Check out World Anvil here! worldanvil.com/?c=D4 Use the promo code d4 at checkout to save 51%! Also! I guess you could call this Errata: Technically, yes, you could get a higher crit chance by going Champion Fighter to level 15, where, with Elven Accuracy, you'd be at almost 39% chance to crit. But yeah, then you'd be a Champion Fighter 15, unfortunately ;). I should have qualified my statement about 27% being the "best" by saying "the best by early/mid game" or "the best without gimping yourself with too many Fighter levels" or something :). Also! Lucky would, yes, increase your crit chance even further! (As many have mentioned) Don't know why I so often forget about Lucky. Maybe because it's banned at so many tables...

Its a minor correction, but you are the second person I've heard say it recently, rogues do get thieves' tools proficiency when multiclassing, so thats not something you lose out on by not starting with it.

@DnDDeepDive you just say "more proficiencies", so the way its phrased kinda makes it sound like thieves tools and expertise are something lost in multiclassing. I probably misunderstood because I had the other video in the back of my mind

Can you please give any more information regarding your vision for this character. Deceptive monk brandishing only a polished staff ? Maybe an urban dwelling hermit wizard who befriends rats and walk with a cane? A Druid/barbarian who refuses to use metal and is on a coming of age quest , tasked by their village/tribe to make a name for them selves and provided with only the bare minimum of supplies , rags for clothes and a staff
Love the idea that your orderly and disciplined mostly martial character one day explodes with chaotic wild magic. It's like you were too high strung in a single direction that the universe decided you needed a balancing force.
"Welcome home. This is where you belong; and I am so glad you're here." Vaguely reminds me of the intro to Mrs Roger's Neighborhood. I love hearing it. Great tones.
"Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. I learned some magic, prepare to die." - I just couldn't resist 😁 Also X-MEN 97 hits really hard in the feelings... I love it.

Going to need to grab the knife of the undermountain king for this one.
After watching the short yesterday, my friend and I debated the many different ways this could go. In none of our predictions did Colby *not* take Hexblade. I'm impressed and interested to try this build out. Thanks!

I really really like the fact that this build it more consistent. Most of the time I watch your videos I'm thinking: yeah this is unrealistic anyways so I will never build this character. I would love to see more builds like this one. Great job!
My favorite elven accuracy build that I have gotten to play so far is a Mercer gunslinger with the trick shot that enables advantage. Unloading holy hell as a ticked off Southern Belle with a rifle was unreasonable amounts of fun

Yes! This is the kinda build I like, you always have options of things to do in a fight, great damage, decent support, and tons of skills and versatility to match!
Like the bun! I recently found out that Hexblade's Curse works with all damage rolls. "You gain a bonus to damage rolls against the cursed target." Which means that spells like spike growth would gain loads more damage if you build for it. You could argue that it only works if you cause the damage. Well, what if you're the one who cast the spell and you're the one moving them around? I'd say that's you causing the damage.
The man bun is great Colby. Suits you man.

Awesome build. Love the energy and passion.
This might be one of my new favorites! Well done!
I love the man bun. Never change buddy!
Woo! loveeeeeeee the previous crit fisher build, super excited to see this new one!! :)))
The new Squire of Solamnia feat, given as part of the Knight of Solamnia background, gives advantage pbxpd, +1d8 damage, and is only expended IF you hit. With this, I probably would go hexblade 5 first, maybe only pally 2. Edit: that last bit was silly to say. It would be a different build without vengeance, I just had a slight mod in mind while listening (similar to your one hit wonder) and it came out in that comment without thinking about it. Tldr; squire of solamnia would be a nice addition lol
I love love love this build so much. My take on it that I commented on a previous vid was a dual wielding vengeance 6, champion 3, and AT 5 with a focus on capping out rogue levels as my progression (I went arcane trickster because I wanted to cap out my charisma on rogue 10 and didn't really have room for sorcerer as a result. I may have overvalued evasion and also hadn't played a paladin before and wasn't sure how to manage smite slots vs round over round dpr so the increased sneak attack damage was perhaps overvalued in my eyes.) In hindsight, this build could have benefitted from oathbreaker 7 over vengeance for more reliable dpr despite feeling worse for crit fishing at lower levels while still reaching all the potential breakpoints at 20. Also the shadow blade tech would have felt reeeeeally good on this character because we were constantly in caves and the like. The hexblade version of this build I've been kicking around looks much more like a turn 2 burst build candidate as well as being much more defensive with shield and the like, but it relies much much more on building up to being an immensely powerful character rather than just having those things at earlier levels. I think the ideal set-up is rogue 1 (or pally 1 for heavy armor), hexblade 2, oathbreaker 7 which means no extra attack until level 8. Then you are highly incentivized to go bladelock 3 for the pact weapon for your offhand and now you have the difficult choice of whether you want action surge or to try and cap out at warlock 12 for lifedrinker or to pivot and go for the sorcerer or bard route while picking up action surge somewhere along the way. This also begs the question of why take rogue at all. My hunch is that the warlock levels are better because you cap charisma much earlier and get access to double smiting, 4d8 shadow blade, and smite slots that refresh on short rest, but sorcerer getting BA booming blade is worth a look for a sword and board pivot.
Absolutely love this video and the build. Man bun too
Could you try to make an Arya Stark inspired Many-Faced God build? I was thinking 6 levels in College of Whispers Bard and some levels into Phantom Rogue. It’d be more roleplay focused than damage focused though, so not sure how it would fit into the chart.😅

I wasn't going to say anything but you mentioned it so early on, I love the bun! I think it looks really good on you
I did a style of Crit Fisher that was Half-Orc and took the Piercer and Orcish Fury feats. Hexblade with a rapier and I was critting often enough and when I did it was a handful of dice each time. My attack went from 1d8 to 4d8 and add on Orcish Fury and Eldritch Smite for some serious burst damage.
Loving the hair transitioning into Viking Warknot! Very fitting! And wear your hair however you want, I'm here for the entertainment value you bring to my life!

If you knock Prone with Warhorse or Trip Attack, you could account for said chance of freeing up your Bonus Action to use a smite spell (Thunderous Smite), Hunter's Mark (Oath Spells), or Quickened Spell (Booming Blade) in the first three damage reports.
Best AD break every LMAO

I like you trying i new hairstyle, go for it : ) !!!
Nice add...keep up with the skits...I like it. Good vid in general....
If you wanna do a pally build that counts the mounts damage I've gotta pitch the Dark Rider again. Oath breaker X 1 level hex blade 1 level order cleric. If you make your steed a fiend it also benefits from your aura of hate and with order domain cleric any time you share a spell with your steed it can make free reaction attacks. On top of that you could use mounted combat for a source of semi consistent advantage and if you can manage to pick up enlarge reduce you can get advantage against large creatures too. Also those free reaction attacks can trigger trampling charge if done after moving 20 feet giving you an extra shot at a bonus action attack meaning your warhorse could get 3 attacks on a turn. Food for thought
"Thanks for not laughing too hard at my man bun" Lies. You have no idea how hard I may or may not have laughed.
You know, a rogue/paladin who fights with a rapier, has an oath of vengeance he recites, and excels at pinpoint strikes rather reminds me of someone: "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."
Manbun looks great! I wish I could put that off!

The Tasha Beastmaster Ranger for a guide animal, blindfighting style Rapier as a weapon to act as a walking stick splash in either Rogue thief for added sneak attack damage or Battlemaster Fighter for maneuvers. If you're playing after the new PHB comes out, check out Dwarf or Half-Dwarf as a race for possibly tremorsense. Oh, and don't forget Ranger has access to Fog Cloud if you're missing the darkness devil sight combo
That same Kobold friend has also voiced their opinion on crit fisher builds a couple of times. I especially liked their homebrew rendition of the Champion Fighter.
I had an idea for a really flexible character at level 15 for a one shot that I never got to play unfortunately... It has success in pretty much every pillar of play in my opinion, I think you would enjoy playing around with it. Hexblade Warlock 3 Fey Wanderer Ranger 6 Lore Bard 6 It uses early Magical Secrets to get access to Find Greater Steed, but more importantly, Swift Quiver. It has incredible damage, with very few resources actually put into damage. So all the rest of the spell slots can be put into whatever you want. The only caveats are that it's better if you don't use multiclass ability score restrictions, and thus can dump Dexterity. Honestly most of the issues I run into with this build are restrictions during character building, such as ASI's/feats being tied to class level and not character level, as well as point buy only allowing you to make a stat so high/low. In my perfect game I get rid of those restrictions, though I know most people don't do that. It also has a TON of expertise/proficiency bonuses, so with maxed out Wisdom and Charisma, you are the best in the game at social interactions. Have fun!
@PuppetSoul
Ай бұрын
While you have 5th level slots, you don't have access to 5th level spells, since Magical Secrets is limited to the spells available on the Bard table and not the spell slots you have available from any source.
@AllThingsFascinate
Ай бұрын
Puppetsoul is correct. Unfortunately, you could not pickup those spells
Really liked this build. Also gotta appreciate all the ways you have to get advantage. Vow of Enmity to have guaranteed advantage on an enemy, Trampling charge from the Warhorse to potentially knock prone (admittedly more likely at early levels but still good), Tides of Chaos and Steady Aim for some more situational advantage, and also the optional Trip Attack and Shadow Blade for a few more ways to gain advantage. Yeah, you only really need one way to get advantage, but having more just makes it more consistent (while also allowing for some mini bursts later in the combat), and it’s nice to see that.
I’d have gone with warlock instead of sorcerer here, but for a different reason. At warlock 3 you can take pact of the chain or pact of the tome for find familiar either way. I’d go with chain for an invisible helping familiar that’s more reliable. But it gives yet another reliable way to get advantage on an attack.
Crits? I like crits. Big numbers make character go BRRR!
"Check it out right up..." NOWHERE
Not to mention adding the Lucky Feat on top of that I believe that will add another d20.
Dude, the Rogue's Steady Aim feature from Tasha's. Instant advantage, at the expense of all your movement. Start Rogue and take it to 3, take Swashbuckler instead of assassin for advantage whenever you 1v1 someone. Then Vengeance Pally, Whisper Bard, and 2 levels of un-typed Fighter. Take a background that will fill in any holes in your spell list.
@DnDDeepDive
Ай бұрын
it's great, but only works on a single attack which is a big bummer. One attack just doesn't compare to multiple if you can get 'em. Also, Swashy can let you get sneak attack 1v1 but doesn't give advantage ;).
Looking forward to a series of builds that don't require setup.
0:26 Champion Fighter literally crying rn
I did something very similar with a Thunderous Smite hit and run build. Hexblade, Vengeance Paladin, Swashbuckler Rogue.
The man bun can stay Sokka would be proud
Woo! Champion!!!
I can't wait to level up and get a fighting stool!!!
I would go blind fighting for that second fighting style. sometimes allies like the darkness devils sight combo, and you being able to take advantage of that gives you a potential way to gain advantage as well as making sure that you never have disadvantage canceling your advantage. Collage of Swords Bard feels like he best thing for those spell slots, you gain the ability to throw your bardic inspiration in on damage (saved for crits) it also really helps you be a support caster when your not in your nova round. I feel like the Shadar Kai Bardlockadin is still the best way to do this build it just needs to b build for NovaSmite instead of the sustained damage.
As a fellow rocker of a man bun, it’s kind of life changing lol I always wore hats when my hair got too long, so it’s been nice to give myself an alternate option when hats feel too uncomfortable that day.
you look great with the man bun, keep it up!
Sokka hair ftw!!🎉
Not sure if you have the interest/bandwidth, but I'd love to see a series where you look at how powerful you could make a build with DM buy-in. For example, I had a player that wanted to crit fish, and I let them be a Half-orc/half-elf (orc mechanically) and use Elven Accuracy on Strength based attacks. It was really fun to see their Champion 15, Barbarian 2 character criting at least once most turns with a Flame-tongue Greataxe.
Just based on the first few levels High half-elf seems like a solid choice to booming or greenflame blade until you get extra attack
Next build, the Bar-stool Brawler. Looking forward to it
Maybe Blindfighting for the second fighting style? Cheap defense against arguably the most common source of disadvantage on attack rolls.
Oh man, I'm gonna have to listen to this one in the background. I just can't watch the world's most handsome man's hair go from Zack Morris to Mario Batali, it's too jarring🤣
The man bun… works. Big ranger vibes 👍
Wow, Randal is always good, but this week’s really pops!
6:31 wwwwwooof 😅 Randy Hammy goin off
Honey wake up, a new d4 video just dropped!
I'm only at lvl 1 watching the video, but champion fighter 15, arcane trickster rogue 3, paladin 2. Archery fighting style. Elven accuracy feat. Sharp shooter feat is a damn good build.
You could get a higher chance to crit by getting the Lucky Feat. If you wanted to use Booming Blade you could roll another D20 by using Seeking Spell Metamagic ability.
Alright I have a great build concept. Level One go custom lineage and take Tavern Brawler. Take at least 2 levels of barbarian for reckless, and as many fighter levels as practical (probably 10-11). Take the archery fighting style, Great Weapon Master, Sharpshooter, and Dual Wielder. Dual wield Heavy Crossbows, but use them as a melee weapon, to take -10 on each attack, but every hit does +20 damage. Because sharpshooter and archery fighting style does NOT specify it needs to be a ranged attack, only that it must be a ranged weapon. I want to see how far you could take this.
DM Colby is awesome hahahha the haaair I can't 😂😂😂
