I could read your very nice power adapter model number: LGY-002. Its specs: 72W, 3V ~ 24VDC Variable, 3A Max. Switching AC/DC Adapter 100V-240V with LED Voltage Display, 14 barrel connector adapters. I now have one on order.

That thing is really good. I use it all the time. Also comes with a small adapter cable to switch polarity.

@@WxAxNxDxExRxExR Try one of these: de.aliexpress.com/item/1005005649203932.html - mine were to weak for the spectrum. These 4A should work. Make sure to connect minus to plus and plus to minus on the out voltage to switch the polarity.

An issue 2 Speccy would need some current, around 900mA (peek) on the power jack and since you were using 5V to get 9V, taking the circuit losses into account, that's almost a 2x boost, which would need something close to 2 amps on the 5V feed into the boost converter. No USB phone charger will give you that kind of a current without a fast charge protocol negotiation. The sound you heard was the internal charge pump circuit of the Spectrum (for 12V and -5V lines) trying to pump, but failing :-) I'll see myself out now...

Reminds me of last week when a friend of mine and I (the other friend of this threesome died 3 weeks ago) went to play pool. And some millenials were playing next to us and we got to chat. And he said he was in IT. And my friend and I were like: “ughh IT people, dreadful people! So lame, so stupid etc”. Me “autistic” 😂 The guy started laughing: “I get it because he doesn’t understand the sarcasm of IT people being annoying 😂😂😂” We really hit it off with those youngsters. At a certain point they ask our age so I say almost 51 and my mate 53. And they are like: “damn your as old as my dad! But at least you still have hair”. I said: “you make the assumption that it’s real. It’s actually a wig made from his wife’s (also there) pubes”. So my friend is like: “how do you know what the colour of my wife’s pubes are???” -“well buddy, your wife and I already know each other since primary school so about 15 years longer than we know each other!” “Did she already have pubes when she was 8? Uggghhh! I knew she was a freak”. 😂 Those kids were laughing saying: “you guys are funnier than our dads.” I turn serious: “well that’s because we don’t have to raise you and set a good example to aspire to. But trust us your dads have some great lame humor too.” Omg 😱 talking about lame jokes and here is my lame cable colour joke 😂😂😂Thanks for the shout out 😂 Just because we are old doesn’t mean we are boring sour grapes 😂

Just checked Mouser and Digikey - NO 40 pin DIP Z80s in stock. Octopart didn't find any either. I wonder if that was the case before the end of production announcement or if someone(s) bought up all of the remaining inventory after the announcement.

It's ok. A bit slow maybe. I was used to using a non automatic one. That just worked instantly. And I had moments, when it just wouldn't beep even though it should. That sucks.
