand to hear about a franchise being unable to maintain a wave of popularity? So confused why there is so many updates. It feels slightly predatory to constantly report every time a company does worse and worse.

Truly annoying. It’s the build ‘em up tear em down cycle. They’ve been popular for awhile so now everyone is piling on the negativity. I go out of my way not to engage with the general fandom, but it seems everyone is jumping on the bandwagon to discuss how they are constantly failing because they get views.

We report the news in a relatively small industry where they are one of the biggest names. We get the same critiques about D&D a lot of the time too, and the answer is simply the story is what the story is, those are the names often making the news in this industry, and we try and report as much as we can and stay as unbiased as we can. If the news is good or bad isn't something we can really take into consideration, as we just have to let the news be the news whatever it is, if that makes sense!

Pathfinder now has 27 classes. That's pretty cool.

The variety is nice, although Pathfinder Remaster has trimmed that back down to 12 (or 16 if you count the 4 classes playtested in the last few months)

@@TheCharacterSheetyes and no, technically remastered classes that are currently out are all eight player core classes and the kineticist. 10 more will come out this year however

Sad to see Candela Obscura not take off like it probably should have. The erratic schedule and the unfamiliar cast probably didn't help. Which is a shame, because the makeup, costumes, and set work are the best in the actual play world, in my book.

Yeah, Candela itself was very polished, it just may have a had a few too many things (different audience, longer episodes, and spaced out schedule) to click with a lot of the Critters.

With everything that was going against it, I think it got off to a great start, but the final nail in the coffin (in my opinion) was just that fact once the game fully released a lot of people realized that it was simply not a great system. As someone who was following and playing the game since the quickstart first came out, I was severely disappointed with the final product, and a lot of folks have felt the same way.

@@sandman6088 I have to agree. While I enjoy watching Critical Role play Candela, I have no real desire to play it myself over, say CoC in the horror space. I love the setting, but the game system itself isn't, to me, a useful tool.

Love CR and watch it every Thursday, I love the cast and want them to succeed, but watch these people play eldritch horror, nope.

I'm all for Critical role but agree candela obscura...not my thing. I'm more excited about 4th season...though that's probably not till next year. Second series is my favorite and would have loved them to continue till lv 20 but oh well. Third season took awhile to get rolling, and I can no longer manage to watch a whole show in one sitting. The new split the cast is very frustrating 😤

Used to be I would sit down and watch the full VOD on Friday, then eagerly await the next episode; now though - I tend to have it on as background noise while I'm doing other stuff. Campaign 3 just never seemed to grab me like 1 and 2 did (they felt like a found family - BH feels like a bunch of gremlins all trying to drive the same car at the same time.) I gave Candela a shot - alright in some ways, kinda bad in others, didn't watch beyond season 1.

That is fair. Honestly, the Eldritch Horror community and the fantasy roleplaying community have some overlap, but they are also distinctly their own flavor of TTRPGs, and as such even amazing Eldritch Horror may simply not be what a fantasy RPG fan is looking for!

I want to try this playtest!
