Most people who didn’t buy CCRs debut album back in 1968 when this song first came out, never heard the 8 1/2 minute version of this song. (the long version is on the album) The song was so good that the label wanted to put it out as a single, but it was way to long for radio back then, so they chopped it up & cut it down to around 3 1/2 minutes, which was still to long for radio at the time, but John Fogerty refused to shorten it any more. So all most people ever heard was the short version on the radio & in later years on classic rock stations. But I did hear the long version once in 1969 on a college FM station, they always played deep cuts back then. I also saw the 8 1/2 minute version on a college bar jukebox box once.🎶

I remember album rock, including this version of this song. CHUM FM in Toronto switched from classical music to album rock, not long before this came out, around the time I started high school. One of the first songs I remember being played was Arlo Guthrie's Alice's Restaurant. I was sitting in a friends kitchen, reading comic books, and heard this song going and going. It was my intro to album rock! There was a lot of excellent music back then and it wasn't interrupted by commercials.

@@James_Knott I remember those days as well. I was living in a college town for a while around that time. The college stations would play the whole side of an album a lot. Then around midnight you could tune in to the big watt pirate radio stations, & hear the good shit that AM radio wouldn’t play. I heard a lot of good “Underground” music then. Thanks for your comment.
This is without doubt, the very best recording of this track by this band. Very bluesy, love it.

The scene in "Apocalypse Now" that uses this song is fantastic though brief.
Most plyed tunes at Mr. Burger juke box in Elgin-- SuzieQ, Tuesday Afternoon( Moody Blues), On The Road Again ( Canned Heat) thanks for the memories!
This and their version of “I heard it through the grapevine” head my list of music from my teens. I pity those who didn’t grow through the psychedelic sixties from a music appreciation perspective.

Awesome! Not too long. Love this! I graduated from WVU in 1979. My kids love classic rock too.

When rock was a passion of what a mind created and put it to music. Sad to say nevermore and hate to see it disappear into the bygone ages.

We are, most of us, used to only having heard the “radio cut” versions of songs and not what ended up on the albums. In a Gadda da Vida for instance……

I guess you weren't around back in the late 60s & early 70s. Back then we'd often put on the headphones and turn the lights down to listen to music. Some people smoked something they weren't supposed to. 🙂 Back then, songs were often released in two versions, a short version, on a 45 RPM record for AM and a longer version on 33 1/3 album for FM. I remember when a Toronto radio station, CHUM FM, switched from classical music to album rock, just in time for this sort of music. I recall one day, when I was reading comic books in a friends kitchen, when we heard this one song keep going and going. It was Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant", which ran over 18 minutes and took the entire side of an album. Another long one is Jethro Tull's "Thick As A Brick" at 44 minutes and took both sides of an album. Both of those are on KZread. Then we get into stuff like Moody Blues, Emerson Lake and Palmer and so many others. Those were fantastic times for music. BTW, another reason for headphones was typical stereos weren't the greatest for audio quality. They were furniture pieces built more for look than sound quality. Headphones helped with that issue. I agree with that other post about In a Gadda da Vida. Fantastic music, though the vocals suck.

@@bobconnor1210 While I still have a turntable and some albums, I haven't played it in many years. In fact, I only played something once in over 30 years. I started listening to music around the time the Beatles became popular with Beatlemania and the British invasion. I've had many cassettes, but never an 8 track.

Good old "album rock". Back in those days, they'd make a short version on a 45 RPM record for AM and a long album version for FM. I was 15 when this came out.

The question is, where did you get these isolated tracks? I knew about the existance of Mogg files extracted from the Guitar Hero games that included CCR songs. But this is certainly new

@@lessismore6062 Yes, I know the 8 minute version is on the debut album. I am referring to the MIX itself. The original one had lead guitar and bass hard-panned to the left with rhythm guitar, drums, cabasa, tambourine and vocals to the right (there's a section where vocals are panned to the left). But on this remix lead guitar is on the left, rhythm on the right with drums, bass, tambourine, cabasa and vocals in the center, no hard-panning. But after further listening, I assume that this person took the MOGG files that contain the isolated tracks from Rock Band 3 DLC (which is 4 minutes long like the single version) and combined it with the old mix
