Creation: A Non-dual Perspective

Is there a way of explaining creation from a non-dual perspective? A man who says he grew up with the creation myths from the catholic tradition asks Rupert if there is a similar story within the non-dual traditions.
Rupert says yes - it's called Mary and Jane. Within Mary's mind there lies all possible dreams, but while she is awake, she doesn't have access to those dreams. So, she falls asleep and dreams she's Jane on the streets of Paris. Her own mind, which is a single indivisible field of consciousness divides itself into a subject and an object. From Jane's point of view, it appears that what exists is mind on the inside, and matter on the outside. But, when Mary wakes up, she realises there is no world, no separate mind, no separate self, no people and no objects - only the activity of her own mind.
This is, of course, a myth. I'm not suggesting that this is an accurate model of reality, but it's the most accurate one I know. And if you look back, all the world's great traditional societies and many of the world's great religions have this in one form or another. They have this story of the absolute dreaming or imagining the world within itself and localising itself as a person in that world.

Separation is in a sense the greatest gift since it’s the prerequisite for free will. What is not mentioned is that Source/God/Brahma/etc is not asleep but has choosen to live inside every living being (thus separation is in reality just a mirage) so as to educate Himself and to share all our experiences. He is constantly evolving which is the purpose of creation.

In truth, no one knows. The imaginary tale that there is an infinite wanting to know the finite, that we are the dream of our consciousness etc… etc… is just satisfactory speculations, appeasing to the discomfort of NOT knowing…a nice trance that mesmerizes the needy mind. All that is to be known IS happening, here now. This is it. Just marvelous!!! .

Such a great discussion. I latched on to Richard Rohr’s “Original Goodness” when pondering the creation story. Where did all this shame and unworthiness come from. Conditioning around “Original Sin”? I’m so grateful this topic is being brought to the table from so many perspectives. Thank you!

Fear is the root of all "evil". Fear comes from the illusion of separateness as we are born into "Jane" and then conditioned to believe the separateness, at least most of us. Shame, unworthiness, lust, aversion, attachment.. all symptoms of the Original Fear. But that's the game. As Ram Dass said, we apparently have to become "somebody" ( separate) in order to realize we are "nobody" (reunited).

@rhaineyrwc 1974. If everything is God's dream, then, three is no "we" anywhere to make or change the dream in any shape or form. If God Alone is doing the whole show, then, it is God Alone can make the dream either more or less suffering. Rupert's story is a nice story. A story started by religion and religious ideology and beliefs. Understanding the nature of Existence has to be free from all preconceived notions. Starting with a preconceived notion on Existence or God as being all happiness, all peace all good or all loving is a religious way of understanding Existence. This is based on self ignorance and self dishonesty, which are two main forms of self deception. One can never be too careful when it comes to the Absolute True Nature of oneself or Existence as Is in Itself.

@@bildencarlia6924 I was very curious about life ever since I was very little. I had many obes when I was little. It just occurred by itself. I was too young to understand or analyze. My very first all in meditation into the nature of Existence began when I was in college. That was almost 30 years ago. I'm afraid you're missing or overlooking the self deceiving notion that is practiced by Rupert and others alike here, without realizing what is really being instilled. This is supposed to be a consciousness only model. But, if you look closely, what you really find is nothing more than a religious ideology , rooted in duality. Religion divides Reality into a Deity and the Devil. One to be praised and the other to be blamed. That's duality. Praising one while blaming the other can only be possible, when and if these two supposed entities have their existence, completely independent of each other. Only then, it's possible to praise one and blame the other. All religious ideologies are rooted in duality. Religions claim that their deity is never responsible for the sufferings. All blames go to the nonexistent, imaginary entity the Devil. Rupert's ideology is a religious model. The only thing that changes in Rupert's model is naming. Under Rupert's ideology, the religious deity becomes consciousness and the devil becomes mind. Rupert has been claiming from day one that consciouness is never responsible for the sufferings. All blames went to nonexistent imaginary entities like mind, finite mind, belief in separate self...etc. Rupert always accuses mind as the one deceiving our true nature by mimicking the presence of consciouness. How can it be possible, if the mind is nothing more than the activity of consciousness alone?. In other words, It is consciouness Alone, deceiving Itself with its own activities. There's no mind anywhere, anytime to mimick the presence of awareness or to do any activity at all. The only One there, doing all this to itself is consciouness Alone. No devil, No mind. None, whatsoever. Creating and entertaining false notions of a deity or consciouness is the root of every form of self deception. One can never be too careful, when it comes to the Absolute True Nature of oneself or Existence as Is in Itself. You take good care of yourself.

We should not negate the HUMAN-PART of ourselves though. Indeed its true that matter doesn't ultimately exist as we perceive it, but it does exist the way we perceive it in relevance to our own humanness. Us being human with the experience of things like solidness or emotions is a valid and deliberate expression of infinite consciousness. It's where our happiness lies, not in imagining ourselves away from our human factor.

I agree that our human experience is beautiful however our happiness doesn’t lie in the experience of what we perceive - this awareness is intrinsic to non-duality. Happiness is who we are before the agitations / projections of consciousness in the mind based upon our perceptions, assumptions and the meaning we give to things. Our very being is whole, complete, eternal, happy and fulfilled. Happiness is what’s left when the mind is still.

We awareness apparently get to use this human suit while in the dream/simulation but it's not actually real because only awareness is real. I really enjoy Rupert's Mary and Jane example because in my night dreams I have dreamt my awareness as different people and it's very real during the dream but then I wake up and I am apparently the awareness of this body that is going about life in the day dream.

To a degree you are right. The point of spiritual awakening isn't to resent or escape the human experience. It's to recognize that that is all it is. An experience. It is not what you are. It is not who you are. Not even temporarily. It's a state, condition, or experience. Are you a headache? No. In the same way you are not a headache, you are not the head or the thoughts you think are happening in it. You are that which witnesses all this within itself. So long as you identify to vividly with that collection of experiences, the more they inspire an experience of suffering. And it's not that you can stop the suffering, it's better than that, you discover that you are not that suffering either... What you really are is like the clay that serves as the substance for a clay bowl. You are not the bowl. The bowl is just something you look like right now. The goal of spiritual awakening, and it really is just the start of a much larger adventure, is not too smash the bowl, it's too realize there is no bowl. There is only clay in the form of a bowl. You are the clay. Not the man (or woman, or whatever).

👍👍Hi. Yes. One impasse or contention from the Abrahamic is that the " Infinite Being " has autonomy ", it " behaves " or has authority and authors the landscape of existence, rather than being a coexistent presence to oneself that co-innocently is subject to all the universal ebbs and flows of the tides of change. Something like that.

I agreed with the one big infinite mind that localized and foster all other beings. But that does not explain that there is a story behind it. If that is all there is, then no one would be afraid of committing evil since there is no punishment because as soon as that person wake up, everything is forgiven because they realize it is only a dream. Nah, there is more to the story. Every being is uniquely created and the life they lead in this world will bring them to either heaven or hell. But by the way of Rupert's explain about the state of dream, then it sounds like the life that we lead doesn't matter because it is only dream.

The last experiment is deemed to be evidence to suggest that light appears to go back in time, and is a mystery to science. From the understanding of truth of course its very easy. The apparent past is being created now. Best regards.

What Rupert calls the localized aspect of Consciousness is what in Vedanta is called the reflected Consciousness or the Jiva.. the localized part has a subtle body or sukshma sharira which allows it to reflect infinite Consciousness.. that is why the body mind system feels conscious when in fact only Consciousness is conscious. The mind and body as the internal and external aspects of the same thing is well explained in Ken Wilber's 4 quadrant model of the Integral Approach.

Here's a thought, for what it's worth: If God deliberately put herself to sleep to experience herself, wouldn't "waking up" then be counterproductive? Maybe even heresy? Or are we just God slowly waking herself up? And if we do wake God up... What then? Back to undifferentiated everything-nothingness? Then another dream? Speaking of which... If God can't know anything when she is in her pure infinite form, how did she know to put herself to sleep? I'm not trying to be contrarian. These are just the kinds of questions my mind jumps to. Pondering them a bit can help my mind calm down.

This makes sense because animals and flowers 💐 experience far worse fate than human beings but we are more miserable than them because we are capable of higher thought forms as a species. Now Mr Tolle always says we are here for the evolution of consciousness meaning what? Does consciousness "God" want human beings to be aware of the illusionary nature of reality. In other words, where do human beings and our unique ability to be unconscious fit in this "dream" ?

Assuming that Rupert has achieved enlightenment, why is his awakening not resulting in the end of this dream universe? Because how can infinite consciousness keep sleeping after one limited consciousness woke up. The truth is that the infinite consciousness never slept. It is up and is witnessing this big drama in mirror called Maya 😀

And, if so, how does Mary create her reality to reflect her choice? If not, then we are talking about predestination with only the illusion of control? Is this correct?

He says that complex ripples look out at the sea of consciousness which they are in and see it as the universe. But here he is saying that consciousness doesn’t move (shudder) and simply dreams/imagines the universe. These two stories seem to completely contradict one another so I’m very confused. Can anyone help clarify please?

I do believe how ever that it is possible to feel it 24/7 ,i've done that for periods in my life ... All joy is ,is awareness of awareness itself ,and since awareness is always 'there', you can always chose to become aware off it and feel joy. However this does not mean that because you know this fact ,that awareness is ALWAYS 'there' that it will always be so simple to not be distracted by thats what is happening within awarenss ... This requires practise. And by distraction by those things happening within awareness (your life) i don't mean to say there is anything wrong with acting within your life. Life isn't the problem ,it's not like you have to give up life and completely focus on awareness alone ,but you have to try and don't let the awareness of what happens in awareness take you away of being aware of awareness itself. This i believe requires practise ( don't know if Rupert wld agree) ,daily meditation but also trying to include step by step more awareness of awareness itself outside meditation. I haven't done enough 'practise' so i don't feel it 24/7 ,but i know i can ,and i DO feel it daily ,since i meditate daily.
