This type of flex, as long as the person flexing don't put me down for being part of what they spent on, is not only acceptable but praiseworthy.

@@sallylemon5835 I’m guessing neither of us is close to being wealthy. If we were guests at the wedding the flex wouldn’t be directed at us, but at other rich families who were invited. As an attendee who couldn’t afford a wedding like that in 50 lifetimes, I’d probably just feel lucky to be there. To an attendee who’d have to liquidate most of their assets to throw a wedding like that, I imagine it’d be kinda devastating. Just a guess though, I can’t begin to fathom how people this wealthy think and operate. The kind of flex you described is just poor people flexing on other poor people in comparison to this kind of wealth.

They clearly don't want to share their wealth, though, otherwise they wouldn't be so rich. Yeah, nice that they were generous to their guests who were probably mostly from a similarly well-off background. But what about all the other people. You don't get as rich by paying people well or by giving back to your country. There's so much poverty in the world, hunger, humanitarian disasters, climate change; schools, hospitals and infrastructure that need to be build and maintained. Most people can't afford medicines and slave away in soul-sucking jobs despite automation. Meanwhile the super rich can fly people in from all over the world, build villages for their amusement, have fine dining and the best hotels. Where's the justice? Where's the outrage? No one needs this much money when most people in debt - or just one accident away from being in debt!

  • @davidmarvy6788

But they become rich by taking advantage of people. If you're a business owner and pay ur employees anything under 10k a month you're a scumbag slave driver. A man can't provide for a wife and 2 kids on 50k a year, but employers will pay u 50k and expect u to be happy and work hard. 10k a month after taxes u can live in the suburbs and provide for a family. Kids can play sports/dance, 2 family cars, 1 vacation a year and 2k a month to save for emergencies. That's it, no Bentleys or Ferrari. No mansions or first class flights. 10k a month after taxes is a middle class lifestyle. U could do this with 5k a month in the 90s.

@@callidoraagape39 well I guess we just have different definitions of beautiful. What’s beautiful about a wedding is the love between the couple, not how much you spend on decoration or whatever. I’m just saying their wealth is built on the suffering of millions. Of course you should be allowed to splurge for your wedding, but maybe just maybe you could cut down on some costs(like maybe let the guests ride in normal taxis instead of rolls Royce) and give some back to charity. Of course it’s their freedom to choose how to waste their money, but it’s my freedom to not think it’s beautiful and write about how this wedding is terribly ugly if you look at it in a bigger perspective.

It's a saying when someone is surprised by something they observe. They're surprised because of the fact that normally the weddings they see - that are expensive , lack good decor. Hence the term pretty nice, because it is actually nice. English like other languages, you have to sometimes read between the lines. I'm not sure if you're a native speaker, or maybe haven't heard that phrase that's why I put this explanation here. ☺️ I myself wouldn't be surprised if this family comes from old money, since new money tends to be more gaudy. @@Tristen-fk8bz

I also have crazy rich asian friends who got married last year and they did the same thing. The only difference was i booked my own tickets, but when i was about to gave the red pockets, they gave me one instead since they're felt touched that i fly over to their wedding and gave me money for return flight. And since we're best friends when we're in highschool, they told me to wait until the other guests left and omg they gave me a special gifts that probably cost a thousand bucks when they didn't even gave that to their relatives. And the list of the guests, gurlll, i felt like a homeless person the entire time. Those chinese and taiwanese business executives and there i was, not even had an east asian look, a uni student, yet they treated me like i that. I'm so lucky to have them as my best friend, not because their money, but they appreciate me as their best friend too. Like i thought, how many crazy rich asians who like to keep their own money, but my best friends know no boundaries ❤
