Sophita's "bad" ending is, in all retrospect, nicer than the good ending. For her at least. Good ending: she gets peeped at while trying to bathe in the river. "Bad" ending: she's walking through a peaceful meadow surrounded by the sweet sound of chirping birds that greet her with their presence ala fairytale princess-style. I guess the devs just couldn't bring themselves to have something actually bad happen to her.

Seeing how old the game seems to be, I wouldn't be surprised if the developers thought "Girls are too sensitive for bad endings, and girls tend to play girl characters... let's make girl characters have better endings than the male ones so the girl players' sweet minds don't get disturbed."

I’d be fine with the endings as long as they were actually different from bad endings. I don’t wanna desperately see any of them get impaled, but there is little to no difference between Taki’s good and bad.

In Sophitia's "good" ending, she breaks the 4th wall by splashing water at the player Throughout the game, you are a demon, you took over the body of the character you played as, forced them to fight and only you could decide their fate with a QTE

Strangely enough this sorta fits with Soul Calibur 2/Weapon Master mode as well. You go through the whole game just to realize you were the bloodthirsty one all along and you killed literally everyone for Soul Edge. Wtf

I love the music that plays in Voldo's "good" ending. This triumphant score blares in the background while Voldo gets on his knees and looks up to the sky. He would probably be screaming if he wasn't mute. It looks like something straight out of a "X happens while I play unfitting music" video.

Cervantes' good/input ending is pretty much the only time in the entire series where he isn't evil, power hungry or selfish.

As a kid, I got super hype thinking that i unlocked a new character called Tanegashima

The girls of Soul Edge have not been skipping leg day.

That English dub is just so stupid I was laughing at Siegfried's desperate cries, especially with that cheerful good ending music. Suddenly he starts becoming Nightmare and the song changes and I'm like "oh".

Korean characters speak Japanese, Japanese characters speak Japanese (score!), British character speaks American English (but he did end up in North America so maybe that one can pass...err not really though), Greek character speaks American English, German character speaks American English, Chinese character speaks Japanese, dead Italian character speaks breathless American English, Spanish character speaks American English/Pseudo-Pirate English... And then there's Maude!

"British English" as we know it is an invention of the XIX century's social elites (good ol chaps and the such). Up until then, it was either Ye Olde Englishe, or a modern english that sounded exactly like American English. TMYK~

***** More likely than not (just guessing here got no real proof) all of the voices were originally japanese, cause it was out in japan first. When it was released in the western world they probably dubbed over the japanese voices in english, and decided to leave the korean, japanese, and chinese characters in japanese because "they're all asian" so it was thought it was close enough. So its less them choosing only american and japanese voice actors and more laziness/shortcuts in the translation But again just my opinion, no proof of that whatsoever

Yeah, Siegfried bad ending is part of lore on soul calibur. He did become nightmare, you can see nightmare returns rest of soul calibur

Hwang is implied being turned into a vampire similar to Raphael in the following Soul series due to Soul Edge's corrupting powers. It would be a different take of the lore if Hwang got the Soul Edge rather than Siegfried.

You know, I find that a lot of fighting game series actually have very rich lore; ironic since the story is usually the last thing most people play fighting games for.

To me it really depends on the game. Some fighting games have a really terrible lore to it (Mortal Kombat and Tekken come to mind when it comes to weak lore), but others I really like to follow the story to (Guilty Gear and the Soul series are my favorite fighting game lores)

For voldos first ending you showed, Soul edge just wanted to get away from the darn guy so it exploded itself.

Voldo's input ending is considered to be his bad one, I guess because he broke the weapon Vercci asked for only in the good ending Cervantes shows remorse for his actions, aside from that never ever in the entire series

Partly since Taki killed him in this game, he's an undead pirate due to Soul Edge from Soulcalibur onwards. He's... not exactly himself at that point.

I never knew Voldo could break the Soul Edge. I just thought he could just rub it on his face forever.

I never knew there was an alternate ending to all these characters.....

Funny thing is, out of all the male characters, Voldo has the best outcomes. In either version, he lives with his physical health intact and remains in Vercci's treasure. Even with Soul Edge destroyed in his bad ending, things turn out well for him. Everybody else either goes insane, dies or just lose hope even in good endings (lookin' at you Siegfried).

Cervantes as per his Edge Master Mode ending becomes the owner of Soul Edge rather than following the will of the sword after defeating it in battle (he doesn't have a Cervantes boss fight because well, he's Cervantes and the one he beats at the start is an imposter Cervantes and instead runs a gauntlet against 6 characters prior to facing Soul Edge). So it's technically a good ending for him because he's a pirate. His self-sacrifice is probably more of a redemption ending though part of him regaining himself and realizing what he had become following the will of Soul Edge is integrated into the Edge Master Mode story.

@@ShiningJudgment666 Sadly, it's non-canon. But it did show there is some good in him. And I think he has a potentially good ending in Soulcalibur III. Either way, it's a Pirate's Life for him.

I find it really messed up that in Soul Calibur 4, you can perform Critical-Edges, and its not really said what happens in these brutal-overkill moves, other than the "DEATH ON THE BATTLEFIELD" achievement for performing 100. But, I hate the idea that you could possibly be killing Rock, and he has a child, why would you do this!? Kinda like how you can perform fatalities on Reptile although hes the last of his kind ; - ;

I love this comment because they still come back and the Critical Finishes were just made to introduce something new and look all flashy for the then new gen of consoles.

my guess for the good ending for voldo was"he brought the weapon back to his masters tomb his master also been odd ordered voldo to feel the blade, and ended up breaking it with the intense rubbing" so more or less a comically good ending.

In bad English, Soul Edge apparently is pronounced "Sollidge."

Actually, Soul Blade/Edge's canon ending is somewhat of a combination of Sophitia,Taki and Siegfried's endings. First Sophitia fought Cervantes and broke one of the Soul Edges which caused Cervantes to go berserk and nearly kill her. Then Taki arrives to save Sophitia and fights Cervantes and kills him before rushing to take Sophitia home to get her injuries treated. Siegfried stumbles upon Cervantes' corpse and tries to take the remaining Soul Edge which possesses Cervantes' corpse Siegfried consumed by madness at this point attacks in a frenzy and defeats Inferno in the process breaking his sword. He then claims Soul Edge which speaks to him and ultimately strikes a bargain with him to resurrect his father in exchange for Siegfried feeding it souls. And over the course of the next three years Siegfried slowly becomes Nightmare.

Very nice video. This game is amazing. And Li Long's bad ending is canon too because he really dies and no longer appears in other games. Maxi replaces him as the nunchaku-wielder.

I've always loved Cervantes good ending music, I used to play it on my old piano. I too could never get into soul caliber, soul blade is always better than it's counterparts for me.

The Holy Roman Empire later became Germany, so the Germans won't praise Siegfried for fighting against them.

So Sophitia's "good ending" has her bathing and with the fog covering her, it almost seems like she's naked. I guess you could call this "Kinda-nudity".

To be fair, her voice actress is also known for playing Hotaru Tomoe (Sailor Saturn) and both Videl and Pan in the Dragon Ball Franchise, so she's mostly used to playing characters that young. Plus Mina does act like a pre-teen girl.

Mitsurugi's outfit and blue hair in this game make him look like Takamaru.

What the... I've played this game a million times, beat the arcade a million times, and I had no idea of this. Great video as always. Those graphics and dubs tho. Holy kilobyte. And Edgemaster was a very cool mode. Having different weapons with different effects was very cool. And the music theme fo that mode is epic.

Man I remember playing this as a kid. I would just desperately mash all the buttons during the ending since I didn't know how to get anyones good ending except Mitsurugi. It always worked too. Good times...

Oh, how I loved this game when I had my ps1, it was a really difficult game back in the day, at least for me. I remember the edgemaster mode, there were some difficult challenges (for example, killing your opponent just by hitting him in the air), and when I reached a certain point on this mode, the game ALWAYS freezed out, kinda strange. Anyway, really good video dude, as always.

WOW. I used to play this game all the time back in the day and must have beaten it over 100 times. Never had any clue there were any "good" endings until today.

It looks like Rock throws himself into the sea to "see his parents again."

I love the bad ending for Siegfried, you get to see what would become Nightmare.

Explaining Voldo's ending....Even evil swords don't want to be sexually molested like that, that it chose to explode instead.

Holy crap this totally happened to me as a kid when I beat it with Siegfried and I had no idea there were good endings in the game till Soul Calibur 3 came out and had these kinds of endings again, then I learned about Soul Edge having alternate endings, but I thought it was only for Mitsurugi. WILD

23:07 Y'know what else is sad for Mitsurugi? His bad ending in Soul Blade is *canon.* (Though he _does_ manage to survive, heal from his bullet-wound, and go on to defeat Tanegashima in a rematch in SC1's events.) And, from what I just read out of curiosity, Li Long canonically *loses* against Cervantes (he was the first to challenge him before Sophitia, Taki, & later Siegfried). He apparently dies from his wounds... :'(

Hwang doesn't have an ending in SCIII, he's just a bonus character who can't be used in Tales of Souls. But I agree, some endings are terrifying... Tira's good ending is very tragic. But also canon, sadly.

I can imagine being confused not knowing about the endings. I would definitely know something was up with the amount of depressing endings, but I have no idea how people were supposed to figure this shit out. Great video by the way

Damn, I still have the PS1 version of this game somewhere. I remember getting all the good endings back in the day since I had one of those cheat books from a magazine that told you what to do. Though only ending that stuck in my mind was Sophita's good ending. Hey, I was young and it was the days before the internet!

You really should try out the other Soul Calibur games. It's a shame Soul Calibur III hasn't been re-released yet. (I kind of wonder if Li Long's bad ending is canon, since he doesn't appear in any other game besides as a bonus character in III..) Also, Soul Edge/Inferno has an ending too, but it's very short and isn't interactive. All that happens is that after defeating everyone, the swords throw themselves into the ocean for..some reason? and is discovered years later in modern times by a diver. That's it.

Actually this game used to give me nightmares when i was little. Even though I was obsessed with it...

I remwmber trying to complete the campaign mode for each character to get inferno as a playable character. Its literally impossible

I tried to cheer myself up with the cardboard cutout dojo, but the scenes are still pretty sad.

Sophitia's canon ending is much darker. She only destroyed one of the swords and when it shattered, one of its shards ended up getting stuck in her heart. She later had to pull it out to spare her kids from being subject to Soul Edge's influence, but died as a result.

EdgeMaster mode actually shows the canonical ending for each character. So depending on which character you pick, you get either the good or the bad ending. Hwang and Mitsurugi, for example get their good endings while Siegfried and Cervantes get the bad ending. =D

I have played the arcade version of this game it was REALLY fun and I don't know if it counts be but I ALWAYS got a good-ish ending like I beat it as rock and it says he retired had a kid and a overall good ending no forbodeing things or whatever just good stuff it's also worth noting you can't make choices in the arcade version but you get a good-ish ending anyways or it was because I keep spamming all the buttons And the music in the arcade version is so goddamn good it's also ALSO worth noting there is no cutscenes at all you get a picture and some text

It´s interesting that any of the woman were manipulated by the weapon SoulEdge. And one curiosity: one day I played this game with Voldo and his life bar has finished at the same time of the oponent. Result: The game says that you win the round!
