    Why do I feel like the average gambling budget seems low. Only see $25 tables and up. With people sitting with $500. Can believe that is almost all their money.

    We stayed at Hooters several times. We made a "farewell trip dedicated to a friend that went with us all the time. We walked up to the scrap table, and the pit boss asked us where our friend was. We told him he passed away. He walked up to the center of the table and said, " I just found out one of our favorite players has passed. We are pausing the game for a moment in his honor'". It was hard to hold back tears. I really missed those employees

    So to your last point. Im coming to Vegas early April from Canada, have done so for about 5 years now. I gamble a bit, last year I had a $200 envelope for each day (4 days). That usually is enough for comp rooms offer at one of MGM’s lower tier resorts. This year I will be getting 4 nights free (+dreaded resorts fee)at ParkMGM, if its like last year I will have a room overlooking the alley at the garbage bins lol. But I will take it cause I spend about 1 hour awake in that room. I do like the Park though, close to everything.

    TopGolf is a good start because it can be a vibe buzz tohelp wakeup that void between strat and down to slots of fun. To me since going to Vegas starting about 97 the corner across from the Bonanza Gift store down to Slots of Fun always been a quiet spot . Hopefully Im visioning and defining right. When Riveria closed and Westward Ho and other changes that really quieted that spot that was already slightly quiet, even when Sahara closed and reopened. So hopefully TopGolf will help spread some electric vibe buzz down help wakeup the Hilton Garden Club and help wakeup that dreary spot that for a long time needs some love. Wonder is it set way back in yonder ville like the one at MGM,or is that the meant perception to have set far away? Think Old Vegas and New Vegas need to become a fusion, I am a fusion person I embrace tradition yet dont mind modern, think time for Old Vegas and New Vegas need to fuse and hospitality/tourism will spark big time adding jobs and new needed light including adding in Bahrump

    Downtown visitors may be lower because of the cost of transportation being 5 times higher than it was preCovid. Nobody asked me if I was satisfied.. so who did they ask? People in upper income brackets outnumber average folks. So, yeah, they're not bothered by high prices. Of course, a higher percentage say they were satisfied.

  • @MACMAMI
    @MACMAMI3 ай бұрын

    I'm not surprised with the high satisfaction score. I've noticed that most KZread channels centered around Vegas are hosted by those whose first trip to Vegas was at least a decade ago.............and I mention that because those who have been around the block and know what's around the corner in Vegas for a good while now aren't always, but USUALLY, dismayed by the overall trendlines because they've witnessed firsthand when the dollar went even further pre-pandemic as well as being saddened by some of vintage Vegas riding off into the sunset...............and I'm not saying this applies to you two necessarily because I know you both also have an appreciation for some of modern Vegas and some other longtime visitors/content creators do as well..............but it DOES influence many's outlook and perspective...................and for some they kind of grow jaded and cynical in response to it, and others hear one's grumblings and nod affirmatively to that, and collectively that narrative/tone has a lot of resonance across social media. But I started visiting Vegas in 2017 so with me, admittedly...............I still feel the value is there in Vegas when you compare Vegas to other cosmopolitan cities in the United States and the world: whether it be Miami, Los Angeles, New York City, London, Tokyo, etc. I didn't visit Vegas pre-2017 so I can only fathom how much more you could stretch the dollar then, but even still I'm finding you can book a four or five-star experience in Vegas for substantially less than any of the cities I listed above the majority of the calendar year. And as a dopamine seeker, Vegas invigorates me and never gets old every time I visit still................so yeah: I can certainly acknowledge the unfortunate nickling and diming and automation and so forth...............but Vegas is still magical than me and I can say with a straight face I'm still more than satisfied visiting. But again that may just be because I've been visiting Vegas since 2017. It's all about perspective I suppose. 🙂

  • @Milestomemories

    @Milestomemories

    I think one way I stay positive is I have sort of disconnected the cost from my nostalgia. I love Old Vegas stuff but don’t think too much about the value vs. now. Plus as you said modern Vegas has a lot to offer and that comes at a cost. And also it is expensive everywhere. I suppose I worry less and less about the value these days but it is a concern for many so I get both sides. I just know I wouldn’t be happy if I was on camera every week complaining about how cheap it used to be. I might do it as a joke but I long ago accepted the current pricing reality. Makes things a lot funner. Thanks for the awesome comment!

  • @MACMAMI

    @MACMAMI

    3 ай бұрын

    @@Milestomemories And I certainly hope my comment didn't come across or feel dismissive or invalidating or anything like that to you, because that certainly wasn't my intent and I wholeheartedly agree we should make the most concerted effort to preserve the parts of vintage Vegas that still consistently draw foot traffic, preserve the history of vintage Vegas that ultimately stopping drawing foot traffic locally in some form, and ensure there's still something for everyone including the lengthiest of longtime visitors. 🙂 I just wanted to show my perspective as to why I think 87% reported leaving satisfied in the survey and why it really didn't surprise me. Some may think of me as naive, some may think of me as gullible and doesn't know any better and have no idea what I could have had pre-2017...........which is fine. 🙂 But when I've looked up rates for most any other cosmopolitan city or even some other major American cities that most probably wouldn't consider cosmopolitan yet like Phoenix or San Antonio...........it's harder to afford an all-around experience as you can in Vegas still, at least as of now. 🙂 But I do sympathize for sure for those who miss much of what they enjoyed in decades past and some of it should be preserved.

    @@MACMAMI I agree with you and I do remember 'old Vegas'. It wasn't all that great. The cheap buffets were crappy (everyone has their own standards but we never went to them as a family). The hotel rooms were also devoid of many amenities and dingy. Plus the smell of smoke because most were allowed to smoke in the rooms. The old resorts needed to be remodeled badly. I do miss the entertainers (they broke the mold) and people dressing up in a classy rather than trashy way, but that's life.

    I guess I'm an example of retirees cutting back. I went to Vegas often. Monthly, 2021, 2022 & 2023. Full comp, hosts, limos, suites, Wynn, Cosmo, etc. Now, I'm just not going. Some is burnout. But some is an illogical perspective. All the money I spent gambling in past was post tax. Now, to risk $5000 gambling, I have to withdraw $7000 from retirement accounts. Same math overall - but it feels like I used to pay taxes on earnings, now I'd pay taxes to gamble. And there's an emotional element to spending the money I saved. I'm lucky to be very comfortable, but there's a bit of "shame" to tap into retirement funds to gamble. Also, most people don't know... W2G winnings increase your Medicare premiums, even if you itemize and have 100% offsetting losses. It's like an extra caution for retirees to stay away.

    I think the questionnaire results are still skewed. The age of visitors are primarily 50 and under now. A whole generation of the older people are not coming at all, or not as often. More millennials have higher paying jobs than ever before, and while they are not as young as the 20 somethings, they are still young enough they do not remember the prices of years gone by. The shift seemed to come after Covid. If they don't remember how much the bang for your buck actually got you in Vegas, as little as 10-15 years ago, then sure they would answer everything was great, they pay the high room prices because they don't remember the $100 rooms, they don't remember no resort fees or $15 resort fees. They don't remember free parking. If the 50 and up generation were questioned at the equal number of younger people I think the numbers would be very different. That is why the inexpensive shows, the reasonable dinner prices, other entertainment, cheaper gaming tables and slot machines are all gone. Vegas is catering to the 25-50 y/o age now and that age demographic are not interested in what Vegas "used to offer". They don't mind paying $1000 for a concert ticket vs a $69.00 entertainment show. Shawn you asked when are they going to bring in more modern bands. The answer is simple. The Sphere only holds 17,000 people. Bands of today want so much money the Sphere just can't pay them the money they demand. That is why U2, Eagles, and older bands are taking those jobs. They are the greatest bands of their time but can no longer fill a bigger venue. I think older generation bands will continue to take the Sphere as a place to play. Millennials are 29-43 and that is exactly what you see walking on the strip now.

    Im glad to see they are putting money into the off strip resorts. I go more than i should and as comps get tougher im enjoying staying at these properties and just visiting the strip. South point, the orleans and even the nugget downtown offer a decent stay. I also would love a set of those signs they are amazing . cool if they could be made domestically lol. My take aways from the polls show how people are increasingly using casiono comps to book rooms. This should show the casinos how important it is to keep those coming. Lastly the number of visitors seeing live sports....these huge stadiums are going to be an afterthought with travelers always not a reason to make a special trip...just sayin

    WARNING, this is a grouchy old man rant... While I completely agree that Las Vegas offers a lot more than it used to, I'm just not interested in most of those new things. I don't care about celebrity chefs, headlining pop stars, or nightclubs. While I have nothing against people that DO like those things, I feel almost disenfranchised from the city. The prices on the strip are ridiculous. Even downtown, where I used to see as a refuge from velvet ropes and pointlessly expensive drinks is getting bad. As much as I'm glad that there has been investment and improvement down there, it's getting to the point where it's less appealing to me. (The Four Queens, Main Street Station, The Cal, and the ElCo are still there, so there's that. 😉)

    With the amount of people who go to Vegas each year - you’d think they’d be able to make drink prices cheaper - especially when you also have to add a tip on top. People keep saying it’s Vegas and it’s because it’s a tourist spot. But I’ve been to Tourist spot in the USA and around world and even in Australia and drink prices are no where near the prices on the Strip and at the concert/show and sport arenas. But u go one or two streets back and to a smaller venue it’s way cheaper. So if they can do it why can’t the venues on the Strip do it. Any places on the Strip that does a Happy Hour(s) the venue is packed and hard to get in

  • @Milestomemories
