Creating a track from randomly generated material: Behind the scenes of LIVEWIRE

Музыка

Here's a clip of me talking about my latest single, Livewire, and how it went from a randomly generated sequence to a full track. This is the first track on my upcoming EP, Gradualism, an experiment in writing with randomly generated material.

My biggest take away from this is: when composing with generative synths/soundscape stuff - don't hit record, play for 4 minutes then stop and restart when you hear something you don't like. Instead: play for a good hour until you get a section/section you like.

the other thing I'd add to this is to record any automation/midi input... really handy if you want to smoothly transition between different iterations of the sound

That is fascinating. Such a cool idea to create something totally new. Is this related to your graduate thesis by chance? Great ideas your trying with the direction of your channel, too. ✌️

Thanks Bob! Yeah this is literally my master's thesis project. I wrote a paper too but idk if that'll see the light of day outside of academia haha
