I've never read Crime and Punishment--aside from the first two chapters or so--but Dostoevsky and works have been a source of inspiration for me for some time now, an interest kindled after reading Notes from Underground, one of the most challenging, enlightening, and insightful works of fiction I've read in a while. Bravo to the narrator of this series, and the actor who plays Raskolnikov--they bring the book alive.

This documentary is awful. It makes Dostoyevsky's books seem so tiresomely depressing to read, rather than insightful and tense. The video also seems to add in weird dramatic moments and odd lines like "as modern as AIDS", as well as unfortunate Russian name pronunciation :/
