Creativity HEALS the Soul ~ Loneliness

I'm all alone this week, no James and I'm lonely. Such a big contrast to recent last week's video and tbh, I'm sad and lonely. Thanks especially this week for keeping me company. Don't forget to let me know your book recommendations in the comments too for a future video. Try to keep your lights shining bright & your teacups full! BIGGEST Softest Hugs, Wendy. Xx

I got a very large book from the library. Old Masters. It went way back in time and told about each one and gave a lot of information that I didn’t know about them. It was an interesting read. Also a book on Matisse. That was eye opening too. Now I will look for the War of Art. I loved this chatting video. Inhale, exhale. Thank you for sharing with us. ❤ And now the Pinkola Estes ones. They sound interesting.

People who don't make art often don't know that most of us are, at any given time, facing a series of deadlines. Catching up the small life-maintenance tasks like cleaning and tidying up the living space gives such a feeling of balance, like spinning plates on the ends of sticks! Thanks for the reminder to breathe- we needed that!

I absolutely love the book “Life Is Better When You Draw It” by Koosje Koene. It’s a brand new book and it talks about making art as a daily practice, I’ve been so inspired by it! I absolutely love it and recommend it for beginners and experienced artists alike 😊 I was wondering, Wendy, if you ever considered writing a book, either instructional (like drawing fairies) or inspirational, as you always have so much wisdom to share with your followers every week ❤️😘😘😘

After I started studying Buddhism I became aware I go through most of my day holding my breath or shallow breathing. I put a Mindfulness Bell app on my phone to remind me to breathe in and breathe out. It has made a profound difference in being aware of the tension in my body. Love your videos. Thank for for the reminder to do the things which nurture us. I am rewatching this video, and this message is one I needed to hear right now. Extreme fatigue is so debilitating, and can make it difficult to focus on what we need to reenergize properly. It is so joyous to have a hot drink and sit with you for a bit. I find it soothing and comforting to just curl up with an art friend, one of my "tribe". You are a valued addition to my life (and one of the most inspiring people on YT). Much love and light.

The balance between inhale and exhale caught my attention. Wendy, many times I have to tell myself mentally to breath in deeply and exhale slowly as I notice I find myself breathing too shallow. You are a very special lady who has helped me many times with all you positive reinforcement in my lowest days and my up days too. There are times you touch on topics that have brewed in my mind but had no one to voice what I’m feeling and to let me know all will be okay or it’s okay to feel what I’m experiencing at the time. Loneliness comes to all of us, it’s all on how we handle those feelings. I’ve found that sometimes a good, long soak, then crawl into bed with a favorite show and fall asleep works for me. Or, taking my dog for a walk, cooking a good and healthy meal, or getting lost in a journal page. I live alone so the loneliest time can be at night but that doesn’t happen as often these days. While I do keep up with current events I restrict the time watching news as it’s so depressing most of the time. I too, make an effort to keep my kitchen in proper order and most times make my bed everyday. Something about putting a good face in the day when that simple thing is done each morning. Mundane duties need to be done just so things do not get out of control. I just told my youngest grands that daily duties need to be done with a happy heart even though they are not something we all like to do. Have a beautiful week my dear friend. James will be home soon and a small time away always makes the coming together that much better. You are so right when you tell us not everything in social media is what it seems, people tend to forget that… each relationship has its ups and downs. You are a lucky lady as he a lucky man. Love between to people is such a beautiful thing. I just saw and older couple walking toward the grocery store the other afternoon and he was being so attentive to his lady and making sure she was walking safely next to him and holding hands. It made me tear up and wished I had someone like that too. 74 now and alone most of my years. Love come and gone but blessed anyway. Peace and love my sweet friend.

My favourite book so far: Art & Fear (Observations on the perils and rewards of artmaking) by David Bayles & Ted Orland. My favourite quote from that book: "Adams was right: to require perfection is to invite paralysis. The pattern is predictable: as you see error in what you have done, you steer your work toward what you imagine you can do perfectly. You cling ever more tightly to what you already know you can do - away from risk and exploration, and possibly further from the work of your heart." Thank you to you and your channel - very inspirational and entertaining!

"Loneliness" - Ive found a remedy for her. Ive been intentionally setting time to sit with the one inside who feels lonely. I ask her how old she is. I ask her if she'd like some company. We usually color together. I bring out coloring books that make her excited. I sit and enjoy her love of colors. We play for hours. Loneliness dissipates and after months of practicing this...I can honestly say my "Loneliness" has dramatically reduced. This is an inner child technique and Ive been reading a lot of Bethany Webster to help me access the inner child and learning so much! Sending big hugs to your inner little! xOOO love from hawaii

Two things called my attention in your video today. The fact that you said that it’s ok to feel sad when someone we love is not with us (you were referring to your daughter, I believe), because that means we love them. And that called my attention because we’re supposed to be happy all the time, when sadness is part of life. And the second thing is that you mentioned doing those small chores (that sometimes are so boring) sooner so that we don’t get home to a untidy space, which is even worse. I think that’s a wonderful piece of advice. I do that too, it saves me many hours and much unpleasant moments, because making the bed or doing the washing up when it’s needed is so rewarding afterwards when we need time to ourselves. Regarding books, all related to abstract art inspire me. Thanks for keeping me company. See you soon. Lots of love 💙❤️🖤💚💛💗♥️💜🧡

I 100% feel this about just discovering things now that I'm 50 (just had my 50th birthday last week!) that I feel like should have been taught, told, or somehow figured out by now. Even though I think these things would have helped me immensely when I was younger, I wonder if I would have treasured the learning of them like I do now. It's really rather nice to still be learning things that are so simple and basic. Life sometimes beats us over the head with the hard lessons when we're younger, so it's nice to be getting to this stage where we're able to learn these gentle lessons with grace. We're not only more aware of self-care, but of realizing that little things like making the bed or tidying an area are self-care for our future selves. What a gift! 💝 As far as book recommendations, this one is not so much about creativity as it is about art advocacy: Why Our Schools Need the Arts. While intended for educators and people in the education system, I found it an incredibly inspiring and motivating book for artists that counters all of the nonsense catchphrases we're programmed with about art not being "a real job" or "starving artists" or what have you. This approaches the subject with studies, statistics, and science that prove that art is beneficial to human development, mental health, and society as a whole. HIGHLY recommend for anyone struggling with an inner voice that is not their own (or an external one) telling them that art isn't a worth their time. Very good for helping anyone wanting to verbalize to others in defense of their craft or just a reminder to one's self that they are on the right path.

It transforms the space in the room. :) I read "Autobiography of a Yogi" in the late 80s when my yoga teacher recommended it. It was one the first "spiritual" books I read. It's a classic. At the moment I'm re-reading "Big Magic" by Elizabeth Gilbert (of Eat, Pray, Love" Fame). It's all about the creative process and I find it really inspiring, especially if I get stuck. :)

Hello Wendy, Wow I read women who run with the wolves years ago and I can't remember it now so I'll have to find a pre loved one and read it again , I get my journaling and some art inspiration from you my friend, I crochet, knit , sew , draw , and do what ever different craft off u tube I can find ..or what speaks to me , I love your vlogs so much for so many reasons , you help fill my cup of loneliness for the beautiful country where I was born ..Nottingham England , I have lived in Australia since I was 16yrs old am now 70 and I've never been able to afford to visit home, I'm retired so home stays don't really work as I'm here all the time lol, but you've just taught me that I'm allowed to do absolutely nothing if I want to ( didn't even think to do that 🤔) but am going to plan some now .. I've been sewing lots of Christmas gifts as my wife and I have 6 children between us ( she has 2 sons, I have 3 sons abd 1 daughter ) we have 18 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren so it gets very exspensive with birthdays through the year and rediculious at Christmas !! , thiught I'd share with you that while at the machine sewing or cutting out I listen to audio books , it helps my mind to not wonder ( which I don't need when sewing unlike when doing art ) plus keeps me company , I can feel lonely even with my wife here all the time , I totally understand that need for alone time ( it's so different from feeling lonely) ... you so inspire me to stretch , eat better , share my feelings on paper , and I made a journal with your encouragement and I love it , it's a bit wonky but it makes it all the more appealing and beautiful...thank you wendy for helping me shine my light with more confidence , and have the courage to be just me and not worry what others think of me ..oh thank you for your door table idea, I got 2 of the extending legs from Ikea, took the legs off a table I found on the side of the Rd years ago , we screwed them on and got the right height for cutting fabric and other stuff , I found a fabulous adjustable chair second hand , so I think of you every time I stand or sit at it ...thank you afain Wendy, so look forward to your vlogs ( it's like having a visit with a close friend, which I have next to non these days lol, ) sorry I'm waffling now Lol.but bless you for making my days ..have a beautiful day/ weekend . Love from Australia 🌺❣️🌼🌺❣️🌼🌺❣️🌼

I have also received so much from reading Autobiography Of A Yogi. He takes you there, to be sure! Susan Cain's 2 books Quiet and Bittersweet are wonderful. Also, Women Who Run With The Wolves...well, I see you just put that book on the video!! Ha! Love it!

I must say I am really enjoying a bit of your Wendy Wisdom, it is quite healing! I feel for you with the loneliness and I can totally relate to it. I wonder if it is more difficult for you because maybe you got used (for a time) to being so close with James on a daily basis in the van, and now that you only see him at weekends it must feel like quite a contrast. I used to work as a beautician before the pandemic but in the pandemic my business went bust. As you can image , as a beautician I spent most of my days chatting! And now that I don’t have that in my life anymore I have really felt a sense of loss. I don’t feel I want to go back to being a beautician because I do feel that phase of my life is completed really, but the aloneness of life afterwards can feel quite a contrast to life before. Sending you big hugs and watching your videos feels like a cup of tea and a chat with a friend ☕️🍰💕 xxxx

You are the second person I know who has recommended The Women who run with the Wolves and its been on my TBR list for a long time, but it was so expensive it's had to stay there. Anyway I just went and had a look and not only was it in the black Friday sale at a better price than usual but, not only that, they also had some second hand ones that worked out just a few pounds cheaper than the sale price. It was obviously meant to be. So I treated myself 😊 Thank you Wendy. I hope you have a wonderful week, sending virtual hugs 💜

Dear Wendy, This is the third watch of this, I think I wanted to revisit this video to ponder on it some more. Is James back yet? lol I think you might like the book, "Unicorns of Kilimanjaro." A large, old book full of photos of white unicorns with pretty trailing flowers over their horn in the green ranges and jungle. I am enjoying the spirit animal cards that you recommended. Funny how cards get picked out over and over. I just let the deck sit in my hand, and where the natural split is, I take this lower card. I have enjoyed thinking about times to slow down and times to speed up. I like the 8 card spread, and I find them in the same way. In bed now, after a day out we had a nice pub lunch, I'm getting better. It has been nearly 5 weeks in bed, give or take two or three days. It was tiredness, fatigue, chest infection, ear infection, and endometriosis, with peri-menopause. What a mix! I suppose my body is just needing the rest. Venturing out, hopefully to build up to walking again, will look forward to doing some art. Wrote over 50,000 words on my novel, while crook! So that was a great distraction. I convert hours into words too, so doing 8-10 hour days on it. It is for November, for NANOWRIMO, novel writing month. Laptop in the bed office as you call it. I need to get my November and December back, to get back to my art again, I don't feel like doing Christmas. I still feel like I haven't caught up things from March and September. I said to mum, Patrick and my best friend, I want to be a grinch. Paint myself green, not do a thing for anyone else, very unlike me...perhaps it is just the tiredness talking. I can' t help others if I have no cup with to fill. You say to give from the saucer, but the cup is empty, and the saucer isn't around! Listening to our bodies, being intune with a small action, and then the feeling, as you say, cleaning one little area. I tend to feel all the floods etc the bonkers now bit of the world, as you call it. It is taking a while, I'm not worried. Perhaps it is a C19 hanging around thing too that I had months back? My usual fatigue is often just at the end of a week, say the last 3 days... Thanks for letting me know about inhaling and exhaling, will try and find the book about it. Want to work on my Spring works, from September. Branches with flowers, against the sky. Lavender, jarosite opaque sky, serpentine genuine leaves, burnt umber branches, almond blossoms, buff titanium, and serpentine, A3, with taped edge to make it a square. I have drawn it up months ago! Love to you both, In kindred spirit, Eliza Australia 23rd of November 2022 7:59pm bed office.

Hi Wendy. thank you for this video. I look forward to each and every video from you. I hear you when you miss your loved ones. Both my daughters are overseas in England with their families and I live in South Africa, so it's a long haul to visit them and very expensive so I don't get to see them as often as I would like to. Also the few friends that I have, have emigrated overseas to be with their children. You gave me hope to get back to being creative and I am learning to get back to it everyday.

Creativity helps me survive crisis periods in life. And I'm not just talking about drawing. But also knitting, making decor for my house. Sometimes you just need to switch from obsessive thoughts. And creativity like nothing else is suitable for this.

Thank you for sharing you thoughts and feelings with us in this video. You have a way of speaking about things that I am thinking, feeling or experiencing as well. I was touched by how you mentioned that in your 50's you thought you would have known different things or would have remembered different things, and I too in my 50's feel that way as well . I thought that I would have known so much more than I do at 56, honestly I feel that I have so much more to learn now that I am older, than I did when I was younger. I am grateful your videos, your perspective and mostly your honesty. You are an amazing lady! Have a great week.

Sometimes I feel like I live inside my head a lot, so the every day things sometimes get neglected. To get around this I've created a tracking system, because similar to you some things feel like a waste of time, or i just don't think about it, or they're just not in the forefront of my mind, but doing them makes me FEEL better and makes me more focused on the tasks that I love doing. I include things like drinking a litre of water, meditating for 10 min... they're just little prompts because I tend not to remember these things, even though they're important to me. As I complete them, I tick them off like a to do list.

Misfit land 😍 Last week especially I had been feeling very lonely and it was funny to see the title of your video this week is so in line with how I am currently feeling. It's hard being on your own all the time. Especially when trying to make big or even small decisions on your own. Feeling rather a lot of weight on my shoulders. I did my little job tonight which I know will make me feel better later when it's not piling up and becoming overwhelming or just making my space nice for later appreciation. Everything is balance like you say. I think everyone I know has been going through a period of overwhelming life stuff just being too much. I'm looking forward to things calming down a bit. I've had a complete night and day off and feel a bit better already. Thank you for the little reminder!

Hi, Wendy! So delighted to watch your video and I totally get what you are saying about needing a stabilizing practice, or one can so easily get behind and depressed and it just becomes a downward spiral. Your chat encouraged me to set a wake up time, get my coffee and do some restorative yoga before heading out for a quick walk in nature (hopefully catching the sunrise). Then straight into my creative space immediately after breakfast, and work on my homemade journals. I create when I have no words (for life and feeling lost and overwhelmed). And if I wait too late in the day to create, “life” gets in the way and I just don’t do it. BTW, your geraniums are gorgeous! Love your fairy girls and thanks for sharing your day with us. Take care~! Lisa from Texas
