@@TheEntropySystem I'm thinking that Oz might be in charge of some kind of control system in his room that is mostly automated that runs the city, I know some systems, mine included, have a type of control center for the brain and memories and possibly for other things dealing with the body. From my experience the control center or mechanism isn't an actual individual like all our alters but is like a kind of OS that some of the alters in the system use to help the brain process memories and information, I'm sure the type of control center is different from system to system and can probably look or be interacted with differently depending on which system is using it. It would take too much effort for an alter to be running a whole city nonstop, unless that alter is an actual representation of the control center, which could be the case I suppose but they would probably be a very unique type of alter.

For some reason the inner world functioning reminds me of the quote from "The Essence of Alan Watts Vol. 4: Death" (1975) "What I am saying then is just because you don’t know how you manage to be conscious, how you manage to grow and shape your body, doesn’t mean that you’re not doing it. Equally, if you don’t know how the universe shines the stars, constellates the constellations, or galactifies the galaxies - you don’t know but that doesn’t mean that you aren’t doing it just the same way as you are breathing without knowing how you breathe."

Every time you talk about the inner world it reminds me of a book called "Seraphina" and how the main character has an inner "garden" that she has to tend to every day, with different characters that have different levels of awareness. She needs to enter in order to check on how these characters are doing because they each have their designated place in the garden and they sometimes wander away from it. I think they are also related to "suppressed memories". I don't think I can say any more without spoiling the book but the more I think about the more it sounds like it is a representation of DID. It could just be a coincidence but I think you should check it out, the book is awesome anyways (and it's about dragons!). Have a nice day :)

To be honest I'm so jealous of systems that are able to have any kind of permanent NPCs in the first place, because we can't. I've tried and they're always very, *very* temporary. Me and another alter have called them 'projections' because like projected images, they don't/can't exist on their own, they will disappear as soon as nobody is purposefully making sure they exist and react to things aka 'projecting' them. We have heard or seen some kind of a common bird from far away sometimes and stuff like that's sadly about it when it comes to having animals in the nature our inner world majorly consists of, it's just very empty feeling.

FINK1tty I’m a singleton and can’t truly empathize with having a system but what your describing reminds me of when I’m lucid dreaming. Most of the time I just roll my eyes and realize, oh, this is a dream, it’s really weird, but I just have to wait until it ends. But sometimes when I’m lucky I can create people, or get them to do something, or create an object. But it takes all of my concentration and it’s usually really draining. Sometimes the thing I create will stay with me until the end of my dream or it will sort of melt or crumble, especially if it’s an object I’m holding. I’ve looked at a lot of DID videos from all types of systems and the inner world sounds so much like the unconscious made somewhat conscious. The creation, the uncertainty of some spaces and people, the various themes and ideas seem like being in a state of dreaming. It’s also like 3-ish in the morning and I might be projecting a bit but I’ve been thinking about this for a long time.

Okay so omg We had a pretty big progression, though again we're polyfragmented so I kind of just assumed it progressed because we continued getting new people so obviously the headspace would evolve with it. Disclaimer; A lot of "new people" were really just people in other layers of the system coming to the Main layer, the hub, the one that controls the body more, idk how to explain that. Anyways, we started out with just a living room and it had about maybe 10 people in it. When we grew to 30, it became a small house with a hallway stretching to everyone's rooms. Then it became a bigger house with more hallways. And then it became a house inside a neighbourhood that we can go out into to do things, buy things (you know when you mentioned not having money in the inner world I kind of just... I'm not sure if we do either unless it's part of a daydream? We maladaptive daydream as well, so it's basically just the same as going to the bathroom in movies, unless it's important enough for the daydream money doesn't exist.) I kind of also thought the whole going into the "outside" (what we call the NPC land of headspace since it feels more like Alters live inside the house and NPCs live outside) was just our maladaptive daydreaming and it was some form of comfort, but like it's so nice to know other people also do it and it's not some weird thing. We're pretty sure it's not all md anymore and only the active daydreaming is vs the fact NPCs exist passively and there's a world outside. Though because we daydream and we're polyfragmented, an alter can get attached to an NPC enough that when something happens and we do end up forming someone new, it's just the NPC going from Daydream Character to Full Blooded Alter, so that's always been weird. We have an alter in charge of the NPCs, the outside world, the daydreams, etc. He was one of the first alters too, so that's been his job the entire time. Also it might just be because we maladaptive daydream and have since the body was just a small child, but we (actually only a certain Type of Alter, but we have a few of those, including me) can pretty much spawn NPCs really easily. Also some alters can still manifest things out of thin air without going outside, but I kind of chalk that up to "The brain says they need to stay at home" or maybe like Matthew, "This alter is all powerful and fully capable of protecting everyone so why wouldn't they be fully capable of just creating things? They're invincible." or even "They have more control over headspace than others". - Jamie

Our headspace... is in a constant state of flux. Most of it is like a thick grey fog at this point. There was a dark black void that our littlest hid in for over 40 years just crying and never speaking, but that has disappeared now and he lives/stays in the time/memory of our grandparents house. They were/it was the only safe place he ever knew. He's far happier now than he was and we're hoping he'll be able to front on Christmas- it was the last happy holiday before we split. We've always hated holidays and felt nothing since then- always on the outside looking in at all the happy people and wanting it too, but knowing we could never have it and we didn't know why. But now, that's changed and we're hoping we can experience that joy again. Other than his spot in the headspace, everything else is very amorphous and unformed. Maybe we haven't felt the need? We're still at the beginning of the DID journey, so maybe things will form later as each of us needs or wants it to. Thanks for sharing your experiences- it's made our journey easier.

Holy crap, style goals to the max Kim Kim! Our headspace is kind of similar to how it worked for you guys on the island in some ways? We have our Hub, which is like. A coffee shop front, with a room for the littles, and a sensory calm room, and a backyard with a playground and a pond. We cannot go out the front door, though we can see out it (it’s just a road and across the street is another little park area). We can’t really change a whole lot in the Hub - we have a movie and book area that we can sort of change depending on how many of us are around at that time, like what kind of seating is available - but several alters have their own rooms, and those just kind of. Appear? And the things inside just kind of appear and exist passively. So some kind of desire for a separate space has to exist and then it just kind of poofs into existence and it exists for that alter at all times - if an alter wants to go into another alter’s room, that takes more concentration by all parties. We also find that we have the same limitations on creating things - things that are alive and such just don’t work, even in the separate rooms. The most complex thing we have is a fish tank that is more or less just a loop.

My headspace when I first noticed it was a grotto. It had a cottage with a grassy area in the front to sit and enjoy the day. Inside the cottage had the living room (where I first saw my alters) and a kitchen. Then there's a hallway and roughly 3 to 4 rooms. Theres a hidden set of stairs to more rooms but you can only see the door if you know its there. The main alters (the common ones that front for our system) live in the cottage. My room is a bed, a dresser, 2 night stands and every inch of our walls are lined with pictures. The pictures themselves are special because we adapted the blues clues ability to jump into pictures. So in order to jump into the picture (the pictures could be a quiet room, various places on the island, memories that each person holds.....) you have to somehow unlock that picture. Locked pictures are just pictures or blank photos. Unlocked pictures are portals to whatever that picture holds. I also have boxes full of inch square pictures in my closet that I still need to explore. Outside of the cottage is a forest and across the field is a waterfall that flows into a pond. I have always been a fan of waterfalls. In a game growing up I learned there is often a cave behind waterfalls. Well upon exploring behind the waterfall I learned there's a cave that leads out to the other side of the mountain. That spot is unexplored by me. What I do know is there a a massive fruit Grove that holds various fruits. The center kinda is the juice bar where the npcs of our headspace can get fruits juices. Beyond the fruit juice bar is a town square that holds the houses for all the npcs. Its like a labyrinth. In the middle is a beautiful fountain. Beyond that is the town like space for the npcs. Its mostly a mall (that was common in our childhood) in that mall is a school. Any and all who want to front for our system needs to pass the classes at the school. Class 1 is the basics of fronting. Basically its what to do and what not to do when it comes to fronting. Class 2 is the more detailed explanation for our system like what work we do, who we know, what basic information we know...... class 3 is specialized classes. Those are specalized for the trauma holders (so their information can be put in the operating system), for the specialized jobs the person will be doing.

UGHHHHHH I want a real inner world so bad!!! All we have is a cabin with a garden outside, a field, and an abandoned hospital (which I'm sure holds trauma memories). Vixen, who lives in the cabin, has the closest life to the outer world, but even then she doesn't go very far outside the cabin. I, as the host, can only really get snapshots into the inner world, like I'm looking into it but not really there. Most people just live in the "forest", the sort of nothingness that surrounds all the actual structures. It sucks cuz the original is in there living it up, and I'm stuck out here, with a life that doesn't feel like my own. The closest I get to my ideal reality is in dreams, so of course I sleep a lot. I'm holding out hope though, because an introject of BBC's Sherlock is currently developing (like, he's here, but he's sort of a fragment atm and trying to gain his own sense of self and reality) and canonically Sherlock has an entire "mind palace", pretty much an entire world populated by NPC's of people he knows. He can also store memories/info there. So, I'm hoping that once we finish the show, his entire personality, as well as his mind-palace, will be put into place. And I somehow figure out how to access it like for real, and create my own reality beside his. Hopefully I can figure out how to trade out of my role as host, because I think that'll be the only way I can really access the inner world. Wish me luck!

we experience things in a very similar way. we have a few (outer, DID) friends who can just *poof* things into existence, but when we decided to expand the house, we had to focus on actively building onto it for it to stick. for our two main hosts, it takes a lot of concentration to go into the inner world, though for us the world continues to exist passively, but if they lose focus, they pop back into our "control room". i'd love to see more research on how inner worlds work and are sustained, because it's such an under-discussed topic.

I want a wolf please" before we even watched this video. :D And I'm here like, chill, we don't even have a proper headspace right now. :D (We didn't have one and I tried to make one and somehow it turned into a football field where everyone is a just a colourful fluffball, rolling around (I don't know how that happened).) How am I supposed to make a wolf when I can't even really make a headspace. :(

That's really interesting! I think that headspace worlds are always cool to hear about. Just last night one of my alters was talking to me about the headspace. I, the core and host, haven't really seen the headspace in detail, so it was really cool to have it described to me. Apparently ours is broken up into different realms for each of my alters. They have a main hub world, but they have their own worlds that can be accessed through houses in the hub world. The alter describing the headspace to me also sorta gave me brief images of what the worlds looked like.

I relate to this so much. By default, we don't have a headspace, when someone isnt in the conscious awareness they kinda go into this weird unconscious state where what's happening externally is loaded into them. Our 'headspace' is a paracosm. It's a world I created, which means it's constantly what you describe as active. The others get their life stories and memories from there, but the versions of them in the paracosm have no awareness of out here, or who I am to them, and the paracosm is more like an uncovering of their memories than an actual real-time headspace. So it doesn't help our functioning at all. I'm trying to create a communal space using the concept of liminality ( Think Howl's Moving Castle or the bridge in Spirited Away), but it's taking a lot of mind power because we don't naturally have a headspace. We weren't supposed to communicate. So I'm trying to create a space but it's hard. And I don't know where to put it, ie do I put it in the paracosm or make it something separate altogether? Only two of us have this ability, the rest of us can't create shared paracosms/shared internal events or settings.

I would start channeling the energy you feel ("this can't be real) towards this focus: "we are early in our human history!" Meaning, we have so much to learn about the brain + humans, & 2019 is early compared to, let's say, 2099, which WILL come someday (and be AS REAL as today). (And we'll be long gone).. We need all the belief we can. As a system myself, most of my life is dealing with denial. It affects every area of my life. Areas you wouldn't consider!

Melissa I’m not saying I don’t believe them. In fact I think I do believe them, mainly just because there are so many different people with DID that claim to experience this inner world phenomena, and each persons is so unique in how it works and how things operate within it, and I don’t see any reason for anyone to lie about it. My point is just to say that this phenomenon is just so far outside what I thought was possible for the human mind, that it’s literally not possible for me to not be at at least a little bit skeptical. Like when people say that the inner world seems literally just as real as the waking world, and not really dream like at all... you gotta understand, that’s really hard for someone like me to believe, because I’m not even sure I’ve ever had a dream that was “as real as real life”. I’ve had some pretty vivid dreams, but I don’t think I could ever say that about them. Things are always kinda morphing and changing, and the environment always changes and is rarely ever static, and things aren’t consistent and don’t make a lot of sense most of the time. So when people claim that everything within the inner world is just static and consistent, with sort of NPC people who exist independently and do things like work at jobs and stuff within the inner world... that’s just insanely remarkable! I feel like whatever disbelief I could have for something as remarkable is that should be sort of forgivable in this instance.

Melissa Trust me, If anything, by bias is in the favor of people with DID. It’s so amazing sounding, that I sort of desperately want it to be true. But it’s just so far outside of my paradigm that my rational mind won’t allow me to just completely accept it.

In my system's inner world we have almost no control over our inner world. We can't change anything physically. The only thing we can manifest on our own is food, they just think about anything edible and it appears. I'm the only one who can't do that and I don't go there very often. I usually go what we call "the void". It's just a fully black space but I'm not floating, there's a floor but it's still the same color as everything else.

Thank you Kim Kim and all of you for sharing these amazingly informative videos. I always am curious how it works for other systems. I am currently only actively able to perceive my room, the room of the alter who has been with me literally since the beginning of what i can remember (and I usually only go there when I am in an extreme panic or feeling scared or in danger) and little snipits of things the others in my system have told me. It is fascinating to me to hear how other systems work internally and how the inner world is created or formed for others. Right now my inner world is apparently a bit jumbled based on what the alters that formed around certain traumas/serious stressful times needed at the time/understood. Thank you for sharing a small part of your world with all of us and have a wonderful day!

I get why the book shelf is there even when you're not actively thinking about it because it's a real thing but stuff that only exists in your mind? Like for us things only exist while we're actively interacting with it and if we don't interact with something we tend to forget it's even part of the head space. This was kind of useful in a way because old Micheal resembled a burn victim and the littles were absolutely terrified of him. They were kept separate from each other in the head space and then the littles forgot Micheal even existed and Micheal forgot we even had littles in our system. I can remember them now because Claw would play with the littles in the head space and I have both their memories which is really freaking weird. I can shape shift now so I can be scary when I need to be scary and I can look like a normal person when the littles are around so I don't scare the crap out of them. Obviously other alters will still exist even if we don't remember they're there but anything else if no one is using it or thinking about it then it stops existing until it's needed again and everyone will just forget it was ever there till someone thinks we need this and then suddenly oh yeah this was here before but we forgot. A lot of the inner world kinda mimics things we've seen in the real world so it's usually revisiting something in the real world that reminds us that place or object exists inner world too.
