    Your ER11 collet is put in backwards, at 1:26 it shouldn't stick out like that. You might want to reverse it :>

    Yeah definitely hard to see that when you watch seven different channels about machining. This old Tony wouldn't even do that as a joke.

    Great video Joel! Having owned a snapmaker, I have 2 CNC recommendations for you . 1 would be to flip the ER11 collet so it's right side up. It may help with keeping the bit locked in. 2 would be to get some Amana spectra bits that are downcut for wood. Youll have less chips and probably a higher quality finish.

    Yes, my Snapmaker 2.0 CNC, which is the older and smaller version of this, works great with the supplied bits. The upside down collet is painful to watch. I love Joel and have been watching all his videos for a couple years now by the way.

    "Downcut for wood"? Does this mean the bit is not flat at the tip and can do "plunge cuts" into whatever material you are milling?

  • @mechandphysics

    @mechandphysics

    11 ай бұрын

    @Fishbone4u Down cut is just the direction the bit releases chips. If it's down, the cutter has some downward force on the wood being milled. Up cut pulls up on the wood. If the wood is thin, up cut bits can actually pull the wood from the build plate and cause chatter.

    @@mechandphysics I know what you mean now! A while back when I was trying my Snapmaker CNC I saw the various methods…so much to think about! Are the bits different for wood? What terminology should I look for when purchasing? Thanks!

    This was a neat combination of different tools for the end artwork. When I saw the title, I thought you were doing the "A.I. Skelly" that I have been seeing in 3D groups these last 2 months. A.I. Skelly was just an AI-generated chibi skeleton that someone then modeled and several refinements to print. I think it started as a project to show how A.I. can be used in design for concepts and then expanded on.

    Nice! Very nice indeed. My sister does cosplay commissions. And she got a request for a GOT character. She couldn't find a template. So she drew one on paper. I imported the jpg into CURA, and created a 3D print of her drawing. Happy customer. Same with turning handwritten notes into 3D prints. I love 3D printing. Thanks Joel for teaching us more ways to expand our uses!❤

Love the Snapmaker, CnC takes time just like when you started printing there is a lot to learn. I am learning on this machine as well but I have a woodworking background and I don’t want to see you learn hand placement when free cutting the hard way. *HighFive

    I have to urge you to never leave your CNC or laser cutter unattended. These are not tools like a 3D printer. You need to have adult supervision with them at all times, otherwise you have a severe risk of fire from either one. No business leaves their industrial CNC or laser machines unattended for this reason. I consider you lucky you did not start a fire. The bit could have easily sat in one place and spun until friction caused a fire. I did like your project and sharing your issues along the way. I definitely agree that the small details deserve to be laser etched instead. One way to improve your CNC cutting skills is to understand how to enter the data for a v-bit. They are not setup the same in the software as a standard bit. You might know this already, but from the video, I think this is why you got the result you did instead of a finished product that looked correct. But if you have a laser cutter, its the easier path to take. Be safe!

    Very cool video Joel! I like how you were able to utilize all the tool heads on the snapmaker and show what this machine can do. Kudos sir. Big High Five for utilizing AI, I use it quite often to extend images I need more copy space on and if I need to remove/replace an object in the background quickly, extremely useful tool. I love how people say AI steals the artwork, like everyone here isn't guilty of taking an image for other uses, lol. The project turned out awesome, I love this idea and I might take my mom's signature and do this, she had amazing penmanship and this would be a great way to memorialize her for my sister and I. I am only about 6.5 min into the video, so I appologize if you end up mentioning this later in the video, but it is very dangerous to use ABS with a laser. ABS emits cyanide gas when heated up by the laser. Even if you were just trying to burn off the paint, and not any of the ABS, it's very risky for humans and pets if any of it gets hot enough. That said, thanks for showing us the project, and High-5! Now I'll go watch the rest and see if I didn't need to point out the ABS safety stuff.

    AI is a tool. It shouldn't be end all be all type of thing. Many could also say these bench top CNC machines are taking away work from machining shops. 3D printers are taking away from companies that make plastic moldings or injection molding. That KZread is taking away students from tech schools. Jobs away from professionals that went to school for a specific trade and can easily be found "how to" on KZread. You may not like it but it's the direction we as a society are going. People can get with the times or get left behind.
