Create A Dramatic Oil Painting Of A Steam Engine - Perfect For Beginners!

Learn how to create this dramatic oil painting of a steam engine. Follow along with this step-by-step tutorial for a dramatic and impressive result. It's easier than it looks
A steam engine's iconic looks and sounds are familiar to most of us. The landscape is depicted in dark, atmospheric tones, with the surrounding environment blurred to emphasize the steam engine's relentless advance. This painting is all about creating the mood and energy of a steam engine as it roars towards you with its lights glinting on the tracks.
Just standing on a railway platform as one of these giants waits to take us on a journey is an unforgettable experience. No wonder so many kids grew up wanting to drive a steam engine!
So lets start the process of creating our own dramatic oil painting of a steam engine together. It's actually far easier than you might expect!

Thanks for watching Annie - yes 'where did you get that hat, where did you get that hat' an old time music hall song very fitting for the subject. I feel a few more on this theme will be leaving the platform in the future. Have a lovely week what ever your painting - Paul 😃😍😎

I'm so glad you are doing these videos. I have followed along with you and, apart from Bob Ross you have given me the belief that wonders can happen on my canvas. Please keep doing what you do because there are so many people out there (Like me) that need people like you to encourage us to take their first steps into painting. Paul you are blessing to me and, I'm sure I speak for thousands of others.

Thank you for dropping by and leaving such a great message. Frustrated artists ( I include myself in that group ) just need a way to get going. Bob provided that link. Its my pleasure to carry on his work and to keep providing oppertunities for folk to get started. Its a wonderful journey so I'm pleased to be able to help - Paul 😃😎

Hi Paul. Beautiful video and stunning picture. The amazing light and shadow effect helps to make it look beautiful. Sorry I missed the premiere. School obligations, but that will soon be over. I enjoy watching your tutorials and they always remind me how wonderful it is to paint. Once again, the picture is stunning and the video is relaxing. Until next time, always and always, I wish you happy painting, a pleasant day and a relaxing week.

Beautiful picture, Paul. For many years my father was a diehard trainspotter and our family traveled extensively for his hobby. My dad is gone now but your painting brought a smile to my face. It is definitely in the spirit of what his photographs were trying to achieve.

That would be cool Billy - maybe a paddle steamer like the Mississippi Queen - bit fiddly but at night time you could just hint at the form and add a few lights - sounds like a project to me - Happy Painting week - Paul 😃😎

Many thanks Jack. I sometimes buy Pebeo if I see it on special offer. Luckily we have an independant stockist called Seawhite who supply the collages and students in West Sussex. Their branded paints are excellent and reasonably priced too. Thanks for the nice comments on the latest painting. It was blast to paint - pun intended - Paul 😃😎
