Creating Pattern Using Stencils and Colored Slips

In this video, I demonstrate how to transfer slip onto newspaper using stencils and colored slips. This technique allows you to create colorful patterns that you can cut into different shapes and transfer onto your clay forms, much like applying a temporary tattoo. This technique is a great way to add pattern and color to your clay forms before the bisque firing.

    Hello T&K Smith, You're very welcome. Yes, you could do that, but I have found that the slip doesn't transfer as evenly and neatly if you try to apply the slip through the stencil directly onto the clay. Also, it is harder to build the slip up thickly when you transfer directly through the stencil onto the clay form.

  • @tiffanybailey5892

    @tiffanybailey5892

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hello Jeremy, You can certainly try that, but because the clay is so thin it will usually start to crack and disintegrate as you add water. Also, you may find that if you do get it to adhere to your form, as the clay form starts to dry the slipped stencil design may be more likely to crack off before or even after the bisque firing. I hope this helps!
