It’s always fascinating hearing metal fans say “bro, being edgy is cringe”. When all of the classic metal bands were edgy as hell. By their definition metal itself is cringe. Death, Slayer, Exodus, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest these dudes were and still are edgy and angry, that’s what metal is.

I'm sorry, but I really don't get the logic behind Ice Nine Kills and Motionless In White being more cringe than Attila and Limp Bizkit. Attila should be in its own category above pure cringe in my opinion.

Facts ice nine kills especially, they are true hustlers at its finest, they've been grinding it out since 2002 and they finally blown up after almost 20 years of not getting really noticed and they're having so much fun with horror+metal and they are making so much money off of not just music but off of there tours, merch, and events like conventions and apps. Alot of Hot Topic mall rat scene kids are triggered i see lmfao, defending these $hitty little bands. Only band in this list im guilty of liking in my youth is Slipknot. I also so akwardly like that one kid rock song, "Youve never met a mofo quite like me" lol. but thats it.

As a recent INK fan (2019) I did think they were ‘metal cringe’ but in a very good way. They 100% know they are super theatrical and that’s what makes them super fun especially in concert. Not only that but their videos are phenomenal. They do the horror genre well.

Their new stuff is good but doesn't compare to when they hadn't blown up. Every trick in the book is their best album IMO and they're easily the best band I heard live when they toured for the album.

How is Slipknot cringe? Maybe their imagery is cringe to some people, but their lyrics come from a dude venting out about things from his rough past all the way to just issues in the world he feels strongly about. The music itself may not be for everyone, but it definitely isn't cringe.

Had to stop at Ice Nine Kills. Have you seen any of the Child's Play movies? They perfectly captured the essence in Assault & Batteries. What was even more odd was that you said Limp Bizkit is at least self aware and that makes them a less cringe. I don't know why that wouldn't apply to Ice Nine Kills also. The song writing is top notch as well as the lyrics. I can respect differing opinions but the reasoning has to be a lot better than it was here.

Seems to me that for all of the “it’s not meant to be taken seriously” talk, it’s mostly the INK fans in here being WAY too serious who can’t handle even MILD criticism. You may not find it cringe, but a LOT of people do. Regardless, this is just supposed to be some light-hearted fun. Not really worthy of this level of defensiveness. Just enjoy your music. Creatures was the epitome of Motionless In White. Infamous and Reincarnate weren't bad, but I'm not a fan of anything after that. Most of Graveyard Shift and Disguise is just radio pop metal, and STEOTW isn't much better. Creatures is the best album they ever put out, and the only things they had at the time that was different than now, were TJ Bell, Josh Balz, and Angelo Parente. Clearly those 3 were the best things to happen to Motionless In White. Anymore, they're just a pop band with screaming, distorted guitars, and "gothic" imagery.

We Are Not Your Kind is Slipknot's most mature album so I don't think that they got more cringey later on in their career. The Grey Chapter (one of my least favorite albums) is very mature as well. WANYK is definitely my favorite slipknot album by far.

I feel like people don't really get the difference between edgy lyrics and cringey edgy lyrics. Like Acid Bath, Sludge Metal legends, have edgy lyrics, but they back them up with stellar guitars, drum work and fantastic melody composition and quality vocal work, and there's a level of genuineness that's not present with alot of modern like "radio metal" bands, that skirt around being explicit for the sake of making money, they were hard drug addled swamp people from Houma, Louisiana, and I say that with the utmost love and respect for the entire band. But like anyone who can write a song with the lyrics "Eat My Dead Cock", followed shortly by the lyrics "Eat My Cold Shit" and make it sound like the hardest, heaviest shit is edgy yes, but not cringe, especially knowing they are widely considered one of the most influential bands to come out of the NOLA scene. Compare that to a band like Atilla, who have edgy, tough guy lyrics meant to be offensive and explicit but with zero genuineness, zero uniqueness, poor composition, sounding like your garden variety modern metal but worse. They don't have the "edge" to make their edgy and at times even goofy lyrics feel anything but just overwhelmingly cringe.

At first I also think Ink is cringe, but damn everything about them is so good I can't stop listeningXD For someone who doesn't know them well, the idea of a band that mostly make songs about horror movies really gives off that "fan songs that soon would become anthems for teens' fandoms" vibe. And it could be very cringey, but if you look at it from the perspective of the band, taking the time to make something for the stories you love isn't that cringe. Especially when I look at the lyrics and the puns, as a person that loves reading, the writing is great. I'm not saying I wanna fight you or whatever, different opinions so Idk why I'd do that. But that's how I stop thinking they're cringe. Edit: some of the bands in the video is still cringe for me, but they're so damn good I'll just embrace the cringe. Seeing them being cringey is kinda cute sometimes, makes me love the band more XD

Ice Nine Kills is one of the most creative and dedicated metal bands out there today. They but on a better live show and commitment to their concepts better than almost every other band on this list. I’ll defend them forever, so let’s not confuse creativeness with cringe

Alot of Motionless in White fans and Ice Nine Kills fans were in high school during Brokencyde and BOTDF. We were blinded to the cringe by comparison

Great vide Metal Trenches. I personally love Ice Nine Kills, the Instruments to me pack a punch, the vocal style and melody choices go greatly with the sound they're going for, and I honestly think the music videos are pretty fun to watch and fit the songs pretty well. But I can definitely see why their approach to that type of sound wouldn't appeal to everyone, the sample placements in some of their songs are random, and the vocals in a lot of places can feel a bit exaggerated which kind of throws me off at times.

Yo Hed PE, I got a story about them. Saw them around I wanna say 2004 in a place called the Funhouse in Buffalo NY, it was a Halloween show. There was a contest party, oh and Filter was there. After the show the lead singer of Hed PE came to the upstairs bar and we were like "Hey great show" and we offered to buy him a drink and he was like alright so we did, then he sat at our table and there was like 6 of us. He drank a whiskey drink we got him, talked about how he's tripping on acid, called my friend Janine a Nazi because she was a shaved head Goth, and then asked us if we had weed. We gave him some weed - it was admittedly swag but all that was really available back then - and he was insulted, he was like "Man wtf is this shit? Seedy ass shit!" Then he got up and stormed off. SO anyways, he sucks.

First show I’ve ever seen was Spineshank/Hed pe/System of a Down (all touring behind their debut albums) opening up for Fear Factory (Obsolete just came out). I was in 7th grade and my dad took me. It’s one of my fav memories. That being said, I’m not surprised MCUD is a piece of human excrement. He’s tried to hitch a ride on the Woke Wagon, and has somehow not been “canceled” for his “offensive” lyrics. He’s a terrible rapper, lyricist and can’t scream or sing for shhtt. Without the talent of his band, he’s nothing. To be fair though, EVERY rapper from 90s-00s have managed to skate by without catching ANY criticism from the wokesters. But hey, that’s Black Privilege for ya.

I love slipknot, INK, and MIW. I mostly agree with MIW being cringe, but I love the sound and I can get behind the feel of the songs because they seem more genuine then most. Slipknot I don’t think is very hot topic, but while some lyrics I generally love, some are really bad like you said, ide still put them in mild cringe because I think for the most part it’s fine, but the song Get This also exists so I understand your placement. The only one I really disagree with entirely is INK. The songs are well put to together. The lyrics are corny because they are accurately portraying the source material and a lot of love and care is put into the music and their live performances. People like what they like and if it’s not for you, then more power to you. Even though I disagree with you and think some points may not have been the best, you still had good points and unlike others you weren’t outright shitting on these bands, and like you said we’re all a little cringe. Good video.

I don’t get it, literally with INK the songs are about horror movies and obviously they will be cringe cause that’s what a lot of horror movies are… cringe. Look at the one on Friday the 13th. That movie is cheesy as all hell, and the song makes perfect use of that. The movies are campy, hence why the songs are campy.

Considering the source material of the lyrics, some songs being from the perspective of the killer as well as the references to scenes in the movie on top of being loyal to the source material, I'd say that INK is at most cringe but fun. Because Spencer is CLEARLY having the time of his life during his performances and does his very best to not only entertain the fans, but make it as memorable as possible. Not to mention the quality of his music videos alone are more work then 70% of bands out there.

Ice Nine Kills and Motionless in White are FAR from cringe. They are such power musics with amazing lyrics and like a mix media of rock, i LOVE the theatrics and how bad ass it sounds. I don’t ever know why some would complain it’s too theatrical but it is that very essence why these 2 bands (along with falling reverse) are my favs. There’s this essence of scores, choir, violins and then metalcore *chefs kiss* and this isn’t even touching the lyrics yet. I think if i met anyone who didn’t like em, I’d just give side eye. Like… huh?

INK is cringe in the absolute best way. Some of their songs are WAY too much cringe for me, but they are just so much fun. In an interview with Spencer where someone said that the band wasn’t as kitschy as she expected, he corrected her to say that it was very kitschy. Like people listen to 5fdp and think they are cool. INK has a sound somewhere between metalcore and musical theater, so a lot more listeners know it’s cringe but find it fun.

Strong disagree with INK. They are the kings of what they do. They love horror movies so much to the point they dropped TWO horror themed albums that were immediate successes. To say that is cringe is pretty poor

i liked the misfits horror image more tbh but i can respect it. (also they’re different genres anyway)

I honestly love Limp Bizkit. They're not a band that you take seriously lyrically, but I really do love the musicianship. Chocolate Starfish had a lot of John Otto and Wes Borlands best work on it and it was a catchy, fun rock album.

I mean there are even some nice moments of clarity in their lyrics, like Behind Blue Eyes. They're indeed a very fun band, and rock and metal fans should keep in mind that it's ok not to take yourself seriously here and there.

Idk, maybe I’m biased but MIW is legendary. But I can see it. Also another band I personally love but deserves to be here is Falling In Reverse. Ronnie being a huge asshole doesn’t help anything and their pop punk was kinda horrendous to me

gotta say, being a huge ice nine kills and motionless fan, that thumbnail caught my eyes in an instant. had to check out the video and gotta say, killer. i liked that you never ONCE called any of these bands bad, just told your viewpoint on them. you were respectful when dishing out criticism, and your points made sense. i don’t know why everyone’s up in arms over this video, when you *LITERALLY* said that this was all in good fun at 0:16! people get so blinded by rage that they feel they HAVE to take it on when someone even slightly disagrees with them lol. keep it up, can’t wait to see part 2 with falling in reverse! love that band, and I will anxiously wait for your criticism on them. stay metal \m/

INK and FFDP happen to be 2 of my favourite bands. I really love the vibe of both. But I can agree with your statements. The music videos from INK are pretty cringe, but I do have a lot of fun watching them. This is why I love music, so many different styles and opinions. I don't get why people have to attack someone else's opinions.

I was really sad to see ffdp in pure cringe. They are my top favorite band, i feel like you took their songs that are douchey and used that to represent them as a whole. Songs like remember everything and gone away are not douchey at all and they still have a ton like them. But, i do have to agree with the douche aspect. I thought the exact same thing before i listened to them as well. I just dont thing i deserves to be at the top.

I remember when the Trapt “singer” started his whole Twitter meltdown and I saw someone comment that he has Aaron Lewis-political beliefs with the personality of Ronnie Radke. That is the funniest, yet best way to describe him. Also, when I heard “Headstrong” for the first time, I thought “When did Papa Roach get a new singer? He sounds awful. 😂”

Oh Boy. Atilla. With beautiful songs like ""Callout 2"" where the word 'Fuck' is mentioned 48 times, calling out everyone he dissed on twitter, and making a T-shirt of it. With several celebreties and singers: LoganPaul, Ricegum, Bhad Bhabie and so many more. Definitly a band where insecurities shine like the sun. And I'd put them at *very* cringe.

I mean c'mon. Motionless in White and ice nine kills? I can't understand this logic. Especially with motionless in white. U re talking about few verses. What about songs like eternally yours, legacy, another life, masterpiece, cyberhex, unstoppable and many more? The lyrics are mad cringe. Also just the whole 55DP tough guy shtick is pure small dick energy.

As someone who didn't grow up listening to metal, and in fact, listened solely to Johnny Cash or similar artists, and also Christian music growing up, which seems like the exact opposite of metal, as I've gotten older, I've also tiptoe'd my way towards metal slowly (and RAN away from anything "religious" except Skillet). I'm currently at a level where I listen to a lot of the "mainstream" metal like Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold, Motorhead and Disturbed (though mostly just select songs, like "The Unforgiven," "Carry On" and "Nightmare," "Ace of Spades," and "Down With The Sickness" and "The Sound of Silence") and watching videos like this kind of helps me figure out what I'd probably like more and what I probably wouldn't like. For example, an old friend of mine loves Ice Nine Kills, and I could see why, since they love horror movies like Saw and Chucky and IT, and I love those kinds of movies too. In fact, I have every Saw movie (minus Spiral), and my next franchise I'll be working on collecting is Child's Play/Chucky. But I don't see the appeal in listening to a song written from the perspective of the killer, and seems to take itself seriously. I mean, it just seems kinda lazy to me. I feel like anyone could write a song like that. I don't even know how to write music and I could probably write a whole song from the perspective of Jason or Freddy or something. It may not be good, but I could do it. Now, if it was something more like Social Mediasochist by Low Carb Comedy (aka Zoran "I edit for The Kill Count" Gvojic) where it's a parody of serial killers and the song is sung from the perspective of one, and not meant to be taken seriously, then I could see it being entertaining. But taken seriously like that? I don't get it. So I appreciate you for making videos like this, both for people who are already metalheads, and for those who are becoming one more and more over time. Music like this has started speaking to me a lot as I've gotten older and as I've gone through a lot. I'm almost 23 now and I can appreciate why people make this kind of music. Well, at least the GOOD bands anyway. Not that "cringe" means "bad," but from this video, it seems like PURE Cringe definitely does mean bad, and "VERY Cringe" seems to be riding the line a bit.

While their newer stuff ("Never Dawn", the albums "Dark Adrenaline" and "Black Anima") is more metal, you might also like their earlier, lighter, almost blues feeling stuff? I'll fully admit with no shame to still loving all the scene-core and crunk-core silliness of the Myspace era, but something about Motionless in White just feels so fake. Every album has 4 or 5 songs that sound like a complete rip off of other bands, and many of them have stolen lyrics. It's like there is no identity to that band, just an amalgamation of other band's ideas done in a bargain bin fashion, so I think they deserve their spot for that reason.

Nah. FFDP is actually not that cringe. Wrong side of heaven, afterlife, gone away, I refuse, a little bit off, bad company, remember everything, wash it all away, and many others are beautiful. The fact that disturbed isn’t on here says a lot.

The main positive I have about ffdp is when they do make a good song that song is really good. They’re like both extremes to me

definitely agree with slipknot being cringe lol, I don't listen to them a ton but i love going to their concerts, however, their whole thing is basically just being the heaviest band that non metalheads listen to. All of the things they talk about being "sick" and "fucked up" is no different than literally any other metal band ever, but they make it such a big deal to the point where its annoying. Like dude, we know your life is a shitshow and how you have to deal with depression, drugs, anxiety, and what not, but literally every other metal band has dealt with the same exact thing, they just don't make it their whole personality. Corey taylor is a good vocalist and performer but it definitely makes me cringe when they pause the show every 2 songs so he can rant about how crazy they are and how crazy you have to be to like them

That’s their whole vibe. Music isn’t made for artists. When I feel sick or fucked up I listen to them, which is quite often. Maybe some people can’t relate, but it doesn’t make them bad. And they do it better than anyone else. And it’s an accomplishment that they have non-metalheads listening to super heavy shit like Iowa sometimes

More important than arguing if some band is cringe or not is being respectful about the other's opinions, and seems like the chat here don't know what is is. I actually disagree a little bit with some choices here, I love Ice Nine Kills, some Slipknot and Motionless In White stuff but the point here is relax and think like "that guy thinks this band is cringe hahaha cringe". Great video man, it was funny to watch.

I've been in the process of moving and didn't have much clean laundry this morning, so just threw on an old MIW shirt from 9th grade and a few of my fellow metalhead coworkers who are used to seeing me in Archspire, Death, TBDM, Behemoth, Cattle Decap shirts etc. were like, "dude what the fuck?" So I came clean, and I'm doing it again. I love Motionless In White.

@@MetalTrenches Disclaimer: I don't know if this comment posted or not since my phone haa been bugging out and can't see my last reply but I'll try to redescribe what I said before which will be difficult since I'm very drunk: "Lmao, I even have an 'Eternally Yours' tattoo done by their old drummer Angelo at the steel city tattoo expo at Station Square in Pittsburgh. Ever since then, you can see dozens of copycat tattoos just by searching 'eternally yours' tattoos, but mine was the first and it was done by Angelo Perente of Black Casket Tattoo. Ever since then every MIW fanboy/girl has wanted one and that's evident by the numerous copies of my tattoo, which was originally designed by my girlfriend. Thankfully Angelo is a very talented and ethical artist who won't do the same design twice unless heavily altered. The takeaway is that mine is the first of its kind, and that whether I enjoy their current music or not, MIW will forever have a special place in my heart and on my flesh.

I will still listen to Creatures on repeat tho 😭

I watched this video randomly because I hoped to see you list bands that I find the most cringiest. I wasn't disappointed until I saw Sleep Token's logo pop up. I think they are the least cringiest band on the list, so I agree they belong on the bottom. However, musically they are probably the most talented band on this list, especially considering it is basically one guy writing and performing everything (it also helps that the other guy in the band is one of the premier drummers out there.) I get that some people find the masks gimmicky and cringe. I get that the origin story is kind of cringe as well. I kind of felt the same way when I first encountered them. But now, years later, I wish I wouldn't have written them off so quickly. But I will say that the music, lyrics, and fans are absolutely not cringe. In fact, it has been refreshing to encounter a fan base that seems to be wholly accepting and unified in their love for the music and the musicians. The Sleep Token fan base is also very diverse, and has people from all kind of genres and walks of life coming together to appreciate it. That is hard to do in music and even in life, and especially so in music that can get heavy at times. Metal elitists have a history of having toxic opinions (I myself am even guilty of it.) I know I sound like a cringey worshipper now, and I suppose that fits the narrative, haha. But yeah, I agree with ALMOST everything in this video.

Sleep Token are one of my favourite bands; they have been since I discovered them in 2017 when they were releasing EPs on Basick Records and hadn't played a single live show yet. About a half-year ago, I did a rant video going a LIL' TOO HARD on @The Metal Meltdown for his review of the newest album. I sorta' wonder if my rant prompted Robert to delete the video.

@@MetalTrenches I know what you mean, but even back then I knew that the whole “cult” thing was all image. I was defending the music at the time, but in retrospect, I went a little too hard on him. However, I did get over 500 views from that video alone due to me posting it all over social media, so in a weird way, I’m kind of proud of it? Now if you search up “the metal meltdown sleep token review”, the first thing you’re gonna see is my response video, so in a weird way, my video is now one of the only pieces of evidence that Robert ever did that review.

I think MIW is the cringiest band ever. Seeing them live it’s nothing but highschool kids on their phones. The backup dancers and the theatrical aspect made me honestly miserable. I honestly enjoyed them before I saw them live. Attila is right there with them .

I would also like to ask how you can create a metal cringe list without Monowar?

Limp Bizkit is one of my favorites and I enjoy a lot of MIW material but I can recognize how it can be cringy to people that arent the biggest fans of them.
