Thank you for posting the recording of this event. I try to watch all Jonathan Haidt's lectures and podcasts on the effects of social media on children and on society in general. I am also a fan of Rauch's work which I learned about on one of JH's podcasts. But the only thing I have a slight problem with is this: I wish Jonathan Rauch would use a different example than the 2020 election to make his point. Just before I watched this, I was actually watching a podcast with Victor Davis Hanson and Cleta Mitchell discussing election integrity. Please understand that there are intelligent, reasonable, decent people who don't agree with him about this topic. And they, like him also care deeply about the changes in important institutions in our society.

Such a shame that this important topic took a political turn. It certainly limited the number of people I would have felt comfortable sharing it with.

Thank you for sharing! Excellent conversation! Have you thought about complementing these views with the fisiological and anatomical features studied by works of Dr Iain McGilchrist, Michael Levin and Nazareth Castellanos, and the complexity dimension that Cesar Hidalgo, Ricardo Hausmann and Joseph Tainter can bring to the table?

Very compellingly stated from the devil's advocate at 27:50. I can get on board with that view but I fear the advocates are a little less temperate.

Factfulness is important, I guess, but succinctness is more important, and the point of being succinct is to get to the real goal, which is the truth.

1:29:23 "All the evidence shows we are not as divided as we have been led to believe. And we can reduce our vulnerability to the social media madness. If we start to doing the work ... where you can begin to rebuild those bonds of trust. And one by one, individual by individual, then group by group, then community by community, we have changed America that way before. Just ask Alexis de Tocqueville - we have a genius for it, according to him. We can do it again."

Off to a slow start for Rauch but hang in there for the dialogue.
