There's an old superstition that if you put a lit candle in the window when a family member sets out on a journey, they will certainly come home again if the candle is never allowed to go out. Candle can be replaced if necessary. I interpret this song as referring to a traveller maybe a soldier in Vietnam longing to get home.

I grew up on the great music of the 60's-70's. CCR has always been one of my favorites. They don't have a bad song! John Fogerty has one of the most unique & recognizable voices around. All their songs are great - "Proud Mary", "Born On The Bayou", "Bad Moon Rising", "Lodi", "Green River", "Commotion", "Night Time Is The Right Time", "Down On The Corner", "Fortunate Son", "Cotton Fields", "Midnight Special", "Travelin' Band", "Who'll Stop The Rain", "Up Around the Bend", "Run Through The Jungle", "Lookin' Out My Back Door", "Long As I Can See the Light", "Suzie Q", "I Heard It Through The Grapevine", "I Put A Spell On You", "Sweet Hitch-Hiker" etc.

At one point CCR was considered the best Rock band in the world. Such amazing talent. Raw, powerful, soulful, amazing ! I always thought it was unique that there true musical influences and style could not have been further away from the part of the country where they lived and grew up which was the Bay Area of San Francisco. Regardless of how it came about, we can just give our thanks to god above for the gift of these amazing artists and the music.

An absolute killer Blues. From memory it was one of CCR's last recordings and written about Fogarty's desire to get home after a tour, and the draw to get back on the road

He has a saxophone reed stuck in his throat. I know it makes no sense but it's the only way I can describe his voice. It's so distinctive. And then here comes the sax just to solidify my point. That sound Lodi and a few others. And most of John's solo stuff I could listen to in repeat for the rest of my life.

I love CCR. This one may never have been one of their big hits, but it is absolutely my favorite song by them. It is just so beautiful, and John Fogerty's voice was perfect. I could listen to this one on repeat for hours! Glad you liked it. Going to search now to see if you ever did a video singing it like you mentioned.

Love CCR. Never knew who they were, just loved their music. Always thought they were inspired by Motown (since they covered Heard it Through the Grapevine, Proud Mary and others).. but then again they had their own 'sound'... Suzie Q, Bad Moon Rising.. were all 'theirs'...and they were so so talented. I never knew why they quit making music...

I had a similar take. I always viewed it as a story of life, of society. We are born in to this beautiful, perfect world. As we grow we are set out in the world and we lose our way, sometimes we stumble through the darkness. But as long as that light is there to guide us back to a place of good, we will always find our way. Long as I can see the light.

I love CCR. I have heard other reactors compare Jimmy Barnes to John Fogarty. I never saw that until I heard the Cold Chisel version of this song just recently. It was released on their album called Covered in 2011. Jimmy's vocals stuck to the original and were mighty fine, but it's the band that blows CCR out of the water for me.

I grew up to CCR. My parents had a record player that would hold multiple records. I heard everything from Willie Nelson to ABBA. CCR has always stuck in my brain. Lynyrd Skynyrd would be another great one to check out. I would start with the older stuff first.
