Please don't forget to mention that linseed oil WILL COMBUST on its own IF YOU do not dilute it in water. Let the rag dry then toss it in the garbage, please do not just put it in a pail.= fire

Rag won't "dry" and do not toss in closed lid garbage. Needs no dilution!!! Sheesh. Oil and water don't /won't mix unless emulsified. Have used it for decades and nary a flame. It won't just combust in liquid form in closed container. It's the high vapor pressure volatile vapors from rags/cloths that combust in a closed or even covered environment. ..like a drummer in Spinal Tap. The oiled staffs won't combust.

How long should I wait after coating with linseed oil before coating with finish?

Let it dry for 3-5 hours after a few coats, I would focus more on the tips, that’s how they crack. Also watch what polish you use it might effect the oil. Oil the shaft Polish the tips

More than 3-5 hours!! Can take 24-72 hours depending on dryness of wood prior and its porosity. Patience.

You don’t need to stain them if you’ve properly applied linseed oil.
