There are also civilians working as PIs monitoring the Police and other civil servants. In Singapore, anything is possible. If a police officer accepted a bribe in one dark corner or back lane, the next day he sure get caught one. Eyes are everywhere.

the case is condensed from what it probably was . They likely investigated every Spanish speaking arrival from that day then crossed out people that didn't fit. While this case is from 2012, there have been quite a few robberies by Colombian visitors since then so there is a trend.
