Create Better Art - Get Loose With Your Acrylics

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

If you want to create better art or don’t know where to start, this might be your first step.
This week I’m getting loose with some acrylic paints while I start and finish two complete painted papers.
This is an amazing exercise if you’re in a creative rut or are hesitant to get started.
You only learn to create better, more authentic art when you allow yourself days like this to expand your creative language.
Join me for some fun!

⭐Best Viewing Experience for YOU ⭐
Every creative person has different needs. Here are the different ways to enjoy these videos.
- Some enjoy hearing me explain my process. If that’s you, make sure your volume is on.
- Others prefer to read my process through the closed caption subtitles. If that’s you, turn on the CC at the bottom right of the video.
- Some don’t want to hear my voice at all (that’s ok 😀). If that’s you, turn the volume off and watch.
I have had every video electronically translated through close captioned subtitles into 12 different languages to be able to reach and connect with as many people as possible. If your language is not represented, please let me know.
Note: at this time, I do not have the ability to have my emails translated. If you sign up for my mailing list, you will receive mail from me in English.

Love this! Forgetting that voice that once (actually several times!) told me that artists are junkies and starving (I wanted to be a fashion designer)... That I had to be better to do better than that. Even though I really was an artist all along... Now in my 50s I am letting go of that voice... Finding my own truth, my own voice and my own passion again! Maybe I could have done it earlier but I like to believe that everything happens when the time is right! This medical paper is a great idea! Wonder how it would behave in collage and on the gel plate! I always give/sell my stuff mentioning that it is not archival. I don't have the desire for anything to last forever - I obviously adjust my prices accordingly.

I have been doing a pet portrait for my daughter and was so fed up as it had to be quite precise and fiddly, then you came online. So portrait finished, newspaper out and with great abandon I started to put what was left on my palette any way I felt liked onto the newspaper and it was such a wonderful awakening experience. Great joy no thinking just do it.! I am sure some parts will be useful sometime. Thanks again x

Thank you, Andrea! I feel like I have a pretty heavy hand when I use brushes, that's why you'll usually see me start with some type of tool (brayer or catalyst wedge). This is really good information, and nice pivot Isis! Did the foil stick to the beet juice itself, or did you add an adhesive? @@PaintedPaperStudio I think somewhere between cute and masterpiece will work! I am just fortune to have close to masterpiece during my many years. I have received recognition on many occasions starting soon after I graduated from the University of Maryland. I stopped exhibiting and entering shows about 10 years ago after i received First Place/Blue Ribbon in a state wide exhibit for professional artists in NC and First Place and People's Choice in another show in NC. The work i did at that time was in oils and highly realist. Now i have returned to my true love...non representational. I go between pen/ink with colored pencil which is very structured and collage, gelli printing and mixed media. I can do the drawing while listening to audiobooks in the evening and the painting collage messy work in the studio during the day. This way i get both sides of my brain exercised! Thank goodness i have art in my life. Now i am extra fortunate to have found you on KZread. Life is good. 🎨

Love, love, love this loose painting session! The line work with the Posca pens really works for me. Off topic…I noticed the color cube behind you…I just got both of these cubes and haven’t used them yet. How do you use them? Do you have any videos where you used the color cube cards!

Hello Madame! It is a sheet of glassine paper (I just put it at the bottom of the supply list in the description). I just put paper towels underneath and my acrylics stay wet a lot longer. 🥰

How do you not get mud when using all those different colors?

  • @PaintedPaperStudio

Hi Dharla! The trick is to use super thin layers that dry fast. Also, if you keep the mixed colors on your palette clean (not muddy), they generally stay "clean" on the paper. 🥰

Please will you tell me the name of the tape you used. I am still having trouble finding the products n the description from time to time, user error no doubt.

Is the airbrush medium you were using similar to a poring medium⁉️

  • @PaintedPaperStudio

Hi Reni - great question! No, airbrush medium is really thin, almost like water. It's designed to make heavy body acrylics and fluid acrylics thinner so ithey can pass through the tip of an airbrush. The reason I love it is that it protects the strength of the pigment, and the integrity of the binders that hold it together. Hope that helps. 🥰
