From 2020 to 2023, the German Library Association (dbv) supported more than 650 libraries in their development into contemporary Third Places as part of the "Vor Ort für Alle" funding program. The Wittlich public library was among the institutions supported. In collaboration with other municipal institutions, the Wittlich library used the funding to transform a vacant store into a state-of-the-art Maker Space.
"Vor Ort für Alle" was funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM) on the basis of a resolution of the German Bundestag. The funding came from the federal program "Rural Development" (BULE) of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
