I find that having a resource for ideas in an RPG sense is always valuable. "How to be a great GM" and "How to be a great player" are both great sources of information but, Some people like given examples of ideas for campaigns or stories and I find "For Your Consideration" is a great way to collaborating with the community while coming up with great and wondrous campaigns for role playing together regardless of genre.

My first horror campaign was inspired loosely by Marble Hornets (specifically, the mindfuck in the hotel room). When the players were in areas specifically important to/touched by the big bad, certain map features triggered secret rebuilds of the location in an uncanny and disorienting way. My players loved this mechanic, and I will some day reintroduce this with my new group. A bit off topic, but this video really made me ponder on this mechanic again.

I was thinking something along the lines of “no, no, you fools, I’ve got to feed the rubbish pit, I couldn’t feed the rubbish pit. And then it turns out that the orphanage is actually sentient and must be fed, but the nun getting to old to do so it starts to extend protoplasmic tendrils into the area to eat the dead (who are now unable to rest).

The Bad: You already knew the problem with presenting the book and your green screen. Maybe you could scan some preview pages and show them seprately next time. Great idea between. The Good: I really loved your in depth and concrete approach to designing an adventure for the players. Don't get me wrong, I love all your abstract videos on how to do this and how to do that. But it only really sets in with an example adventure. And each time you do this, I feel like I really get what you want to tell us.

I found your channel a few days ago. I have been watching and watching. Having been a GM for close to 30 years myself, I find this refreshing and amazing. I am starting a new campaign very soon at the request of some of my old players. You and I are very like minded. I do many of the same things you do. I am definitely a narrative GM. The campaign I am running is for a group of Star Wars Imperials. I love Lovecraftian stuff as well and would love to somehow marry the two settings. Do you ever run cross genre games? I love your channel. I flat out watch it for confirmation, information, edification and entertainment! Never stop my friend! Happy gaming!

This is full of really good stuff, Guy. AND since you asked, I like this new series idea. I think it can supplement the other videos with some rudimentary examples as well... While you are very comprehensive in your approach to gaming and semi-instructional substance, I think I've noticed viewers' comments exactly looking for more "examples" so a series with some (not necessarily all...) exemplar stuff being DONE would add to your regular content about the "HOW" parts of GM'ing and Playing. Of course, not all of it should be entirely wrapped around your instructionals for exemplar addendum, SO some reviews for products, other games and systems, and maybe even a few pro's and con's related to mechanics and statistics might be a fun visit to "mix things up". ;o)

The plot creation was also very good though and I think the "for your consideration" videos will be great no matter what specificaly you end up doing with them because looser more discussion than instructional type videos will be a great addition to the channel.

I like this series! But boy my train of thought for why dead would be being unearthing from their graves went a totally different direction. My idea would be that some large burrowing crypto-creature laid its egg under the cemetery so that its young would have something to feed on, and as the egg grows in size it psychically disturbs the graves from underneath, and players would have to delve into these burrowed caverns under the graveyard to find the source of the egg and destroy it, with the moral implication that even if it is a monster, they are still killing an unborn creature for no fault of its own.

I’m not big yet on alternative role playing modules, but it’s still nice to keep my mind open to how certain play mechanics can change how you perceive the game. Did I hear correctly that dice rolls SUBTRACT from your ability score? Because that would absolutely change the stress level and mood of play. I absolutely loved the campaign build. As a new GM, I’m finding it difficult to know exactly what to do first, and where it’s okay to feel like I’ve “finished” prepping, at least the bare minimum. I’m working on creating a fillable sheet that will hopefully work for me, at least under the circumstances of running a pre-written module (I know your opinions on that-I acquired the campaign from a friend who didn’t want to do it anymore. 😣). I found it very helpful to also see you go through backtracking and changing your mind, and how fluid your process can be. I’m confident once I’ve been doing this long enough, I’ll not require such structure to keep everything sorted. Cheers!

I have an idea. It could be a one-shot or campaign. Basically an MTF group is created and ghost dimension hopping in order to find out how scp-407 caused an XK class end of the world scenario. The only reason why this is known is because of scp-507 who had made the original discovery.

Wanted to leave a second comment with ideas regarding the scenario you were brainstorming. Take this blast of idea as you will, for this scenario or otherwise. :) > What is below? Rather than the stock, as you said, what about another creature that consumes the dead to add their flesh to it's own or their spirits to it's own conscious or psyche? > For setting, rather than the church/crypt/monastery/etc what if the characters were normal people on a simple day hike and came across this scenario when in the middle of the empty woods, a few hours from any civilization? Many small rural towns have small isolated or private grave sites in wooded areas, so I feel this could realistically be a setting (though not circumstance) that could occur. > A good mechanism for surprise to the players may be to require them to navigate the monastery, meet the living priests only to have the conversation end with the priests succumbing to this... whatever it is... themselves. The players finish exploring the initial location, only to find their original path blocked by the reanimated corpses of the priests, led by the ones they had been talking to. Maybe these priests were the ones who started these experiments. Maybe they lost control? Maybe this was their goal? Maybe the form of undeath they are resurrected into is different from what they expected? MAYBE (mashing a couple thoughts together here, so just roll with it for a second) after looking into the initial undead, and after the priest(s) who gave information to the player pass on, THEY resurrect into a different being that consumes their fellow dead to gain in power? > I like the idea of cannibalistic villagers more-so that I do the big bad. The evil necromancer/scientist/vampire/etc is a SUPER overplayed card. I liked your initial train of thought better, I think. > I liked it when you touched on the idea of wearing the bodies. Maybe a family of clothiers who craft their wears out of human skin and pass them off as animal skin goods after using dye? > Orphanage... children eating babies? Maybe we're crossing a line with that one....... oh well! > All I could think of when you said the orphans will "Show you where the nasty nuns are" was that it was the orphans, or at least a few of them, the whole time. They're trying to convince the PCs to defeat the nuns who can stop them. > Should the orphans who led the PCs to the chamber be "poor, innocent orphans" or those who have willingly sacrificed others to stay safe? Or, are they involved in some way as well? Maybe a split between a couple of those, or even all of them! > And there's the hospital! Now all we need is an insane asylum and some cursed land. Actually, I think I like the idea of the land being cursed better. Maybe the sister's actions were part of an ongoing process to appease the dead in an effort to save those she thought she could, attempting to twist the moral compass of the players or make them second guess their current course of action? > Stealing body parts to help questionably evil children? I love it! > I love no-win situations, especially in the horror genre. That's what really drives the mental anguish of horror home to the players. It's not a literal "You cannot win, rocks fall and everyone dies" scenario, but the PCs are under stress and moral dilemma regardless of the choice they make. Maybe you would like to use some of these, maybe you wouldn't. Hope you may find some of these interesting either way!

(I created the rpg) I thought long about weather or not to add stats for antagonists, but decided against it because I felt that would take away from a lot from what each GM decides creepypastas are to them. I didn't feel comfortable "deciding" the power of each cryptid, and instead gave GM's the ability to craft their own. I can see both sides on why this is a good or bad thing.

Speaking as a GM who has run a lot of different rpgs, you should consider making some adventures and maybe suggestions for some antagonists. It makes it a lot easier to get into a new game when there is a quick start session to get used to the rules (also I love flipping through bestiaries). If you are really worried about imposing your own view of something when statting out, maybe make some obscure characters or a custom one. Alternatively you could do what Dark Heresy did with The Skin Taker of Fedrid (Creatures Anathema), they gave it multiple possible backstories and two stat blocks (I think there was a Mutants and Masterminds villain like that too, but I don't recall where).

It's interesting that I saw this video came out on your twitter right after sending you a tweet about how to get players to "buy into" a game's setting, theme, story, or even the SYSTEM that you're trying to run. Specifically, I asked because I've tried a couple of times to run a game of Ten Candles, a thematic mood-based horror game, and the players continually refuse to do the "buy in" or "suspension of disbelief" required for a horror game to work. In fact they actively ignore story, plot, setting, or mood in an attempt to derail the "horror" from the horror game until I, as the GM, am sitting there 4-5 hours later sick of the entire thing. Rather than trying to save the civilians, they want to snort a mountain of cocaine. Instead of escaping from bloody murder island, they want to spend the entire game skinny dipping at the beach while one character is passed out drunk. Etc. Would love any feedback, suggestions, or advice you can give.

It is a good thing to talk these things out because you don't want a sadpasta which just makes people feel bad or a poopypasta with obnoxious blood and viscera. Crafting a creepypasta is like crafting a joke. You can't give the punchline away immediately. You could go... the corpse jumps at the party and causes a hallucination depicting how the being first died... or... something better... The party discovers a something which resembles a scrying orb held by a fresh victim, but it activates, showing a translucent image of the gruesome events which led to the failed escape of the poor soul. A successful arcana, intelligence (history, arcane) check along with an investigation, intelligence check could reveal the victim was trying to escape with disgusting evidence of a secret evil cult run by the local township magistrate. Maybe it turns out the township is hopelessly occupied by said magistrate ala Hot Fuzz (for the greater gooooood), and bringing the evidence to the authorities should be done with extreme caution. Even if you rally the constable and his fellow watchmen to your cause, you have still incited a civil war within the township between the oppressed and the cult loyalists... a fact the party should be aware of before they make such a decision. However, this is a horror story. Loyalist citizens are simultaneously killed and turned into ghouls, and the party must work together with the constable and his watchmen to get to the magistrate and take down the members of the cult. However, just in time, a posse of lawful paladins have arrived to smite the usurping party members. -----but hold on a minute, the party has retrieved the evidence and know of the cult's hidden ambition to plunge the country into toxic darkness with the help of a powerful evil outsider. Death abounds among the paladins' number, as the cultists consolidate the remainder of the ghoulified citizenry into a huge undead amalgam. A final battle ensues, as the the ghoul monstrosity seeks to feed itself with members of the cult while clawing at the remaining paladins, constable, watchmen, and the party.

I like this idea. Maybe now and then you could comment on ideas proposed by other youtubers. Lindybeige has done a few I'd be interested in your take on. This one on chase mechanics would be fantastic. kzread.info/dash/bejne/mYqbtM6Jd7acacY.html

that's why I'd make a CE character: lock the monastery and fireball that bunch! eat some pork belly while you see the whole thing crumble to the ground in flames while listening to the screaming of the kids and the nuns.
