Creating a G1000NXI for MSFS2020

I wanted to create a Garmin G1000 by 3d printing the frame and using a 10.4" LCD screen for the display. I will use these G1000 units in my new C172 cockpit in an upcoming video.

So here's my favorite part. This fellow... an absolute multi-discipline polymath is hand-crafting an incredibly complex one-of-a-kind device. We're nearly 30 mins deep. There's been 3d modeling, prep, printing, curing, painting, filing, SOURCING, assembly, wiring, QC checks, coding, synching with the simulator.... And what's the reaction? "...switch it over into the active... HOW SIMPLE IS THAT?! That's one encoder and two buttons working... SO SIMPLE! Now it's just [repeating those steps a couple dozen times]...!" HAHAH. Dude. Love it. I loved flying the G1000 during flight school. Having one on the desk would be fantastic. This is inspirational levels of ingenuity, and I'm all in for flexing all of those skill sets. But "HOW SIMPLE IS THAT?" 🤣🤣🤣

Brilliant work, and great to see the 'rat's nest' of wiring turn into neat wiring looms. Unfortunately I think any non-electronic simmers would be overwhelmed by the complexity of the wiring but can't think how PCBs could be used as people would likely source different switches and rotary encoders 😢. I'd definitely build 2 of these if I build a Simpit rather than go VR when a decent headset is available!

Hi Karl! Just finished the build of the G1000 V2. Any hints on how to get the RKJXT1F 4-way stick to work correctly in MobiFlight? It seems that each direction triggers the push switch as well. Greetings from Switzerland!

You are an inspiration! I've watched this video a thousand times. Taught myself to solder this week, and now I'm learning to read electrical diagrams. My goal is to complete the second version. My question is, where does the 12v come from? I'm assuming an external supply and so my second question, can the same 12v supply everything, the wiring diagram has it on 2 different sources. Thank you so much!

I really wanne give you 20 Abo´s, but i can only give you one. Its just amazing what you are creating. This Panel is the first thing i am building now to start my Low Budget Homecockpit. The 3D Printer arrived yesterday and the first parts are printing now. I want to build a Full Cessna Cockpit with under 2.000 €. And with your Parts, i think, it will be amazing. If i travel to England i really wanne see your 737 in Reallife. Again, amazing work!

Awesome work! In the process myself of duplicating this project. Just waiting on parts.... Do you have plans/build guides/dimensions for the C172 panel? I plan on building a home cockpit for the C172 G1000. Can't wait for more C172 videos. I need something to copy!

I have make this project to, but with some modifications: due I have VR headset and flight in VR MSFS2020, so don't need screens, lights on knobs and buttons, just buttons and encoders itself, any visual information is displayed in headset. Also I can't buy anymore in Karl' shop due financial restriction against Russia, so make own switch panel and must to adopt main big C172 panel holes and cuts for it, and I think cut main panel from aluminium sheet (a great respect to Karl for sharing CAD-model). Fuel and mixture controls also get on Thingiverse, may be in future will change for Karl' version. Good luck with your build! ))

Another great project, congratulations, your a genius. I'm really tempted to start a side project on the 737 with your G1000. but I'm afraid of not being able to make the connections and wire manage to the Arduino. Can you do one video on that topic? Also, I'm doing a research, if I can get all the parts through Amazon, so I don't have any surprises in the customs fees. can you give me the monitor driver model compatible with the monitor and 3d printed support.

Question: Do they make a set of volume pots with a push button as well? I'm in the process of printing this, and was curious. I believe on the real G1000 you push to ID a NAV aid. Thanks!
