Thanks so much, moose! (Love the handle there) Rick actually keeps a journal of all the encounters and the moose counts. Both in AK and in New England. It's rather mind blowing! We appreciate that you found us here (no hunting vids, all animals are wild and free and left fully intact when we hike out) 🙂 and thank you for the comment!

Thanks, Susan. It's incredible watching them and learning from them. We never take it for granted, and have nothing but respect for these animals!
The moose is my favorite animal and I found out a long time ago when I was in my first hunting party that I did not have what it takes to shoot one. I had several chances but just could not bring myself to pull the trigger. We live in excellent wild country here and the moose are abundant. I still go on the hunt but now I am the official Bull Cook and keep the camp clean and I do make some awesome meals as I am a excellent cook. My friends did not ridicule me and they understood :) I am also an acomplished guitar player and entertain them at night with songs and of course a few beers lol

Well that's a beautiful story, woody. Thank you for sharing. We appreciate where you stand with it and that your hunting buddies don't shame you for it. Your making yourself useful at camp, and being the evening entertainment as well as your personality obviously, go a lot farther than taking down an animal. We have a couple of friends who used to moose hunt but once they got into photography they were looking more into the animal's eyes and realized there was no way they could ever hunt again. On another note: we don't call the moose in, so their behavior is less aggressive toward us. Thanks for taking the time to watch, subscribe, and write this!
Those male moose sure do play hard to get. They've got those females in a real state! What curious critters.

Thank YOU for the kind comment!! What I think happens is that the antlers, despite growing so fast it's the fastest growing tissue of any mammal on the planet, they still have time to get used to the extra weight. And it's why their necks are as short and bulked with muscle as they are. But you just know that when they shed them in the winter? that' it's a load off! Again, Thank you!🙏
So cool!

@@MooseManNaturePhotos we have a lore in our little deer community, where everybody thinks Moose is an opposite, opponent to Deer; It was invented by me years ago, and i said at start, like it's just a fiction, every creature is beautiful; Since it was supposed to be friendly comfortable community (and it is!), we needed a word to replace bad words that are describing some bad people, so we used Moose term for this, as 'opposite' to Deer 😀 It's been ages like this, and then i randomly found your channel, which reminds us how amazing Moose are! 🙂 Very good videos, thank you p.s. Am hooked on these videos. Everything about these stately animals fascinates me... But, most of all, I want to know why they waggle their heads, boggle their eyes... Then, in a heartbeat it's BATTLE ON!! And...do the bulls have any contact with the cows and the baby/s after the act...? Would a bull intervene to protect any cow being menaced by a predator? I have learned from your videos that they are solitary but do they have ANY 'finer feelings...'? What's their favourite food? What's their worst enemy...? Are they protected where you film your videos? Is there an annual cull on numbers, or are they allowed to do their thing?
@MooseManNaturePhotos
3 жыл бұрын
Wow how on earth did I miss this comment? Sorry about that! Let me make amends here. Firstly, no, the bulls are not chivalrous; it's every beast for him/herself. Leave them for bait, in other words. Ha. They do that head wag thing to intimidate their opponent, ditto the wild/crazy eyes. The head wag thing also shows off their armament as if to impress. They only do it do other bulls. Bulls have nothing to do with the cows or calves after the rut. Their favorite food is whatever their bodies are calling for at the time; from alder leaves and grass or fireweed to twigs. They do like apples and apparently pumpkins. The moose in Maine love the broccoli grown there. Worst enemy would have to be the bears. Coyotes and wolves and man also. Where we film them there is hunting but not wide scale and not during the rut, so that does make for a culling of sorts. Thanks for the insightful questions!
