    VERY cool, Joe! One of the things that holds the 4 material option back is the lack of models to take advantage of the four extruders. Now that you've shown a fairly simple way for everyone to take any model and make it multi material compatible, we will hopefully see a LOT more colorful prints!

    I know this has been around for awhile, but this was very well put together. Several steps in the process that I have been looking for are contained in this video. Now if I could find a good option for aligning objects in Cura I would be good to go. I am excited to print my first 2 color print - a storm trooper helmet. You made it a lot easier. Thanks!!!

    Hi Joe Another great video. 1 tip ( well 2 in one) before doing anything to the model it is best to select the model then menu "edit" then "align" This will put the model at the center X0 Y0 Z0 ( center on most print beds too) Then also check the scale and adjust if needed. I've had issues in the past when moving/scaling multiple part objects in Meshmixer

    you are welcome. Mesh mixer is a weird program in as much as 1 day after using it I forget nearly all the commands and options and have to "dig" them out again when I use it again. Its nearly always worth it and as far as free software goes it's well up on the list.

    One thing that annoys me when using meshmixer is that when you cut off the arms, feet, and shoulder, but had not yet done the head, it had already lost a lot of detail in the fine creases of they eyes and around the mouth. It tends to remesh more of the model than I want. For fdm printing I don't think this will ever be visible, but I have seen some of the 'crease triangulation' show up in resin prints. There are probably settings that can be tweaked for that, but as you say, it is a pretty big system killer, heh. GREAT video by the way! Really like your channel!

    Thanks for an excellent tutorial. Will all the different parts automatically reconnect at their supposed places in the slicer? Question about slicers for dual extrusion: Cura or PrusaSlicer. (I use Cura for single extrusion printing but was wondering if Prusa is maybe not better or easier to learn for dual extrusion.)

  • @0kennyken

    Brilliant, thanks, one question, if I have gone over a line quite a bit but didn't notice until I had finished that whole part, how can I erase the bit that has gone onto another section before I smooth the edge as it is still there afterwards otherwise?

  • @Alluvian567
    @Alluvian5676 жыл бұрын

    Do you prefer using the prusa multimaterial or the palette for multicolor / multimaterial prints? Without having used either I would think that the palette would be better for multicolor as it won't have to do the wipe/clean on every colorchange, but the prusa would be better for multimaterial where you may have materials with different temperature needs (not sure if palette software can handle stuff like that, or even if prusa can), mostly thinking about mixing flexible and solid materials.

    Joe, I really enjoyed your detailed presentation of the Meshmixer tool, and I'm all excited about being able to create my own "mixes" for my Prusa i3 MK3S with MMU2. However, after following all your steps, I get to the EXPORT point, and my list of export formats does not include any "Sequence" options. (STL ASCII is there, and STL Binary, but not STL Binary Sequence nor its ASCII partner... same goes for OBJ.) I have posted a message to Autodesk's Fusion360 forum (which is, I'm sure, not the right place), and I have posted a bug with Autodesk (for which I expect no response since it seems to be unique to me). I've uninstalled and reinstalled. I thought it might be a corrupt "stuck" .DLL file, so I've also installed onto a fresh laptop, with the same result. I've tried V3.3 and V3.5... nothing seems to bring these options to me. Do you have any ideas that might help me get past this? I'm a techie with tons of computer experience, and I'm completely baffled.

    Never used Meshmixer, but if I were splitting this up in Blender, I'd get around that problem with the shirt collar by extruding the edges to a single point in the middle of the hole, and pull that point into the body, making something of an inverted cone which doesn't intersect the sides of the neck.

    It had to be, otherwise Bird on a rock would have beaten me! Now that I've finished the video, I have to say that was a really great look at the work flow. Now, I come from a CG art background, so I look at this and immediately say, "I bet I could do this pretty easily in Blender." Not that I have the multimaterial capability yet... Though, just as sort of a homework assignment, are there any models you'd really like to see in multimaterial? I'd be tempted to see how the workflow compares in Blender and put teh model up on Thingiverse for the world to see.
