I run my mains and subs like you do. It’s fantastic. Just like aux fed subs where you can turn on and off and levels from each source with the convenience of having that information readily available on each channel.
It’s that simple - yessir
I use my main 1 as an actual main and 2, 3 and 4 as FX sends which are in turn sent to aux channels 6, 7 and 8.

There‘s a main link setting in the audio preferences that can be set to 1 > 2-4
