    Not a recording technique but still a cool trick. You can Frequency Shift and EQ Match your auxilary snare/kick sample so they blend better with the live drums!

    I taped a piezo to the wall of my drum room, for huge room sound. I was able to crush it to bits because there was really good cymbal rejection.

    well .. dirt mic.. take a cheap dynamic and point it into a wall or corner.. 2-3m from the kit... or 1 cm above the floor pointing down. And then put a distressor on it at full Monty. The Wurst mic I use ALWAYS.

    I love the Droom concept! I often put room mics behind walls, gobo’s, or doors which eliminates lots of cymbals and you can get a huge drum sound, However… you do have to deal with the flamming which can be a pain to get right. This seems like same result but 100 times easier. Can’t wait to try it. Mind blowing end of this video with Moses’ sound design ideas! This Information Age is truly inspiring with access to people like Warren and Moses Schneider’s brilliant minds!

    One of my favourite videos so far from PLAP. Would love a further deep dive on Moses' editing techniques, perhaps as they get closer to the release of the pack? His drum ideas aren't too far from my own, but I got most of those tips from phone conversations with Glyn Johns 30 years ago, when I was but a young lad (who'd managed to crib his number from New Model Army's 'Slade The Leveller'). The best piece of advice: 'keep a tape measure handy'.

    Have Moses and Trent Reznor ever worked together bc these drum sounds give me some NIN feelings in the best possible way. It’s far from imitation. It is shared aesthetic. Of course hip hop rules the world with these sample pack/beat packs but I’m hearing industrial glory mixed with some of the great aggrotech vibes of Germany. Loving the European focus lately. It turns out Europeans have a culture and have contributed to the great works of human art after all.

    Very inspiring stuff!!..........I've always wanted to try a room mic that was close to the kit, but facing the opposite direction. I'm going to try it with my old SM7. I'm prepping to do a drum session next month for the first time in 5yrs!.....and I'm needing some inspiration.........VOILA' !! 😊🙏

    I'm a huge fan of Moses and applying his wurst micing technique on every drum's rec. I've some questions for him : - Aren't 441 mics are supercardioids and not hypercardioids ? As i plan to use my telefunken M81 (supercardioids) for Drooms ;-) - And aren't NT5 are cardioids or do you use NT-45 O omni capsule on its ? Can't wait my next drum rec session to try your wunderbar creative techniques 🙂 Danke sehr !!!

    I prefer a single mono overhead mic, usually my modified Rode Nt2 in omni and I hit it with few compressors, none of which are compressing very heavily. I also avaoid SM 57s on snares... nothing wrong with them I just have others I prefer like my vintage AKG D190 E... get it real close to the shell.

    One question: Moses says he ended up with the omni polar pattern for the SnareO, but then he uses the RODE NT5 Mics, which are cardioid - or can you switch polar patterns on those? Best regards and Moses rulez! 🙂

    I allways use my old Grundig Microphone from the 70th with this short 5 food cable and a din Stecker....but man...this sounds incredible....i just lay it somewhere on the floor,no matter where,and get allways perfect recordings with just one mike.....but one fine day i will try out the wurst position,but i'm parttime vegetarian,so i have to be careful....you know...

    @@markusreuter How does that relate to the microphone placement and the term "wurst"?

  • @markusreuter

    @markusreuter

    4 ай бұрын

    @@austinbridge He used the word "dome" ("sphere" may be a better term here) to refer to the capturing of the drum kit as a whole. And then he says the "wurst" is outside of that "sphere". BTW, the term "wurst" comes from the German word "verwursten", which means "to mangle".
