Creating A Darker Alternative Fashion Wardrobe ⛓🖤🧷 Method and Lookbook PLUS 9+ DIY Projects

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Is it goth? Is it punk? Is it creepy cute? Is it pastel goth? Yamikawaii? Honestly I don't know and I don't really care.
For the last year and some change I've been experimenting with some darker alternative outfits in addition to my usual pastel kawaii style. I decided that since I enjoy wearing multiple aesthetics so much, it would be a lot easier and more fun for me to break my wardrobe up into a few essential capsules that can mix and match with each other - that way I can wear whatever style I feel like wearing on any particular day. Planning actual capsules also helps me create wardrobes that actually mix and match, maximizing the number of outfits I can get out of (hopefully) fewer overall garments. I love having a big wardrobe, but it's also important to be mindful of budget and physical space constraints.
This isn't necessarily intended to be a tutorial, but rather an explanation of what I did and what works for me. However, I hope sharing my process is helpful or inspiring to anyone who may be building their own wardrobe. ^-^

    @@ThatGuyGabeToo There are many instances where items and elements from the gay scene, or the kink scene or any other scene, lifestyle, culture or religion become commonly used within alternative fashion for their aesthetic value and mostly (if not completely) lose their original meaning when used in the context of alternative fashion. I know the story you refer to, I thought it was hilarious when I first heard it.

    I love how your personal style shines through with all the pastels and cute details! As I have been dressing in dark/alternative clothes since forever, I have some tips for people wanting to try it out: - Don't be afraid to pair different shades of black. Many thrifted clothes are washed out, but pairing them can really look great - the grunge look never dies. Alternatively: Bleach or dye them - build your wardrobe slowly. I gradually have been building my wardrobe for 10 years now. Since black works with everything, just use what you have until you have enough pieces to achieve your desired darkness. Don't rush :) - many black shirts with a print on them should not be ironed, since the print will start to crackle! - Leggings are amazing. Wear them under ripped jeans when it's cold, wear them with oversized shirts (that now look like tshirt dresses!), Wear them just as a more comfortable and durable substitute to tights. - Try to find not only basics, but also weird looking pieces that are interesting to look at. Patched up pants with pops of color, Colorblocking pieces, asymmetrical shirts, dresses that can be layered upon. When thrifting, try weird shit on, i often bought things that I originally did not like, but ended up LOVING, because it just worked with other pieces. - Juxtaposition looks SO good. I love to pair business wear like white buttonups with dark punk style. - Layering is everything - honestly, learn how to repair holes in your shirts and trousers. On black clothes, the stitching won't be visible at all. - aaand: Thrift your clothes, Upcycle them, DIY as much as you can. Old clothes last longer, you can repair nice pieces by sewing or patching them up. It looks more interesting and personalized. New stuff from fast fashion brands is often that low quality that you can't even repair it because the fabric is so thin.

    I love your take on darker style, it's so unique and different from the typical whirl/goth we see these days (which is also cute) Btw, nail polish is a great paint to use on metal. I use that to cover up jean buttons and studs all the time and it works great! I find that sanding the metal down with a nail file first and finishing with a clear top coat makes it last very long without needing a touch up.

  • @TheStitchess

    I always hear about people using nail polish with success but I think the climate here must get too hot or something because whenever I used it growing up eventually the nail polish would turn sticky?

  • @xDeydeyxtartelette

    @xDeydeyxtartelette

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@TheStitchess I know for nails it's better to let each coat dry very long like 30 mins between coats and do super thin layers or it'll for sure get sticky. You can also dip the polished item in ice cold water once it's set, it helps the varnish dry smoother. I think it would work just the same on metal, but I can't speak from experience as I live in Canada where heat is an issue for only 3 months ❄️

  • @dreamer6943

    @dreamer6943

    Nail polish itself goes off and becomes sticky and gloopy, once that happens it never really dries properly when you use it and needs to be binned. Not sure if that's what you meant about it getting sticky. Also I heard you can keep your nail polish in the fridge to make it last longer but I haven't tried that.

    This is so cool and inspiring!! Thank you for such an awesome video! I'm really bad at styling outfits but so much of this appeals to me- I like the customization of slow fashion and the diy aspect etc. You've really opened my eyes here- I didn't know other people did this kind of stuff in the alt community!

    Im so amazed by methodical you are with all the planning. I really want to make an overview of all my clothing items because I think it'll be so helpful but I keep putting it of since it'll be so much work especially since my wardrobe is split over two houses

    I think the confused outfit is my favorite 🤔 It really reminds me of a highschool boy in an anime with the blazer as the school uniform and the hoodie as the rebelion but make it shic I reallyyy like it! 😁

    Absolutely love how you modified the shirts and the blazer, especially! I have a black denim jacket with a collection of enamel pins and badges on it, but I've been too lazy to add anything else, lol. It's absolutely one of my wardrobe staples in cool weather, though. Congrats on 100k! You deserve it for your excellent content!

    this is so inspiring! I love all of the outfits but especially #4 with the purple blazer-- I love the hoodie + blazer look, with the t shirt. Also something really clicked for me when you said that it looks like a haul, but it represents over a year of cultivating a wardrobe. A haul literally gives me a hit of dopamine, but there's something so satisfying about taking my time and then reflecting on how much can happen in one year... with a wardrobe or with anything else in life 💗💜🖤

    I've been playing around with alternative fashion for about three years now (I'm fifteen) and seeing this really helped me get inspired to work on my wardrobe! It also helped me finally sort of realize what my aesthetic is, so thank you! All this time I've been confused because my aesthetic doesn't have a certain "Label" to it, but yours doesn't either, so in a weird way it helped me realize that I don't have to fit into any category to dress the way I want. All the DIY clothes are SOOO cute too! Thank you for this!
