Taking social media also takes away access to friends when they are ostracized by people nearby. It reduces their chance to get help if they’re being abused or stalked. It further isolates rural kids and kids with overprotective parents who don’t let them go anywhere. So, unfortunately, taking away social media can also worsen other problems. There need to be safe social media sites that are properly monitored for harassment and bullying and hate posts.

You’re not wrong, but you’re also not quite accurate. It’s not the phones. It’s the algorithms used in the apps that promote what people are using and doing on those phones. I remember before all these huge companies had “monetized” everything, they hadn’t even thought of that word yet, and phones were just fine. That’s because they only did what you wanted to do on them - they weren’t sitting there constantly analyzing and manipulating you into contorting yourself into all these unnatural situations just to make the apps more popular or keep people stuck scrolling on their social media all the time. You only saw what you wanted to see and what you looked for, not what huge companies’ algorithms decided would make more money for those huge companies by soaking up every second of your life in your brain all the time. So it is the phones, but it’s not the phones themselves. The phones are only the source of exposure - the problem is the priorities and values of the people and companies putting the content on those phones. That has completely and utterly lost all humanity, and it is killing us all.

Austin, you are such a beautiful, intelligent, insightful, articulate, compassionate and brave soul. Your big brown eyes light up this world young man. Your mama just beams when she looks at you and listens to your wise worlds. Her love for you is palpable. You are very special…truly a gift. Your essence reached right through the screen to this 60 your old mama in california and broke my heart wide open. I pray you will continue to improve. I can share with you that what my child and I both found helpful when going through our own very dark time was to stay away from social media, limit video game by a lot, get as much fresh air as possible, move your body in ways that you find fun (ie: scootering, biking etc) and stay away from the news. When someone like yourself is as sensitive as you are, the news can be overwhelming. I have convinced myself that the most important thing I can do in today’s world is just try to make my own little corner as peaceful as possible…knowing that that peace will trickle out. Lastly, as much as you can Austin, try to stay away from ultra processed foods…especially anything that has sugar in it. These things are fun and yummy, but our bodies and minds were not designed to process the chemicals and they cause horrific depression. It’s scientifically proven that the more fruits and veggies you eat today the better your mood will be tomorrow. I know it’s so hard, especially when you are young, but I promise you through my personal experience, it works. My heart is with you handsome young man. One minute at a time…I pray you stay with us. This world and your family need you. Sending love from California.

Of course the driver was very sorry. That was a growing year and at the same time a very difficult year as he had prior, many friends.... I did my best to help him, we got involved in activities but it still hurt that no one had invited him over. He grew in many ways that year and went back to public school. A year I will never forget as far as mental health.

I agree 100%, not only is it causing mental health issues but the physical issues are growing. I live in one of the top five populated cities and I kid you not that every single playground, park, ballfield is empty. I am 42 and when I was a kid the sports association would have to turn kids away because they didn't have enough teams. I also was once told I had .mental health issues in my late 20s and the amount of mothers I saw with 2,3,4 kids all running around, misbehaving has to be part of the problem, some mothers were even using their children to obtain medications to sell, relieve welfare, and get SS benefits. I can bet the amount t of people doing those things as is probably 30%. It is a shame that the kids who need the help don't get it, while the kids who might just need a father figure or some discipline are clogging up the system. That is the viscous cycle of relying on the government

We are, in part, a society that does not allow for the individual processing of extreme stress or grief in its various, sometimes slow stages. It is sometimes gaslighting to blame the victim and label him/her as mentally ill. It’s more compassionate and humane if it were authentically stated as: a person coping with extreme stress and grief is suffering and needs help and support. Adults and caretakers would be best served to also get assistance if they don’t understand their child’s grief or know how to trust and project resilience, healing and success. With the right tools and skills and ability to communicate, resilience is a natural human phenomenon.

I don't understand why teens say that the virus of '20 scarred them the most. Yes, I agree that year of lockdowns was miserable for us all. But if I remember, it was teenagers who refused to help "flatten the curve". In my city, it was the younger generation that would not wear a mask if they were asked to. And it was the same kids who looted businesses after a day of peaceful protesting. Again, someone (preferably a teen) please tell me how COVID-19 caused them such severe depression.

I have 3 sons, the stupid shutdown had 2 A+ students lose interest, and my B/C kid doesn't take it fully serious still. The whole stupid shutdown ruined a huge portion of responsibility for my kids. Yep I'm their mom,my husband & I married 22 years now( together for 27)...we are there for them- the ridiculous political driven closure of our world back a few years ago now- did nothing but harm social, happy school-aged kids. The adversary wants their minds...subliminal dark thoughts via repetitive music lyrics, video games, horror movies, negative and deceptive content on social media, bullying, etc. They need the Lord Jesus Christ who has delivered so many from the spirit of depression and suicide!

I will never sympathize or pity their "loss." Your interviewer selected middle class kids who, to me, were just whining about "loneliness and isolation" that naturally was going to happen during college or their first time away from home. Social media has really made a show out if the normal things that happen regularly, albeit sans a medical pandemic, which, ironically, was presented like an afterthought to the actual issue of kids these days who are desocialized and desensitized by too much superficial social media. Next time, interview the poor, too, for their stories.

Listen, being isolated at 9 YEARS OLD is much different from being isolated at 18/19 in college years. At 9 years old being isolated for 2-4 years is about 30-50% of their observable conscious life by that point. These are children, babies, have more compassion.

God loves you and takes care of you so that this message reaches you. God is the one who created this great universe and has complete control over it. And the greatest loss that a person loses in this life is that he lives while he does not know God who created him, knowing the Messenger of Muhammad, the last of the messengers, and the Islamic religion, the last of the heavenly religions. The great intelligence, before you believe in something or not, is to read it, study it, and understand it well, and then you have the choice to believe in it or not. I advise you on this now before you do not have time to do that.
