Crime calls up 2,900% at hotel converted to homeless shelter in Denver

In the first three months after the City of Denver converted a hotel in Denver's Central Park neighborhood to a shelter for the homeless, calls for police and first responders rose 2,900% compared to the previous three months when it served as a hotel, according to city data obtained by CBS News Colorado.

Nice strawman argument you have there. Have you ever tried arguing with a real person? If you did, you'd find that no one says that all homeless people simply need housing and nothing more. Just like YOU, homeless people are humans with varying issues and problems. Your problem is you're obviously a conservative and brain scans have proven that conservatives have terrible issues with their fear centers and nuance.

Sorry to say that other cities tried this and it failed for same reasons. You can’t take homeless off the street and put them in a motel or any housing if they are not gonna change their street behavior. Especially when drugs and mental problems are the problem too. They have to seek help to get off the drugs and be sober before you can house them - same with mental illness. They need to seek help and seen by professionals to diagnose them and put them on meds and see mental health on regular basis before you can house them too. Can’t expect them to change their behavior if the problems with themselves are not dealt with. Need to make stricter laws on drug use. It all really took off like wild fire when weed was legalized. I remember news reports on suddenly seeing more transits coming to Colorado for the legal weed and more and more kept coming. Now other drugs are becoming legal to use and this zombie behavior and drug use is just gonna get worse and worse. Once it’s legal then people run with it like telling a child it’s ok to eat as much candy as they want and ice cream because they can do what they want now. And kids will do just that…too many people rather live in an alternate state of mind. I pray that people open their eyes to what they are doing to themselves and their loved ones.

What's funny was the Denver7 coverage of the hotel being converted to homeless housing. I believe it was some other location, instead of the one shown by CBS. They were interviewing a lady about how her whole life changed and that "she got to start over" because she was housed. That, if it wasn't for Denver providing her housing, she wouldn't get off the streets. There's so much dishonesty from that coverage by Denver7, because that's not what is happening in the absolute majority. Everything you mention is 100% correct and happening. I also hope people open their eyes to the danger of what's happening. Our society shouldn't be encouraging this type of behavior. It's a failed experiment that's putting us so far backwards.

That’s interesting. The residents (who pay taxes) are asked not to call the police (who they fund) on the people living in the shelter, (that they also fund) for crimes that they see. Liberal logic.

I don't believe this report because I remember Mayor Johnston telling us that 911 calls around homeless encampments were not caused by those "people experiencing homelessness." Interesting tactic, educate residents not to call 911 (because you make the city look bad) Cole Chandler will remain onsite until this attention blows over. Come back to this hotel in two weeks and see if he's still there. $10 says he's not.

There are plenty of working people on the brink of homeless thus they have yet to establish the mentality of how to sleep under stars. To change the narrative of homeless this working class could be afforded this option, hotel size rooms, as opposed to not roof at all and combined them with homeless people who have the wherewithal to function. Instead of contracting every job out seek those house members with skills and create jobs so residents can have an investment in taking care of the property. Without mental health facilities to house those unable to function within the borders of society, such buildings should be purchased augmented to their needs.
