Behringer WING 48-Ch. Digital Mixer | Overview and Demonstration

Музыка

Order your Behringer WING from Guitar Center:
www.guitarcenter.com/Behringe...
Behringer's WING is a powerful 48-channel digital mixer designed for use in the most demanding live sound settings.
Featuring a 10" touch screen, three banks of customizable faders, and plenty of other assignable real-time controls, WING is designed to let your mix take flight. Whether you're setting levels, tweaking a compressor setting, or trying to find the right frequency to boost or cut in your EQ, WING offers complete and intuitive control. Behringer has also developed a cross-platform app known as WING Co-Pilot, which gives you wireless access to the mixer right from your mobile device.
Unlike other mixers, WING treats your audio as a "Source" rather than an "Input". WING allows you to name each Source (Ex. "Bass Drum") and even assign helpful icons. This makes it much easier for grouping and effects sends, not to mention assigning to your faders.
When setting up your mixes you'll find plenty of sonic sculpting at your fingertips, thanks to its diverse selection of EQs, compressors, limiters, reverbs, delays amp models and more. WING even includes tape saturation for when your mix needs a little warmth or glue.
Behringer's WING is extremely expandable, with the ability to handle up to 374 inputs and 374 outputs. Get more sources to WING by connecting digital stage boxes through its 3 AES50 SuperMAC networking ports. Connect it to a computer for up to 48 channels in or out via USB. Additional digital audio connections provide even further expandability.

I'm thinking of buying it too! But I have some doubts If you given that you already have it could solve some doubts! 1) Does the purchase already include an audio interface? 2) Are the converters good? 3) Latency times in live recording? 4) Does it have DSP technology as well as internal effects? 5) I would like to use it together with Cubase 11 to possibly exploit its internal power so as not to stress the CPU of my computer, as if it were a digital mixer but also full controller is it feasible or do you need to buy other expansions or have a powerful computer? 6) Having already purchased some plugins, can I use them while recording and mixing from Wing? 7) Is the Wing live card included by default or must it be purchased separately? Thanks!

@JK COVINGTON well, there are Midas preamps and "Midas preamps". Behringer products have the latter, and Midas M32 products are closer to them rather than to real Midas preamps. The highly-desireable Disney-exclusive and all that are on Midas PRO desks, new Midas Heritage-D, analog Midas consoles. Those are Steinway, and this isn't even Yamaha. Still, preamps are definitely not the most important part of Wing sound: we have 8 (e-i-g-h-t) preamps on board, this is for ambience mic, RTA mic, extra talkbacks, whatever. Nobody is doing the show on these, real inputs are on stagebox, and we have AES50 built-in, Dante card available (or will be available soon), so we can get ANY preamps we want. Same goes for A/D conversion, it will happen on stagebox, so you can pick what sounds best. Important part of Wing sound is its internal processing, and in this department Wing kicks x32-series' ass (including M32 too): it has five times more processing power, and software is 7 years newer than what x32 has (plus new "premium" effects might be good, didn't listen to those yet), so we have all reasons to assume it will sound better.

It sounds very good and the quality of FX emulation is impressive, but being limited as a live audio engineer to 12 faders per bank is crippling in a full band scenario- however, wouldn’t hesitate to use it as the front end for a DAW. Mixed thoughts about this console. First of all, touch screen - finally! Visually, looks nice but a bit like a toy. Also an excuse to trimming the fat by taking away material, I wouldn’t want to lean on it out of a flightcase and custom case now needed for its new design. More money. Don’t like how there’s less inputs and outputs on the back, forcing a new owner to buy the outboard digital stage box. Plus the Midas preamps become obsolete when you use Behringer’s S16/32 so what’s the point. Nice amount of FX, more inputs, outputs etc always a plus. No mention of a USB plug in so how do I load show files or save them to stick.

  • @petterrong1590

I've rarely come across anyone using X32 and M32 without a digital stagebox. What added most to the cost of M32 was the preamps, and if you end up using stageboxes, they almost become obsolete. Me and many others who commented when Behringer reached out for feedback for a potential new mixer, asked for them to get rid of most of the inputs and outputs to reduce the cost. Luckily they left some of the inputs, because many tend to have some kind of input (wireless mics, PC-audio, talkback mic etc.) closer to where the mixer is placed, and because they got rid of the 8-block routing, you can use them however you want. I think this is the perfect compromise.

Well, there are two answers to this question: 1. Yes, you can using additional equipment, it might be quite pricey though. Options are stagebox with Ultranet output and P16 switch plus P16-M monitor mixers, or HUB4/DP48 products from Midas that work over AES50 protocol. 2. If you need 32 _different_ mixes, you most likely are doing something wrong. Work put in making so many different mixes likely won't pay off and if groups of musicians would share a mix -- each of them will get better mix in the end. If you're asking about setting up monitoring for 32 different musicians when some of them listen to same mix -- yes, that's totally possible and isn't hard at all.

It takes no more processing power to put 3 inserts on one channel than 3 inserts on 3 channels. Also, forcing ppl to use an effect bay to get a graphic EQ on each monitor out is ridiculous. Even the x-air has a native graph on the outs. I hope you guys fixed that blaring oversight.

I just purchased this unit new and I gotta say... I'm extremely concerned with the lack of explanation about DAW integration (Logic for me) and the fact that there is NO USERS MANUAL or PHONE SUPPORT. These two things kinds scare the H*ll out of me. Please @guitarcenter and @behringer open your mouth about these two issues. I made my purchase before I fully realized it doesn't have DAW support or any kind of operations manual or phone support. I ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO WAIT if either of these matter to you.

Dude Behringer posted a ton of videos on very specific things about Wing. Even idiot could fly with this console (no pun intended). Even by looking this video made by Guitar Center made me understand it. But even if it didn't i mean this is a mixing console. Yes it's advanced but all the fun goes to you when discovering everything. I mean you act like missing manual is a missing feature. It's not. Categorized videos are available and IMHO video is way more convenient to learn from then reading and looking at the pages and pages of manual. But they if you are scared by missing manual then don't buy this product. Plenty of other ones to choose from, with manuals..

Are you really that lost that you buy a 3000$ mixer without basic knowledge about mixers and daws ? Its has complete daw support, the fact that you're stupid and cant figure out basic midi controls doesnt take away the capabilities of the machine. Just call their support or pay up a real professional to setup this beast for you, the fact that you're out here in youtube comments asking for help is the cherry on the top of the "a fool and his money" routine.

My thought, too slow to setup and too many possible places to screw up. I've worked at venues, and the bands change every night. Time is a valuable resource, I haven't got time to setup the inputs to faders etc. Ch 1 is ch1 and that's it. As a touring band's board this probably works great, but for me - no.

these serve different purposes. Digital mixing desk like this one is most often for live applications, not for studio. No matter what Behringer says, yeah you can use it in studio, but why would you? Exactly for reasons you mentioned. Plus it's just 48kHz. Live, on the other hand, you can't mix 48 channels show in your DAW using 8 or 16-fader device. It's just not practical, workflow with these is not fast enough, controls aren't accessible enough. And I didn't even mention performance and price of PC running DAW. Ooops, I just did.

You have the ability to use 4 Stereo Master Buses. I use one for L/R Mains, one set to mono for my Subs, one for Broadcast, and one for Record. Those are then routed to Matrices to be distributed out as needed! This allows me to only send what I need to the appropriate mixes (MIX MINUS). Only low end channels to subs, crowd mics to Broadcast, etc...

Three technical advances released at least three years ago, so far have kept me from considering Behringer digital boards: 1- No 96 kHz sampling rate "Bob Katz also said: Yes and Daniel Weiss says it is easier to get filters with less coloration at higher sampling rates. This fact is just owing to the second half of Nyquist with the "infinite time" thing for perfect conversion." From: www.gearslutz.com/board/music-computers/599128-difference-between-44-1k-96k-insane.html Also in a shorter form mentioned at Bob's own site and writing; www.digido.com/ufaqs/jitter-digital-audio-cables-2496/ 2- No Thunderbolt 3 The below 3 ns roundtrip latency says it all. www.ultrabookreview.com/10579-laptops-thunderbolt-3/ 3- No ESS-9038 SABRE DACs (from 2016) www.esstech.com/index.php/en/news/newsroom/ess-technology-introduces-sabre-pro-series-dacs-setting-new-performance-bar-unprecedented-140-db-dynamic-range/ ///Uli should have learnt those three concepts already, but it seems with his synthesizers and the rest, he has still to come to full terms with DIGITAL development, particularly so in digital connectors. Probably will in some 5 or so years more, let's give him the benefit of doubt and keep waiting until then...

96khz is an audiofool myth. Most people can not hear above 20khz, and a lot of people, myself included can not hear above 16k, not that I would want to anyway. And any tiny difference in coloration is so small that you would not notice it anyway. Thunderbolt 3 simply is not very widespread and USB is more than good enough for audio as the actual amount of data that you are transferring is pretty small. Fancy dacs are yet another audiofool meme, they simply do not make a difference and 140db of dynamic range looks nice on a spec sheet but has no actual use in real life.

Nacho (and Bob) make good points however, at 48k you can get audible artifacts from your processors, filters, etc not being able to 'Low Pass Out' the frequencies originally above 24kHz. By forcing them to downsample before LPF they can be audible, akin to higher order Harmonics, but in reverse. Instead of being a harmonic function (multiple) of the fundamental, they are an inverse function (root) and the frequencies sound rather unpleasant, difficult to mix around, and difficult to remove. I trust my meters as much as my ears, and I dont SRC on the fly, only after mastering. Ymmv

For recording wise, studio installation it's not bad at all. I think behringer don't see how people used older generation. You see that producers became more expensive lately. If go bigger, wider desk, better look on different brands.

Plus they normally make really cheap stuff, perfect for the people that dont want to kill someone in order to get a piece of gear...
