    It's so common that fire fighting water actually sinks the vessel. This happened when the Queen Elizabeth capsized in Hong Kong after a fire (the ship was not occupied, with paseengers it was permanently moored).

    It is very hard to maneuver a Big Yacht into port with high winds and heavy seas ... You have to position your boat so that the waves and wind assist to bring the boat into the Harbor ... if you aim for the Marina in those conditions ... you will be blown out of your intended lane ... it is tricky ... no arguing that !!!

    Quite wrong really,if you have any doubt about the entry don’t enter the port, I’ve seen a few yachts make dangerous entries and get away with it, all depends on the wind direction and the complexity of the port.

    this is more common than people think, boaters in the know always turn to sea when the weather picks up. Drownings close to shore is also common in rough weather. So at least they knew, or probably the coast rescue ordered them to stay put and they would rescue them.

    They’re back toward aiguadolc near the soho house at garraf. It’s that awkward bit where you can see the r2 train from the coast. The parc del garraf can be a real driver of weird weather, the two beaches between ginesta and sitges are often places with huge swells. I do it on a pati catala frequently and it is very unpredictable until you get past the massif garraf at the mouth of ginesta.

    Very surprised that this yacht didn't have some sort of line throwing system, designed for exactly this situation where you are washed up on the rocks and want to disembark crew to the shore. It really doesn't look like there was much swell behind the yacht so with a life jacket on and a line should have been able to get to the shore.

    That was a helluva place to park a boat. Shore was so close, but so far away. No matter how large, well-equipped, or how capable the captain and crew are, a floating vessel and those on board are at the mercy of the wind and water. I can think of nothing so imperative for all life forms, yet so lethal, as water. Will we never learn to cherish, care for, and respect our waters, both fresh and salt?

  • @csjrogerson2377

    @csjrogerson2377

    Because the level of training given to commercial mariners is inappropriate for smaller pleasure yachts. The RYA training covers crew, and masters from day skipper, to coastal, to offshore and ocean, with appropriate additions as the level of complexity increases. It is extremely good. Governments have stated that they do not wish to impose un-necessary compliance on the private pleasure domain.

    I hope the owner of Chaperelle has to cover the $840,000 salvage fee - maybe from the forced sale of his other assets if he is unwilling.

  • @shawnridsdale844
    @shawnridsdale8442 ай бұрын

    I would be curious as to how much money was syphoned off due to governmental corruption with the $800,000 salvage cost of Chaparral. There was probably $200,000 worth of working engine's, navigation equipment and other components on this vessel. And keep in mind, it didn't sink. So these components must have been recovered. Not to mention $60 - $75,000 worth of aluminum scrap... So I call B.S. that it cost a total $1,000,000 USD+ to dismantle and remove what was left. Might be something worth looking into in another video. Id love to see what you turn up.
