Always check the 'output' of a machine when buying one. lot of lasers are classed as a certain wattage but it's the input, so probably 5-10 watt output.

Your boxes remind me of Japanese boxes that were usually inlaid with pearl or oyster. Beautiful. I then looked up Romanian boxes and I see your nationality (Romanian) coming out in your incredible designs. They mean so much more now. My father's parents were Ukrainian and I remember designs like that from their dishes and artwork. Respect from your Friend in Florida USA 🌴 Cutiile tale îmi amintesc de cutiile japoneze care erau de obicei încrustate cu perle sau stridii. Frumoasa.

Note that a 40w laser may be fantastic for cutting but for etching (burning images) it may have low dynamic and thin ray making that a bit difficult (it is pobably brand dependent on how they control the multiple diods).

I was exactly where you are now. I bought the DW735X then three months later I bought a Rikon 10-326 14” Bandsaw and then 7 months later bought the xtool S1 40w. I am a believer of the “buy once, cry once” and can say from experience; it was hard and I was pretty broke for a while but I have no regrets. The capacity of these 3 machines is well beyond worth the wait, working and saving. You will love your laser after you buy one. I hope you do eventually pull the trigger on a nice one.

Great video again ms. Skyler. I find myself watching your videos from start to finish! I'm amazed how your shop is forming and the quality of tools you use. You must research a lot, wonder how much time you spend a day in the shop and online planning the next project? i saw the spaceage harvey in the corner that will help in the winter when planning . Also look like the 3m sander, does that work well with all the detail work of those boxs and inlays? Very inspiring like the idea since I.m getting ready to retire in a few yrs and aquired like you a lot of equipment over the years a nice shop. Leaning on doing some inlayed guitars , (inlaying would kick it up a notch). But since you don't work down the street to learn from I will start with guitar pic boxs first! Have you ever mentioned what software you work with fior designs? I have autocad I use a little for my day job but no cnc or lasers to apply and play with....yet! You making some vendors rich with your selling I imagine Ms Skyler. Thanks for sharing!

Imm, the trouble is a lot of non trades people are looking at this and thinking I can make this and sell this stuff and make some money. Then the market is flooded with all the same products that nobody wants to pay a lot of money for, how many boxes and inlay products are out there that nobody are buying ? So Computer operators out there you need to think before getting carried away with wow this is fantastic

Very true. The key is to use it as a tool together with your traditional woodworking skills to create something unique. Etsy is packed with 3mm plywood boxes and decorative stuff but to create something beautiful it takes a bit of skill and creativity. Lasers are just a tool just like Cnc, and dominos, it’s what you do with it that matters

I like your inlays in the box, I certainly must try. Do you use the exact same cut for the "hole" and the inlay or do you adjust for beam width? I have an optical 20W laser that and will certainly try myself. Also you need put the laser in an enclosure with an exhaust, otherwise you and your shop smells like smoked salmon.... and for health.. For the inlay I use an offset of 0.08 ( the kerf of my laser ). The hole, no offset. I have an enclosure and use it just not for filming so you guys have a better view

@@woodworkingwithSkyler Thanks for the reply the offset makes sense, I think it would be good mentioning the enclosure or even recommending one for the specific laser model as it is really required if you arent outdoors. And even have the laser goggles for show at some point.

I have never seen anyone come close to making handles like mine. But you came close. Check out my handles and see what you think...
