    The Rumble in the Jungle was one of the most famous boxing matches of all time, between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman. It was in the African nation of Zaire in 1974. It was common to give huge, important matches an exciting title to advertise the fight, and since a lot of people in the West associate Africa with jungles, this was the name chosen.

    10:16 The Rumble in the Jungle was a real-life boxing match between Muhammed Ali and George Foreman held in 1974 in Zaire, Africa. It's a little weird whenever the "Rockyverse" peppers in real events that occured in boxing. In the Rockyverse, Apollo Creed is supposed to be a fictionalized version of Muhammed Ali, as the character was heavily inspired by the real-life boxer. But then the movies make passing references to Ali or his fights, and it makes you wonder if Ali also existed as a totally separate person from Apollo within the continuity of the films.

  • @wasabi5338

    Yeah I think Ali is a seperate person from Apollo despite Apollo being based on Ali. Rocky is based on Joe Frazier (inspired by Chuck Wepner) yet Joe Frazier appeared in Rocky 1 in a cameo, goofing around with Apollo during the fight introduction.

    I agree with the viewpoint about the Drago family. They were completely cast out by the Soviet elite society, which set off chains of events of continuous downhill life for the duo. And of course Viktor trying to so hard to impress his mother and gain her approval and love. That scene where Viktor, with his agonizing face, saw the empty chairs after his mother and her assistants left just added more emotional trauma to the physical and mental pain that he's already suffering. Another scene that makes me very emotional is when Ivan threw the towel into the ring to stop the fight, as he came to the realization that Viktor is his son who's the only person he truly loves, and not just some fighting machine like how the Soviets trained him back then, and didn't want him to be beaten to death, a callback to something which he did to Apollo. This movie I would say is better than the first one.

    The family dynamic of this movie reminded me of Warrior. Tom Hardy, Joel Edgerton and Nick Nolte as two brothers, two sons and a father and their relationship set against the backdrop of Mixed Martial Arts competition. Rocky and Adonis stories came full circle

    Totally agree with you on Drago family. It seemed cruel but more real. Surprisingly my biggest take away of the movie. Well acted and directed, to the point I was pulling for Drago. @@MrKeychange Agreed. In Rocky 4 I was like, OK this guy is just a straight up dick. But now, because of hearing stories of these Soviet athletes and how they were treated. Maybe he was taken from his parents at age 5 and basically tortured mentally and physically until you ended up with this brain washed monster named Drago. I would feel sorry for him. And disgust for those that made him.

    My favorite of the 3 Creed movies. Has very much heart and they give such a great backstoryto Drago. Very rewarding if u are a Rocky fan, not just some random fight against a opponent. Adding a Baby and family to Adonis also increased his stakes by much. Got teary when Drago did throw in the white towel where Rocky wasn’t allowed in Rocky 4, great callback.

    On the DVD there is a GREAT deleted scene that takes place after the last fight. Donnie walks into Viktor's dressing room, sits next to him and says something like "you can't base your life on just one fight." Then Rocky comes in, comes face to face with Ivan, and Ivan gives him a look that I understand as saying "yeah, everything is cool." Its a great scene and it actually help the next film makes more sense.

    Yes, holding is illegal in boxing. Boxers will clinch each other during a fight, which is hugging their opponent to disrupt their attacks and to catch their own breath. It is against the rules, but it's up to the referee's discretion to enforce it. The ref will usually get in between the boxers to break up the clinch, but a boxer who is excessively clinching during a fight can be penalized with a loss of points. The ref may even end the fight if a boxer is clinching because they are clearly too tired or too injured to continue the fight. But Drago was fighting dirty there when he held Adonis' arm so he could punch him in the ribs.

  • @Humstuck
    @Humstuck Жыл бұрын

    This movie is punching in the feels over and over. The newborn who might have a hearing problem. Rocky and his son's relationship. Creed proposal, loss and getting over his dad's shadow and the Drago's subplot. That's nuts. Its hard to tell which one is my favorite between 1 and 2 because 1 builds Rocky and Adonis relationship to have a very good foundation and I loved that but 2 packs a lot more into it so I guess 2 edges it out.

    Ivan pushes Viktor so hard his whole life to be a cold hearted killer who could only get his approval/love by winning at all costs. Despising weakness and like Rocky said "He was raised by hate". But then at the end, when Ivan realizes that Viktor is willing to die for his approval, his parental instincts make him throw in the towel. Saying to me (a single father/coach of 2 very athletic sons), to stop hurting my son. That scene absolutely broke me. I'd love to see their story continue.

    Did you like the Hogan thing? Maybe it's just me, but I feel the scene disrespects the franchise. Hogan, The robot, The speech in Russia, not fighting Tommy Gun in the ring and cutting the extended Paulie scene in #6 are my only complaints in the entire franchise.

  • @ToniMcGinty

    @@MrKeychange It's not that I liked it. It's just that it's a "friendly" fight. I think it's quite apt to illustrate the circus Rocky's life has become, as one could argue about the robot. It's not about liking them. It's about realising Rocky has lost his course and needs to get back to basics. As for the speech, it just fit in with the times. And I don't mind the street fight. It seems more plausible than any legit fight (ironically given Rocky Balboa). And it would have made more sense with the original ending, where Rocky died. I'm totally with you on the deleted scene in Rocky Balboa, though.

    There's a lot more going on here. So Stallone certainly made a lot of money from Rocky, but never owned it. The original producer, whether or not he does a dang thing with any of the movies since 1, owns all rights, names, merchandising , franchise etc. Rights, and has made billions, tho Stallone has done almost all the work, including almost dying twice. Thats why at the end of the fight, rocky says, its all urs now. Stallone is walking away from Rocky. And he and Dolph Lundgren (drago) were thinking of a spin-off with drago and his son, but no one's sure what is happening there, because of the original jerk producer. Pro tip... Stallone and the mom, were one time dating or married in real life, i think they had a kid or 2! So we'll see if Stallone has anything left for a rocky or Drago spinoff!

    There in Russia. Cheating, you either get points taken off or thrown out the fight.
