Excellent tutorial on how to navigate the topo map maker. Very informative. Now I can make my own topo maps without having to wait on the snail mail service.

GREAT video. Never heard of Caltopo but I’ve always wanted some good mapping software. Can’t wait to start making maps! BTW the Texas town you used for your demo is pronounced See-go-vill. LOL

Great video. Do you not get the grid lines/numbers with the free version ? Tried printing and they didn’t show up.

Did you ensure you checked the box on the left side of your screen after selecting your grid type?

Hey man, great vid! I've been playing with CalTopo for a couple days now, but I can't seem to find a way to get proper grids. I stick to USG and 1km grid squares as usual, 1:25000 etc. But when I print out, the gridlines are off-set in relation to the USNG markings. Any clue on what I'm doing wrong?

Good Afternoon, When you are printing your PDF Map, ensure the scale section in your settings is set to “default” and not “fit to printable areas”. This has been the source of grid lines being off in the past.

I know this is old but make sure the datum is set to the same setting on everything you're using. For example, print a map with WGS84 datum and unsure your gps is also using that setting. They can be pretty far if one is using NAD27 for example. If you look at your gps and it's telling you you're in the wrong spot based on your map grids, it could be the map is right and your gps has the wrong setting.

Can you use Caltopo with a Garmin Glo so the map can be used as a moving map page while in remote areas?

I do not believe so but I could be wrong. These CalTopo maps are PDFs once saved. But there may be a way that I am unaware of to interface them.
